FFXII: The Zodiac Age came out yesterday (7/11). This is the HD remaster of the PS2 game. It's exclusive to PS4.

It's getting very good reviews, 87 on metacritic.

Here are some review quotes:

"Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is a remaster done right. Not every facet of the game has aged well, but the clever combat and fantastic cast earns this entry its status as classic RPG, and the Zodiac Age is the best way to play it." - Game Informer

"A wonderful remaster with welcome enhancements, it’s remarkable just how fresh, fun and involving Final Fantasy XII feels over a decade later, with elements that still feel modern." - The Sixth Axis

"Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is a near perfect reworking of a PS2 masterpiece. The game's not without its minor flaws, but overall, this is a startling reminder of how magical Square's beloved series can be." - Push Square

"Final Fantasy XII’s relatable roleplaying adventure has aged remarkably well, and The Zodiac Age remaster improves it further in meaningful ways. The storytelling, visual design, and gameplay feel just as fresh and interesting as they did over a decade ago." - IGN

"Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is right up there with all the acclaimed classics that have enjoyed great remasters." - PSU

"The Zodiac Age is an ideal definitive edition: one that improves the game over its original version across the board." - Gamespot

"Put aside any misconceptions you may have about the idea of re-selling old games in shinier coats, this is no lazy rehash and it was always a dang fine game to boot!" - God is a Geek

"Quite frankly, this is the shining example of how remasters should be. ... an enhanced version of one of the best Final Fantasy titles ever." - AOTF

Here is the Gamespot review. They gave it 85.

I still have this on PS2, never finished it. I wish it was coming to XB One I would definitely give it a play through. From what I remember the original game was great.

Wasn't my favorite FF game back in the day but grew to love and appreciate it. Going to get the remaster at some point for sure.

It would be nice to get these games on Xbox One day one but if comes eventually like FFVII remake whatever. Phil has some more walls to break down. Get that Japanese support.

Looks like one of the better FF's, and a really good remaster of it. I'm not sure how much of a FF type guy I am, though. I've tried two FF's -- X and XIII -- and didn't like either.

I might give FF XII a shot one of these days, but I have a feeling that I'm just not a JRPG type person.

Just figured I'd post this because it seems like a slow period, and it was getting good reviews.

Give it a shot, you might like it. FFXII is probably the least FF like game of the modern era FF games. That's why a lot of people didn't like it at first. It's still a JRPG, but it's fully open world with real time combat like FFXIII but doesn't make you play for 40 hours before opening up.

I didn't realize it had real-time combat. It's the turn-based stuff that does me in. I have never developed a taste for that.

I might give it a shot during a slow period, thanks.

I mean, that's some half-assed back catalog of titles that should've been here a long time ago but still I guess it's pretty significant that it's the first time FF7 has hit an Xbox or Nintendo console.

That's cool. Only took them 20 years to bring these games to other consoles. Bunch of sell outs. How can you keep doing this to us Square?

Nah, i don't mind the games coming to Switch since they started on Nintendo consoles but really? I don't see enough copies being sold on Xbox to warrant the move.

Where is FF8?

Also would love FF Tactics.

For some reason the skipped it when they released 9 on PS4

Well at least some are reasonably new. The X/XII remasters and World of FF for example.

The fact I can get achievements for playing FF7 Xbox has me all kinds of happy.
