Far Cry New Dawn (Feb. 15)

Another observation to share, the random enemy encounters in the game seem tuned down and more balanced, which is great. A lot of complaints about FC5 addressed in this game.

Going to leave a cryptic post here as well, the game just went a place I wasn’t expecting in terms of gameplay. Not sure if it was supposed to be a surprise or I just missed it but it’s a great addition that I was not expecting. I leave it in spoiler tags for those that want to know what I’m referencing.

In a possible nod to Far Cry instincts the game gives you the ability to super jump and initiate a sort of berserk mode or whatever it’s called where you can punch dudes and send them flying for a short time. Very cool!

Are the Seeds referenced in New Dawn?

Oh yes.

Ok finally finished the main story, so here’s my final thoughts. Game definitely gets extra points for being perfectly priced.

Graphics and Sound 9.5/10
The game looks gorgeous, especially in the new setting. I really loved the whole superbloom version of the apocalypse, it’s unique and just looks amazing on the X1X. Guns seem to have been given a bit more oomph

Gameplay 10/10
It’s my opinion that Far Cry is the gold standard of open world FPS games in terms of gameplay and there is no real competition. This game didn’t change that opinion.

Story 8/10
The twins and characters are well written, but like other Far Cry’s the villains disappear for a chunk of the game. The story is also padded a bit by the need to upgrade your base, but that felt a lot less grindy than I was expecting

Longevity 8.5/10
Expect around 12-15 hours of gameplay for the main storyline and another 5-10 hours to do everything. Perfect $40 game IMO.

Overall 9/10
Perfect mini-sequel for Far Cry 5 fans. Same great gameplay with a cool map/setting, good story with some great humor and Easter eggs mixed in, and a decent amount of gameplay for the price.

Side note for those who weren’t fans of Far Cry 5, if you were just burned out by Far Cry this game will not change your mind. However if you just don’t like how big the game was or had some issues with some design decisions, this may be worth checking out since it’s a more condensed Far Cry and they addressed most of the complaints about FC5 like less enemy encounters, knife takedowns (which are awesome), dog companion rides in vehicles, etc

Pretty positive impressions, makes it sound like a pretty decent package but I just don't see myself enjoying it as much with the restrictive weapon crafting and tiered, bullet sponge enemies...

Yeah the weapon crafting is a bummer but I rarely ran into an issue with the tiered enemies. The only time I can think of is when I leveled up an outpost past my own level.
