Far Cry New Dawn

  • $40
  • Hope County, 17 years after the bombs drop
  • Some returning characters (e.g., Hurk), most not ... RIP Boomer :(
  • Your dog can ride in your vehicle now
  • Build new weapons from parts you scavenge
  • Most of the game takes place in Hope County, but expeditions take you to the Grand Canyon and other locales

I was super disappointed in Far Cry 5, so a re-skinned post-apocalyptic Hope County just doesn’t do it for me.

I wasn't disappointed with the game as much as I was annoyed with the constant abductions and planes attacking me every few minutes later in the game.

The abduction sequences are clearly the most detested element from FC5. I think based on a few things we know, like dogs riding in vehicles & takedowns involving knives being back, they're clearly addressing some of the obvious complaints from FC5, so my bet would be the abductions are out as well. In general I enjoy the FC games, and even though they seem to be pumping this one out quick (less than a year after 5) I'll still probably pick it up, even if it does seem very similar to RAGE2 which releases in May and will probably also be purchased....

The abductions was a strange choice lol
It was hilarious the second time it happened and by the 4th time I honestly didn't know what to think, someone played it and greenlit it? Lol
They could've just made missions where they made you go somewhere and mid mission be captured or something, would've at least hid the repetition a bit.
Also, they have the ability to take the dog in the car as a premium new gameplay thing? Lol

I love Farcry and it is definitely on my "someday" list to buy. It is just getting squeezed out with too many games right now but I'm sure I'll get it eventually. Definitely will look forward to some impressions.

I'm going to pass on this one. I've watched some reviews, and it doesn't look like it brings enough new to the table. I've been through the Far Cry formula 4 times now, and I think I'm tired of it. Maybe if they would have set the game in a different location, but there's just too much repetition here. Something Ubisoft seems prone to.

Yeah the purchase was easy for me because I’d just redeemed a bunch of bing points and so got it for free. Planning to do the same with Rage 2.

Imma wait for Rage 2 which looks miles more interesting to me.

Same, and I was a huge FC fan, but I didn't like many of the things they did with this iteration and am just holding out hope that things like tiered weapons & enemies do not become series staples. I'm fine skipping this one, FC5 came out less than a year ago and honestly there are almost too many games to keep up with on the horizon as it is, so maybe I check this out a few months down the road when it's like $10...

this is will be discount purchase for me down the line sometime.

I wouldn’t have minded the abductions so much if it made more sense, being captured 100’s of feet in the air in a plane/chopper Houdini style is fooling ridiculous. At the least make it an ambush during a ground mission, of land vehicle encounter, and have some sort of “last stand” against “endless” waves of guys or something.

I’m thoroughly burnt on the FC series at this point. They’re all too similar now, and they need to fix the god awful tethering in co-op.

I played through about 70% of far cry 4 and less of primal (even though I did like them both) but got burned out too. I did play through all of 5 and felt I could've played more, they made the collectibles and side missions better and didn't bloat it as much which made it much more enjoyable. From what I understand this one is even shorter so I feel confident I'll finish it.
Environments look cool as hell imo.

Played for a few hours, here’s some takeaways:

Positives -

- Fun scavanging gameplay loop. Collecting is much more important now
- The scavaging fits very well with post apocalyptic setting.
- Map and graphics look fantastic
- The knife is back, loving the takedowns
- The dog companion now rides in the vehicle!! I really like that
- Gameplay is still as solid as ever
- The guns look cool and are fun to use. Decent amount of them too

Negatives

- That Far Cry familiar feeling is definitely there
- So far the health bars seem like they don’t impact gameplay a ton. Enemies just take more punishment now, but that hasn’t changed gameplay much for me
- There seems like there will be some grinding to unlock base upgrades

Overall I’d say this is worth it for those who want more Far Cry 5. The core gameplay and mission structure is very similar, and that actually surprised me. I thought with the setting and rpg elements it would feel more different. If you didn’t like or were burned out on Far Cry 5 probably gonna want to wait for a sale.

I’d rank this as better than Primal but Blood Dragon remains the gold standard of Far Cry spin offs.

More hyped for this than rage 2.

Any particular reason? I think Rage 2 looks leaps & bounds more entertaining, but that could be because of some of my own personal preferences...

I don't know.... rage looks...choppy (?) control wise, like a fallout game but in this case you the gun play actually needs to work. I definitely could be wrong since I haven't played it though. Also can't really feel the art style, it looks noisy and like it's trying too hard. I'm not saying it will be bad, but I'm just not feeling it.
This game looks like pure fun though, and this series gun play is great.

Hmmm, I'm curious what video is giving you the clunky vibes, because from what I've seen & read, they're saying the gunplay is fast and responsive, like DOOM, but in an open world....

Yeah...I could be wrong, maybe I am, I'll certainly give it a try when opportunity arise.

Just a check in after several more hours to confirm that if you love Far Cry you will love this too. Man it sinks it’s teeth into you and gives you plenty to keep busy, and most importantly it’s all FUN to do. Also dang this game is gorgeous

Are the Seeds referenced in New Dawn?
