I’m making a thread for this because this comes from OXM....Might as well be an official confirmation:

What is Fable? What makes a Fable game? What's unique about that franchise? I honestly don't know as I've never played any of them.

Well, off the top of my head, here is what distinguishes it, to me:

- the humor (sort of adolescent and a little bawdy, in a tame way); it is often silly
- the art style, which is sort of a mix of cartoonish and magical
- the ease and accessibility of the game; it is meant to be an RPG that is playable by nearly anyone; it is an easy game
- the lighthearted tone; things rarely feel tense and serious, even when demons are attacking

I'm probably forgetting something, but that's what comes to mind.

Oh, and kicking chickens.

I hope this is true. I love the series and still own all three (they’re BC).

Really fun, light hearted, a nice charm, world that felt alive, games.

Good read. Though I don't know why Phil would close the Fable studio, and then two years later buy a studio to make Fable. They already had the heart and soul of Fable.

Fable is ultimately about heroes..it would be nice to have the franchise develop heroes this time around the protagonist that actually makes us feel like they are genuine heroes. Most were already established. I want to play the next Fable after the upcoming one and say: "That's (insert hero name) and he / she's a badass!"

Lack of faith in the team?

Microsoft wouldn't put out the money then and now they will?

Reports said they tried to save legends before cancelling it as they couldn't remove the p2p system

Lionhead was a mess. Not sure how much of that was MS meddling and how much of it was Molynuts incompetence. But it was a mess. Playground is more competent, in better shape, and a better purchase.

As a player who played legends before, I can tell you the last update was amazing and it was getting better.

I'm sure there is blame to go around. But judging by what's happened with the studio Molenuex formed after Lionhead, I think it's fair that a whole lot of it falls on him.

Guys a twat and abused the higher positron he got at MS Europe.
Stealing Rares ideas and putting them into the fable games(poorly) and cancelling said rare titles.

I would want a new fable ala the style of gaudians of the galaxy or Thor ragnarok, kinda dark and mature yet colourful and cheeky.

Fable is by far my favorite MS IP that they actually stuck with (RIP Crimson Skies and Mech Assault) and I'd love a new one, as long as they can find a way to keep the humor and charm I'm all for it. It'd be great if they could open the world up more and make the gameplay more fun, I'm not saying the gameplay was bad before but it usually felt pretty stiff. I also hope they continue to allow us to be able to shape the character how we want vs what they did with Legends which was make it a generic fantasy class based game. That's one of the many things I loved about fable is you could use magic and be a warrior, too many fantasy games make you choose between them.

I think playing as the heroes was completely awesome. The feel of the gameplay was perfect, graphics & art & animation were amazing, everything was just going well... my only complaint though was playing as the Villian; didn't care for it. It was a complete chore, and honestly felt like they didn't put a lot of effort into it which is a huge problem when you make that the entire basis of your game.

They should've made the game a Diablo-esque dungeon crawler which nutty endgame gear and such. Whoever was creative lead should've seen that a mile out and corrected course.

Shame really.

I kinda feel it shouldn’t have been called Fable....even if some of the previous games kinda soured the name.

It can be called fable because that is the Universe that is from. The villain part was a joke and should of never went their.

That's on Microsoft at the end of the day. Lack of leadership all around. You have the money to get things done, bring in the right people, etc, but you refuse to. Instead close studios and cancel games, wash your hands of any wrong doing. People see through that.

Glad they're on the right track now. Fable is one of my favorite Xbox IPs and i'm looking forward to what a competent dev like Playground does with it. Lionhead wasn't beyond saving though. They just got the short end of the stick.

Well, it's true that Lionhead was a solid company when they were originally acquired. They didn't start to go down the toilet until MS owned them for a long time, then started directing them to do projects they didn't care for and they weren't particularly good at. So I agree that the majority of the blame would go to MS.

I'm going to take the scenic route and blame it on Sony... because they sent Phil Harrison to sabotage MS's Europe efforts.

I remember really liking the Berserk game on Dreamcast. Kind of a surprising twist if they dumped Fable for this IP.

But it is not. You can see Guts in top picture. The Flag of the Army in last picture. Unless they were just showing MS how they would handle and make a more mature Fable IV... That is definitely THE GOLDEN AGE ARC Doldrey.jpg goldenarcII.jpg

Man..the whole Casca thing traumatized me from ever watching / reading anything Berserk past the first series.

I'm waiting for Fable 4. On the other hand..it would be pretty badass to see a new Beserk game from PG.

But Yeah, I agree. Maybe it's just a showpiece as a fan to set the tone for work on Fable 4.
