Official Thread Gears 4 **NO SPOILERS**

I don't mind working for the credits but releasing it for 24 hours after everyone spent their credits on Gearsmas is a lame thing to do. Oh well, it's back now for the next two weeks at least they said. I already got most of what i wanted from the packs but others aren't so lucky.

Sadly this is least I have played of any GEARS game.( I played GEARS 3 daily for almost 2 years!!!) I like the campaign, I like the game play for the most part. I hate the playlists (why can't we have 5 player social back...) and the MICRO TRANS are really rubbing me the wrong way. I bought the SEASON PASS and it is pretty much worthless. I was really excited for the UIR packs especially after the GEARSMAS packs were so cheap. NOPE. $10/4400 gears points for RNG?! That is some straight up GREED. Titanfall 2 has its Microtrans much better. Very cheap and no RNG.

Fired this up after a month away. I live in KY and was matched up every game with teams full of Mexicans. Is the matchmaking in this game screwed up or something? Or is the population that low?

This is an issue with all MS 1st party games. Matchmaking is broken. They use only a handful of servers to cut down search times but it creates high disparity in ping. I keep getting matched up with people in Dallas or Mexico in Halo 5 where there's an Azure server. That was my region locked server when 343 tried region lock. I live in the Detroit area. Not fair when my ping is well over a 100 while gamers in Dallas have virtually no latency. Someone usually has home server advantage so they might as well just go back to peer to peer host advantage.

Yup, it's bad at times. Depends on what time of the day you play the game but early morning i always get matched up with people halfway across the world and the connection sucks. Their dedicated servers need work because it feels like someone has an advantage every time. So many point blank shots just don't even do anything but then you get downed from one shot when they're not even close to you.

That's crazy. I'm not even sure how that's possible.

I wish dude would have put the screen against a wall though instead of right in front of a day lit window.

I beat this game a couple weeks ago. It was OK fun much of the time because the old Gears formula is fun. I was so disappointed by the lack of progress in gameplay though. What I mean by that is the environments you battle in and the enemy AI make for real scripted battles. There isn't much that's dynamic about the game. AI has not progressed since Gears 1. You still see guys sometimes turn as soon as you pop from cover even when there's no noise or shots to prompt their attention. On the flip side, enemies do the dumbest things going in and out of cover. There just isn't a lot of ways to approach these battles differently. Environments are so stale and lifeless and there isn't much strategy in using them.

Boss fights followed Halo 5 in being the worst part of the game. The final boss was a tedious joke. He was more of an exercise in patience and felt like a grind rather than be something that tested any skill.

The weather looked nice but the lightning puzzles were terrible.

My favorite parts of the game were when you'd have to fend off hordes of enemies and were able to strategize where to put turrets and traps. I could honestly play an entire game based on that.

For Gears 5, I hope Coalition pushes the envelope in gameplay. Graphics are good enough. Characters are decent. There's a good base to work with. I'd like to see more adventures in utilizing physics. Get creative with weapons that can take advantage of interactive environments. AI needs an overhaul. Would be nice to see more wide open areas in place of the forced corridor paths. Choosing corridor path A or corridor path B is a very uncreative way to make environments seem bigger than they are. Gears can keep it's core gameplay but evolve into something more dynamic.

Overall I give the campaign a 7.5. There was nothing broken about it. They re-established the franchise in a way that was faithful to it's roots. Characters and world are solid. There were moments when the fun spiked and I really enjoyed the game. I think Gears is at it's best when the enemies put you in a defensive mode and get aggressive. It needs to evolve though. Franchise is a bit stale due to it's lack of evolution.

Need to try Horde Mode now.

Different strokes I guess, because the fending off wave after wave parts were by far my least favorite.

Those who don't have me on live...add me CuTTinEdg3 and we can squad up.

You need to be good to get on my friends list. I carry enough randoms already. I'm going to need video clips of you clutching 3v1's or some other tangible evidence that you could be an asset to my team.

Wait, you're actually going to put down Destiny to play Gears 4? I don't think so Val, you're fired.

