Did you two even read my post? it would require extensive customisation just to get it to work with the GDDR5. The only performance improvements the digital foundry article even mentions are around latency to keep the CPU fed which probably relates to higher latency GDDR5 they are now using...

So when he says:
There's significant hardware offloading too - some of which is inherited from Xbox One, some of which is radically new.
You read:
Offloading tasks to hardware is totally about latency and not at all about freeing up performance on the CPU.

Gotcha.

edit:
" All signs point to the upclocked Jaguar cores we find in Xbox One, and Scorpio's CPU set-up is indeed an evolution of that tech, but subject to extensive customisation and the offloading of key tasks to dedicated hardware."

I guess that's more of that special dedicated anti-latency hardware.

Thats not modifications to the CPU though, thats new hardware, something that is completely different. I thought you where arguing the CPU had extensive performance modifications?.

Microsoft only has to repeat, over and over, that your existing games and future purchases are going to look significantly better on this system — and there’s nothing the PlayStation 4 Pro can do to compete.

Actually I think Sony's library of games is the best way for them to compete. Power is great especially for someone like myself who is drawn to pretty graphics like a moth to a flame. But the games Sony has been putting out lately are truly diverse and impressive in quality. The way the PS4 is now hitting its stride is reminiscent of the era of the PS2 during its glory days.

I get it, we're early in MSFT's messaging for Scorpio and they will no doubt get to the games part. But I wonder, is their strategy to be the go-to console for third-party titles with little exclusives. If so that's cool, I don't mind making the Scorpio my machine of choice for all the third-party games. But when you get down to it I think the exclusive games will be the deciding factor. And MSFT's offerings of games that can only be played on their platform has been slim to none as of late. But again, I know its early and I wouldn't count them out just yet. I have a hope for some surprise reveals from MSFT at E3.

I'm really pulling for MSFT to make a strong come back. I just can't deny what Sony has been doing for a while now.

Posts like these make no sense to me. Microsoft HAS been releasing exclusives with more on the way. Sure, there hasn't been too many this year - - yet - - but surely on the way. That Scalebound outcry had people lose their minds it seems - which is weird. Most pretty much crapped on it while it was in development. Just bizarre.

I guess what I should have said is the exclusives MSFT has released of late haven't had that "wow" factor......except Forza Horizon 3 that racing game just blows all others out of the water in my opinion.

But there have been very few new and exciting games for the Xbox. But conversely Sony has been throwing it down in terms of different and fun games. Part of that excitement within me is because of just purchasing and loving Persona 5 for the PS4. Its something totally different from anything I'd play and yet its so damn good and only available on a Sony platform. Then there are games like Nioh, Nier or Gravity Rush 2 which are more games I don't see an equivalent to on the Xbox.

I'm not trying to start a list war or ruffle anyone's feathers. But its very much what have you done for me lately. That's just the way life is and while I appreciate all that MSFT has done in the past. Lately they have almost become irrelevant in the gaming discussion with Sony and Nintendo making most of the headlines. Now that MSFT is starting to talk about Scorpio I think that will change.

I think all this back and forth on the CPU doesn't matter unless you're saying Scorpio isn't capable of what Spencer says and DF said they saw.

Scorpio is going to run Xbox One games at 4k with something left over to make the target Xbox One frame rate more stable with the picture clearer and smoother.

If 3rd party games checkerboard at Xbox One frame rates or we get the other end of the spectrum with ray tracing lighting...then it would be interesting to find out why.

I'm just not sure what all this downplaying is for unless you come out and say hitting 4k is going to be the exception rather than the rule.

  • The policies don't allow for games not possible on OG Xbox One
  • No matter how great the hardware in 2017, it will be low end in the pc market by 2019
So if it's powerful enough to do what Spencer is claiming, what's your point?

Oh great. PlayStation list wars in the Scorpio thread...

Like Xbox gamers didn't know they weren't getting 3rd party ports of games that release first in Japan. This has been the case since OG Xbox launched in 2001. Despite all the recent articles, it has no bearing on Xbox brand or Scorpio since those games never sold on the system

Mods please create a Xbox vs PlayStation thread you can send all these PlayStation posts to.

No bearing you say? I think having a diverse game line-up has a huge influence on what console a gamer purchases. I think that's a major reason why the PS4 continues to outsell the Xbox in almost every month. I guess if you don't know what you're missing it doesn't matter. But once you try something outside your comfort zone and realize how much more gaming is out there its a real eye opener.

Man this backwards compatibility thing is an ugly nightmare for sony, its like they are on the opposite ends of the spectrum with MS.

People paid money for games upgraded to 1080p this gen as "remasters" with little changes in many cases, now we see the possibly of 4K improvements for free, not to mention all the other 16AA advantages, framerates improvements, etc.

What a disparity if this works out as rumored. PS Now VS what Scorpio is attempting. That alone is worth $100 to me if it works out.

There could be some merit to that , certainly . However people also purchased the Sony system based on the advantage of higher frame rate and resolution for the money. Meaning hey, if I'm on invest a certain amount of money into a new gaming console , probably going to go with the one that's going to produce the best resolution and frame rate for the games that I like. That certainly Was the case when both consoles launched .

For a 100 dollars less , you were getting a system that was more powerful and would produce the best results for multiplayer games . And also Microsoft's mix message out the gate with DRM . And add to it the perception of being an entertainment box instead of up pure game machine.

Also taking one of the best you UIs from the previous console , the 360, and then removing everything that made it great when one the Xbox one launched. I never will understand that . Smh .

Also a person like me that owns both consoles ... for third-party games most the time I went with the PS4 version because the price of the game was the same, 59.00 for both consoles . However getting more value out of the graphics department for my money with the PS4 version.

Now that Microsoft has made there UI great again, and are finally releasing a gamers console , that puts out awesome power . All of my purchases will be made on that console . I'm pretty sure a lot of other gamers are going to follow suit on this . Well the sales reflect ? Probably so I guess we're going to have to wait-and-see . In my personal opinion , everything I stated above was the main reason for the sales gap . Not so much Exclusives.

I can agree with most of your logic. I think having the most powerful hardware made gamers like myself opt for the PS4 version since it was going to be the best version of third-party games in most cases. But now that Sony is consistently pushing out great exclusives it will help them maintain their momentum. But MSFT is in a good position to slow that momentum with Scorpio. I can't wait to see real examples of what Scorpio can do. The next Red Dead comes out this year and if it has Scorpio support that could be huge for MSFT.

Might triple dip on Destiny 2 lol

As far as the VS discussion....
Read the sig.... This years best looking games will not be on the Scorpio

Speaking of backwards compatibility when I was playing black ops two last night on Xbox one there were 141,000 people on line playing . That's insane for an old game like that but god it's so much fun. My favorite one out of all the series.

What someone considers best is subjective and someone's personal opinion . That's kind of premature to compare visuals when we haven't even seen a single game in Scorpio yet. It's rather silly even to make that argument until after we have seen the games .

I am referring to majority awards but you knew this.
Its also premature to assume that my opinion is premature.
I have my reasons and we will watch when Pro wins best visuals awards.
Its silly cause its will beat Xbox right

after reading that response I got to admit , you're sharp as a razor. Lol

Based on just technical specs and what we know each is capable of Scorpio has more bandwidth in the corner.

Sony has the 1st party devs in their corner. It will be a tough fight.

That happened when they got rid of the blades
