"There's a couple of very key things. The first is animation - if you look at where we are with Xbox 360, we're obviously very proud of the game we've made, it's another great game this year, but we're starting to hit the limit of memory, which means that we can't easily add lots of new animations.

"So what we're able to do is add hundreds and hundreds of new animations within the game," he continued. "Which firstly add nice variety, which is cool, but secondly are key to getting new behaviours, new elements that we haven't had before. For example, we didn't always have the passing coverage within 180 degrees, so the ball would come in to your feet, and you'd have to take a touch and turn. Whereas now we have more animation coverage, it can be done in one fluid movement, with the same feeling of control.

"Another example is around heading and shooting," Channon explained. "Again, we didn't always have enough memory to get the angle coverage, for every single area around the box. So with certain angles you might not get the shot or the header off them you're expecting, which gets slightly frustrating."

Animation wise Madden and Fifa are the two most impressive next gen games, IMO.

Animations, really ? Cause looking at the Xbox one footage, it looks the same as the 360 version.

Lol, for some reason, I honestly don't believe that. EA Sports has been known for poor/recycle animation crap every year. EA Sports will have to work harder to make me actually believe they've done a lot of homeworks. Just me, though.

Yea I agree, from a gameplay stand point they look identical. The next-gen versions have a bit more time to develop so I'll give them the benefit of a doubt.

What do you think of the demo? Haven't played it myself but I've been hearing good reports. If it's improved on the 360 version I have faith the One version will top it. 60 frames a sec and over 300 new animations if your to believe EA

I like it, kind of.They made it way to fast. I been playing it on PC and it has the game speed option and turning it down to slow is better, but the game is still filled with the typical crap. A.I not defending well, always being offside. Ref seems oblivious to the pulling shirts ( Push/Pull feature) stuff now. All CPU players seem to be Messi's and Ronaldo's.

The New shooting stuff is nice though. The UI interface is nice. Has that whole metro style thing going on. Also has several formations set up right in the menu for quick formation changes, which I think is great.

I'll be picking it up on PC though. Then getting the xbox one version.

Not bothering with the demo seeing as the console comes with a copy. Doesn't look like a big update from what Ive seen and I wouldn't have actually bought this years game.
But then Ive not seen much next gen footage of this actually being played.

It's better because I get it for free on Xbox One.
Exactly this.

I personally don't see much of a difference from watching videos online but people who have played them have said that the next gen version is far superior to the current gen version. I'll judge that for myself when I get my free Xbox One copy.

Wake me if they actually do anything significant to improve the AI. The game is terrible to play offline.

Not sure what the deal is but Fifa 14 is now free for smartphones and tablets on the Android market place. Not sure about the app store. 1.27 gigs required.

So it will be on the WP store in about 6 months for £6 and missing half the features...

Its of course talking about the XBox versions but will apply for the PS versions as well.

Damn. No headphones with me at work today. Any chance you could summarise quickly?

You're likely here for one of two reasons. Either you're a FIFA fan who's meticulously tracking the changes between the Xbox One version of FIFA and the one currently available on Xbox 360, trying to work out if it's worth grabbing it for your next gen console, or you've pre-ordered an Xbox One, you're going to be getting a free copy of FIFA 14 with it and you want to know what to expect. Well either way, this is the video for you - we chat to EA direct to find out what the changes are.

One thing EA are quick to point out is that all the content from FIFA 14 on current gen will be making the leap to next gen. That wasn't the case when the last generational shift happened, with FIFA 06 on Xbox 360 a stripped back version of the game. FIFA seems a little more prepared this time around.

The other thing to note is that if you are (football) mad enough to buy two copies of FIFA this year, EA is making the process of transferring your data across as easy as it possibly can. As long as you stay within the Xbox 'family', your seasons, your virtual pro and, crucially, your Ultimate Team will all make the leap across generations.

Beyond that a lot has been made of EA's buzz-wordy 'living world', but it does make a difference. Home and away games now feel completely different and the first time you score a goal and hear just your away fans going crazy in the corner is a bizarre experience.

The main thing though is increased diversity of animations, which means the entire experience is more smooth and subtle. It's sort of like the difference between 30 frames per second and 60, the more animations there are, the more organic the game feels. With the new presentation, which means the match flows as if it were really happening, it's never felt closer to watching football on television.

But what's your take? Have you already bought FIFA 14 for your Xbox 360? Are the changes enough for you to make the upgrade to next-gen? Are you just getting a free copy with your pre-order? Let us know in the comments and if you'd like to see our previous chat with Nick Channon about features that are also relevant to next gen FIFA 14, it's here.

His talk about animations regarding through balls and using inside/outside of the foot for passing is bulls***. FIFA 12,13, and current gen 14 all had those differences.

The big issues for me though is they aren't doing what needs to be done, and that is making the players play to their stats. There really is no point in having a Walcott in your team when his biggest asset ( speed) is worthless cause the defender rated at 48 can match him no problem.

Yes, better crowds are nice. Yes, More animations is nice, but the genre as a whole needs to be purely stat driven to really recreate the game, and scripting needs to be gone. Having a weak stirker hold off the super strong defender to get that goal the A.I decides should happen is bulls***, and Refs need to be fair. In current gen FIFA 14 the ref gives decision against you for virtually nothing but the A.I can knock you about like a rag doll. The differences in play being pulled back after an advantage is given is one of the most annoying things for me.

In the end this seems more like a cosmetic upgrade rather than a revolutionary change between generations:(

Fifa 13 is the same for stat matching. Pro clubs is the worst offender. My speed 92 striker cant out run a 7 foot giant who only seems to run when I'm close by.

They're all the same. It is just different iterations emphasize different stats. FIFA 12's was Speed. FIFA 13 is more dribbling, and FIFA 14's is strength, but even within those the stats are often overridden by the A.I. Is about time we moved past this.

FIFA 14 for example: If you buy a player with a trait of clinical finisher then that player should be deadly in front of goal, and yet he can't score for crap and gets out done by players with shooting stats of mid 60's.

This sort of thing ruins every aspect of the game, from FUT to career to Online seasons and Pro's.

Still can't wait to play it!! :-P

Ha.....I didn't expect you to play . You said before you didn't like playing normal matches all that much.

You best save me a Pro club place though :)
Pro clubs place is a guarantee. You getting a launch edition?

I don't really play it like I said but if there is co op I might give it a lash. The normal seasons brings out the rage in me something awful though. Lol

Nah, no launch edition for me. The last week of November and first week of December will be a busy time for me. So I have decided to wait and not give myself the distraction. Although following through with such decision may prove difficult :hehe:
