The CPU in the PS4/Pro isn't off the shelf though, again there are things that they've done to get more benefits out of it. I'm not saying they customized it as much as MS did for Scorpio, then again they didn't really need to. Customizations will only do so much, you are still dealing with a jaguar that's only 200mhz faster than the CPU in the Pro, if you are expecting miracles out of that I think you'll be disappointed. The GPU in the PS4 Pro has features that the Scorpio doesn't and the Scorpio GPU has features that the one in the Pro doesn't, they took different paths here based on their goals and timing.
Exactly. All that really matters is the performance.
It's like car engines. Common engines are V4, V6, V8. Doesn't mean all V4s are the same. Some are better than others.
You mean the initial footage where Cerny stood in front of a screen babbling about tech specs for 20 minutes in a dark room and tried to tell gamers Pro graphics are better when everyone is streaming the video on their computer which is not 4k or HDR?

Or DF analyzing Pro games and noticing only a small handful are true 4k, most are checkerboard, and some Pro games actually run worse than the vanilla OG game.

Or maybe you mean resolution wars? Last gen, 99.9% of gamers didn't care about resolution. Most games were 720p, 360 had slight resolution advantages (CoD, R*), yet nobody really cared. You can tell nobody cared since Call of Duty in it's glorious "600p" 1,000 x 600 resolution was loved by the media and gamers and sold 20 million copies each year. On the other hand, all the other shooters at higher res (usually 720p) were tossed aside.
The lowest resolution game last gen sold the most every year..... with exception of maybe the year GTA4 came out.... but you know what I mean.
It was Sony gamers pinpointing resolution advantages this gen. Fair enough. Go ahead. Now that Scorpio should have games at higher res more often, it's just the same thing back at Sony gamers.

I'm ready to grab a 4k tv in the fall too. Should be cheap. 60" 4k tvs with HDR can be scored for $1,500.
The good thing about Scorpio is the focus on giving gamers options between res, visuals and performance. It won't come close to PC slider tweaks, but a handful of options between hi/lo visuals and performance will be nice.
If 4k/60 fps isn't default, I'll be going 4k/30 fps for SP games (like a Fallout or Skyrim), but for sports and twitch shooters, sub-4k/60 fps.
That freesync thing is intriguing, but by the looks of it, it's such a new feature for TVs, no TV even has it. So might have to miss out on that. I don't see myself gaming on a high end PC monitor.
If a freesync TV comes out in a few years, I'll get that for my entertainment hub, and put the non-freesync tv elsewhere.

You need to consider your words before you post. Val's posts may be anti Microsoft but alot of his posts come as neutral too. Point is I consider Val an essential part of this forum as his posts serve as a check to the otherwise overwhelming Microsoft support.

They cite MS employee who says it's not really appropriate to call it a Jaguar. They have the SOC in their possession. If you want to show us your Scorpio Engine and cite your interview with an actual first party source, I'll give your position the merit it would then be due. Until then, pics or it didn't happen.

One thing I don't like about "Generations being over" is that half the fun of a console reveal, was seeing the new control.
I love the idea of keeping my controllers, but it does kind of muffle some of the fanfare.
