Edge : PS4 is 50 percent faster

lol i saw this on cvg and thought it sounded fishy with unnamed sources
I agree with the quality of videogame journlisim has gone down the pan and it just seems to get worse every gen. just enjoy the console for what it is.

You really can't go by launch titles since they will all look like crap by year 2 or less. Most of them are ported current gen titles. The only title I know you could actually compare is NBA Live 14 since that's the only multiplat title that is made only for next gen and isn't a port.

I've come to the decision that I will no longer indulge in these versus and which is more powerful threads mates. I'm leaving it up to Sony and Microsoft to show me the games. Until both consoles are released the mud slinging will continue and worse, these supposed journalist sites have gotten in on the action too making it hard to trust even their opinions. The games should speak for themselves, and about the hardware as it's always been. However, I do remain convinced that Sony is still talking a load of s*** on the power front. Since this whole thing began it's all we've been hearing and I hope for their sake it turns out to be somewhat true. Gamers are a MUCH MORE informed lot now than they ever were, so next gen there will be little to no excuses. The only one's still falling for the paper specs are the easily entertained. The way I figure it, my eyes can see just fine and I trust them far more than these once decent journalists turned click hoochies. f*** sakes.

Ultimately, I'm making my own call from here: X1 and Ps4 will be a wash with features taking the majority of the spotlight next gen. :bang:

So 50% faster means if the x1 is churing frames out at 30fps using every ounce of its gpu, then the very fastest a PS4 can render the same scene is at 45fps.

So it is not like one console the games are going to be 30fps, and the other console the games will be 60fps.

It will be more like... most people will have to go to a vs website that notes the actual differences.

Was hoping it wouldn't be as bad as that but I've just come to accept it now and enjoy the X1 for what it is. If the games start to look noticeably better on PS4 in the future(because they don't at the minute imo) I will pick a PS4 up too. I'm perfectly happy to trade a few frames a second for a superior online with dedicated servers and my preferred pad though for the time being. From what I've seen from Forza and Ryse though I'm sure I'll be happy enough. Saying that, if there is a big difference between BF4 on both consoles then I may have to reconsider.

You ppl need to stop with the neogaf is anti MS and pro Sony crap. I've been banned twice for saying something about both Sony and MS. Some of you are so bias that you want see the site as pro Sony and want to think MS can do know wrong. MS made some dumb mistakes and they'll have to take that beating for a while just like Sony did with the release of the PS3.

New here, hello to all. I was reading the comments for some time in the old forum, I think all the "powerful" talk and comments between the systems are speculative ( in some parts ). We don't have all the info in hand, neither we have any system in hand. I like all the technical aspects and opinions but I also really hate fanboy comments without any proof or logical explanation. As an IT, PC and console gaming guy, I look forward to informative comments in this forum. Thanks.

If the X1 can produce the visual quality of Ryse then I am satisfied. Don't care what the ps4 does.

But, but, but why dey don't use the ESRAM?

This analysis is based on the various fiddly bits in the GPU. It doesn't take into the account the faster CPU, memory, and all the specialized sub processors in the X1.

I stopped reading Edge after the "This is the winner of the Next Gen Wars" issue. I don't even give them a click.

Unnamed sources have said your comment is worthless.

Your comment has just been confirmed as worthless.

Everything those sources said sounded like it came from previous statements on GAF. I don't mean to cry foul, but I'll believe such statements more when there are actual developers making them, with names attached. Maybe that's not possible yet, but once the systems are out, it will be, and we'll see.

I still believe that this "50%" nonsense is spec-sheet whoring, and not attributable to any actual, perceivable visual performance. We'll see. Maybe I'm just telling myself what I want to hear. But this is the third generation where this crap has happened, and you start to see patterns.

I think I read something that the framerate issues in DR3 were resolved and they were at 30fps now, but can't remember where I read it (somewhere on the old forum most likely).

This is the fourth time I've posted these screens of Dead Rising 3:

Definitely something wrong with those pics. I don't know whether they decreased the resolution or what, but they look MUCH worse, IMO.

That's waaaaaay worse than I though it would be. I figured it was just the tflop difference, but all this other stuff is just ridiculous. I guess Astro had me in an information fog.

By platform agnostic build they mean one where they haven't coded anything to leverage X1's hardware at all. That literally is a meaningless statement. If you aren't using the eSRAM at all you'd actually presume the difference would be WAY more than just 5-10 fps as you'd expect the game to be severely bandwidth-limited. If you aren't using the display planes a tall, you'd likewise expect the resolution to be much more severely constrained than that anonymous report claims.

EDGE has gone pretty far out on the PS4's limb already, so at this point their "reporting" is competing against reality and their own agenda to not look like complete idiots.

EDGE just published this article... it's the devs that are saying ps4 is more powerful.. almost every week some dev will say ps4 is the more powerful system, as an Xbox fan since the launch of original xbox it sux for me to say that ps4 is more powerful, fu*k all we can do about it really.. MS made their hardware choice.

Another recycled article to keep fanning the flames. I find this getting rather boring. The games are looking great on X1 and I will also be enjoying all of the other extras it will have to offer.

Hey OP'er would have said the article was "inflammatory" if it had of claimed the X1 was more powerful ?

It seems pretty clear now, you can see the PS4's advantages in the design doc's and from the people making the games. The only people desperately clinging to unreality are those trying to sell the X1 and those that are too emotionally attached to the brand to see things logically.

Ugh, IGN is posting this article as well. Keep fanning the flames, boys. Anyways, hopefully all this talk will cause MS to be a little more upfront about specs, sooner. That being said, I really have no problem with this:

I wish people would read.

His issue was never with the supposed power of PS4. It is with the article itself and how it makes such bold claims with unknown sources stated.

I think most realize the PS4 is more powerful. That isn't the issue.

Since when has using 'unnamed sources' in journalism been a problem ? I thought it was the standard for those that do not wish to be identified and face possible repercussions of talking publicly.

Logically the PS4 games would already look miles above the X1 games, that's currently not the case. There is a power difference, but fanboys have made it larger than it is, and most of the 'devs' saying this are either anonymous, or indies with a Sony past. When people like John Carmack say that multiplat's will be pretty much on parity it means that they will be on parity. His opinion trumps fanboys and anonymous devs.

an unknown source is no source at all. I could make up an article, claim to have sources and get it posted. Doesn't make any of it true.
