F#@k the poor!

Interesting approach. "f*** the poor" does get you thinking about how you'd react to that. I agree with the feedback he got.

It is an interesting approach. Then again it's not entirely genuine either. I could have easily been one of those lads walking by the "Help the Poor" sign yet I give generous amounts to charities that share my philosophical views including but not limited to "the poor". Not everyone chips into every upturned hand for reasons as mine, who hasn't been about with no spare change in their pockets, or maybe had unloaded their change to someone else a block ahead of this fellow.

Pretty stupid. Are people really expected to just give money to this random dude that has a sign that says help the poor?
I mean, if the attempt was to show that people "say" they want to help the poor, but don't really do so....this is a poor way of going about it.

He didn't just have the sign. He had pamphlets and handouts about Pilion Trust.

People don't realize that the government gives to the poor all the time..... through the taxes we pay. So we actually all contribute. We just don't see it.

The more taxes you pay, the more you pay towards government services and charities.

The difference is that many government social programs are not cash based, but instead offer services. While giving money to a panhandler is money directly in their pocket to spend.

"The poor you will have with you, always." It's the hallmark of "civilization".
Is there is a way to get rid of the segregation of classes and income brackets. It's called communism.

No matter what job you do, everyone gets pretty much the same pay (give or take a bit). So whether you are a doctor or admin clerk sorting mail, everyone can be one big happy family knowing everyone takes home a similar pay cheque.

That would be grand.

In civilization, as opposed to hunter/gatherers and self sufficient agrarian societies, you will always have the poor, because it is only there that they can survive.

Somebody has got to be poor. If everyone were rich all the prices would go up and then the lowest of the rich would become poor.

I think that is stupid. A doctor or Surgeon or somebody has to do like 10 years of school and 5 years working on the job..etc. A mail sorter just needs eyes and half a brain cell, no special training, no real effort, no dedication. If you take away the reward for dedication and hard work, then we will be worse off as a collective civilization.

That's why capitalism promotes innovation, wealth, and believe it or not freedoms.

I believe you here. If everyone is getting the same pay though as he said, why would some people work harder (when other wise they may not) just to end up with the same pay. I do think having the same pay in some ways is really ok, but people can't handle that in today's society. Doctors, emgergency workers have to be on call, work extreme over time and it can be really rough. Some of them want to do it, some are obviously just in it for the money and that money also helps them to do their work well. They will have a fear of messing up, getting sued and losing that life style. There are many kinds of people though, but some do fit that.

I agree. There's no way everyone should be paid the same.

With all this talk of inequality and poverty its quite a shame people seem to forget the fact that government is the single most creator of poverty.

We really already had this discussion in another thread but yeah. I'll always feel bad for the poor people who have hit rock bottom due to circumstances out of their control. Lazy people who are poor because they do drugs or whatever and don't want to help themselves? Forget about those people.

While I agree not all jobs are equal and not everyone deserves to be paid equally I do think that income inequality has gotten way out of hand. CEO's who don't even own the company they are working at making tens of millions (sometimes hundreds of millions) yet they have employees who work full time and can't afford to pay for rent and food, that's a shame. A Doctor should make a lot more than a cashier but someone working full time shouldn't make so little that they need help from the government to cover basic expenses yet we see that happening far too often.

A doctor or surgeon should be making more than a McDonalds employee but someone who works 40 hours a week and does manual labor shouldn't be making 1/10th of what a doctor or surgeon makes and they sure as hell shouldn't be making far less than someone who sits on their ass in an office every day. Come on now. Nobody is asking the rich to litter the streets with their money or for everyone to be making the same pay. A little parity would help though.

True story a friend of mine last week goes to this gas station often where he lives outside Houston (forgot the city name) and he sees this guy a lot outside the station that is homeless. So one day he decided to buy him a meal from a BK nearby and give it to him. The homeless guy said he was not hungry threw the meal in the trash and instead asked for a $1.

I'm not familiar with statistics, but is income inequality just as much of an issue in the rest of the world as it is in the US? I would imagine greed to be pretty universal, but it seems like things are going from bad to worse these days.

It likely is although to varying degrees, then again in many other parts of the world they have higher minimum wages than we have and universal healthcare and college is even taken care of in many places. Those are all expenses the middle and lower classes here have to take care of on their own.

And that is why true communism will never work.

That meal was much more than $1.