Gears Of War 4 Free Update Adds New Maps, Valentine's Day Event; "Inconceivable" Difficulty Coming

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/gears-of-war-4-free-update-adds-new-maps-valentine/1100-6447622/
The first new map is called Impact Dark. A nighttime version of the map Impact, the map also features reduced visibility due to smoke that is spread throughout the arena. Additionally, snipers are replaced with Boltoks, while the Dropshot replaces the Torque/EMBAR.

"The result is a new version of Impact that plays completely differently to its original brethren," Microsoft said. "The combination of close range weapon swaps and reduced visibility ups the pace for a more intense version of Impact, where players need to stay on their toes to win. Support players will need to take bigger risks to impact fights and reduced visibility will make reading the battlefield tougher for even the most competitive teams."

The second new map is War Machine, which makes its return from the original
Gears of War

but with some notable changes.

"Moving away from the old abandoned train station locale, War Machine is now set in a new COG Settlement, standing out with its pristine appearance and gleaming grandiose features," reads a line from its description. "Compared to the original, signs of life are everywhere--from the active DeeBee security bay, to the train sitting at the end of the platform ready to depart."

Impact Dark and War Machine are available right now in Gears of War 4's Developer Playlist, which is only open to people who own the game's season pass. The supported game modes include team deathmatch, Guardian, and King of the Hill; players will receive double XP and a 20 percent bonus for credits. Impact Dark and War Machine will be available for all players at a later date.

In terms of gameplay changes, today's Gears of War 4 update adds what Microsoft calls leader spawns. Players will now respawn near their leader. This adds a new strategic element to the mix.

"Leaders now need to position themselves in beneficial areas of the map, while other players will have more opportunity to get back to their leader and come to their aid," Microsoft said.

Gears of War 4's Valentine's Day event begins on February 10. Starting that day, players can pick up newGear Packs and acquire Valentine's Day-themed bounties every day. The game mode Torque Bow Tag is also making a comeback with a "Cupid-style twist." More details about Gears of War 4's Valentine's Day event will be shared later this week.

Additionally, Microsoft revealed some details of future Gears of War 4 updates. First, a pre-game lobby for Core and Competitive playlists will come to the game in the March update. Also in March, Microsoft will release at least one more legacy character to collect. On top of that, the company said it is listening to fan feedback regarding playlists and weapon tuning and will make changes as needed in the future.

There are also changes coming to Gears of War 4's Horde mode and campaign this summer; this includes the following:

  • New "Inconceivable" difficulty (campaign & Horde)
  • IronMan Mode (campaign & Horde)
  • Level 6 skills for all class skills
  • More skills for existing classes
  • New achievements

Should be a good update. Holiday themes are fun. Only thing is every time they release a new pack they drop another like 2 days later, lol. So not sure i want to spend my credits on Valentine's Day stuff. Oh well, i play the game enough to grind out whatever comes.

War Machine was awesome, glad to see that map returning. Really love that they added Blood Drive, but was hoping for other Gears 2 maps. Clocktower is okay but it's not as good as it was in the original Gears.

plus the Overkill, they somehow managed to make the map even worse

Can't see your image. Blood Drive is awesome though, stop hating.

Clocktower on the other hand.. they took out a couple barriers and completely changed the way the map is played.

After playing this much more......
Its teh sex!
I haven't played it yet, but damn, some of the campaign looks amazing.

I still think there's something 'wrong' looking about the multiplayer levels, but that's probably because the videos Ive watched of them aren't during gameplay. They look like they're made with Tony Hawk's Skateboarder 2 level editor.

I am on Act IV right now. Not sure what to think right now. Either I have outgrown Gears, or was Gears always this cheesy and "Army of Two" feeling? I would be hard pressed to buy Gears 5 unless they make some changes. I highly doubt they will change the formula since they made this game from the ground up.

Seriously, an entire act chasing down Marcus stuck inside of the belly of some snatch????

I like the way Snatchers and Pouncers make you adapt quickly.

Snatchers force yoou to work co operativey and pouncers constantly force you to find new cover

I'm on Act V Chapter 1. It's not been a bad campaign and it can be challenging at times. My favorite gameplay is when wind is involved.
