God of War

Could not disagree more.

To me, it looks bland and uninspired. Like SSM had a bunch of time to figure out a fresh concept, failed to find one, until someone just said "OK guys, let's just shoehorn God of War into the Last of Us/Uncharted mold."

Whenever I see clips of the game all I see is that s***ty hallway with mindless fodder enemies thrown in your way. You could not pay me $60 bucks to do that for 25 - 35 hours.

I can kind of see what you're saying. But that's what fans of the game want. You're just not a fan. It happens.

I don't go into the Persona thread and complain that there should be less of the things that makes that series what it is.

Where I disagree with you is your opinion that they are playing it safe with no risks. This is just about a full on reboot with some fundamental game play changes.

Tell me about all the games that are taking big risks

This feels disingenuous. You're looking at the game industry just as intently as I am so you know what games I'm referring to. I suspect you want me to list these games so you can rattle off each games inspiration, somehow suggesting that if a game or genre borrows from another, then it's just as "stale" as the new God of War. That would of course, be insane.

If you sincerely want to discuss games that feel fresh or unique, perhaps it's best if you started up a new thread. The eyes watching tend not to appreciate thread derailment for this long.

Sorry but a total reboot on the narrative, gameplay and overall mechanics is about as big of a risk as you can take.

The Sunset Limited, you've got a long pattern of trolling, and as I've mentioned before, you're on a short leash. I'm not saying you're trolling here, but I do think you've made your negative opinion on this game known about 4 times now, and that's enough. We get it. It's not for you. Maybe it's time to move on to a thread where the game is one you have an interest in playing.

I'm really looking forward to this. I remember playing a tiny bit of Ascension, but very little of it, so God of War III was really the last one I put any time into. With the new direction they're taking, I can't wait to give this one a spin. Hope we get a release date soon...

God of War Won’t Have a Season Pass
http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2018/01/19/there-wont-be-a-god-of-war-season-pass-says-director/

God of War is taking the series in some exciting new directions, but that doesn’t mean there’ll be a bunch of DLC content.[There’s] no season pass,” said director Cory Barlog responding to a user on Twitter. He also stated that he just completed another playthrough of the game, and that it “was still awesome!”

Check out Barlog’s full statement on Twitter below:

No season pass. As for the story questions – you will have to wait and play the game to see how it all shakes out. I just finished another play-through last night around midnight and it was still awesome! I'm totally biased, though.

I’m really looking forward to playing this. I haven’t played the series before so it means nothing to me about the change in direction. I’ve really liked all the game play videos I’ve seen so far. This will be a day one for me.

With each gameplay video the developers give me more confidence that this major change for this series was a really good idea. I was initially put off by the radically different main weapon but the combat looks awesome with the Ax. I was worried that they might not include the large scale bosses this series is known for and that worry was put to rest with some other video. I'm really looking forward to this game now.

I'm just curious. Why is criticising a game, or anything really, considered trolling? I never understood that. Why are only a games cheerleaders allowed to discuss it?

I can't be the only one who considers criticism, as long as it's relatively well thought out, not only entertaining but also welcome?

You're not listening (I specifically said I wasn't saying you were trolling). You're deliberately mischaracterizing what I said. You're also continuing with the belittling language/attitude (e.g., "games' cheerleaders").

As I said, you've got a long history of trolling, getting permabanned, and then returning to TXB/Union under a different guise. You've done that at least half a dozen times. Plainview was nice enough to let you back in, but you've got less leeway than others. It's probably best for you to avoid getting anywhere near trolling. Some of your posts here do, imo -- they verge on trolling or sh*tposting.

This is what you consider thoughtful criticism?

Looks like linear bull**** to me! Pass!

It looks bland and uninspired. Like SSM had a bunch of time to figure out a fresh concept, failed to find one, until someone just said "OK guys, let's just shoehorn God of War into the Last of Us/Uncharted mold."

You then go on to repeat that sort of "thoughtful criticism" twice more.

I suggested that's enough, time to stop, but you can't just listen and move on, but instead choose to distort what I say and make an argument out of it. So, take a break from the thread.

Game Informer:

God Of War's Developers On Finally Finishing The Game

With our cover story on God of War, we dive in deep on the game's combat and gameplay. As one of the most-anticipated PlayStation 4 games on the horizon, a lot of fans want to know when the game is actually being released. While the team at Santa Monica Studio remains silent on the exact release date, we spoke with creative director Cory Barlog and studio head Shannon Studstill about how much is left to accomplish before the game hits store shelves.

Watch the video below to learn why the game's development has been so challenging compared to previous projects and why the game itself is surprisingly emotional.

Haha, Barlog seems like a cool dude. Glad he came back and lead another great looking game. Now if only Clint Hocking who is finally working on a game back at Ubisoft could get another game out!

Barlog made my fav GOW game so I was really glad when it was announced he was coming back and I love the changes he has made.

Yeah I saw that the other day, it cracked me up. Barlog is a pretty funny guy.

He is. Some of his answers to the rapid fire interview are funny, too. He's got a good sense of humor. Better than any other lead developer I've known, actually (Tim Schaefer always seems to get the nod in this department, but for some reason I don't find him all that funny).

Far too many devs just sort of 'tow the company line' in interviews and you rarely get any sort of glimpse at their genuine personality, so when it happens its usually quite apparent...

Yeah, it's refreshing to not hear the PR-filtered talk.

He has talked about how this is a personal project for him -- that the changes he made came (in part) from his life experience, e.g., becoming a father, maturing as a person. I think that's part of why we are getting more of his personality coming through. Either that, or this is the first time I've paid attention to a God of War game, so I never noticed him before.

I am confused by the criticism that they haven't shown enough gameplay because people kept telling me that Sony shows off their games too much and now its not enough?

The games allegedly out in 6 weeks and the most we have is a 2 year old 10 minute demo. A 7 month old mash of cutscenes and a 3 month old 30 second battle.

Game Informers preview didnt even have any new info or hands on gameplay.

Contrast to god of war 3 where previewers were allowed to play the first level (Gaia) in mid 2009.

Now i dont think anyone is suggesting this game has been delayed to May or June, but if it were:

1) Are gamers happy about a 6 -7 month gap in new first party releases. That sounds like a lot.
2) How does Sony fit in the releases of Detroit and Spiderman before E3 if god of war is late May?

Maybe its going to suck or maybe its still a ways off all I know is no matter what you will be there with some kind of negative spin.

Couldn't agree more, I had to check the ignored content to see who you were responding to but yeah you are 100% correct, he'll be there to rip it apart somehow, he'll probably never play it but he'll tear it down anyway. BTW He's wrong, gameinformer did play it, they didn't share footage of them playing it but they did go hands on with the game.

I dont think its a random assumption to suggest shennannigans if Sony can announce two games due in February and March last October but this 'March' game needs to wait another 3 months to announce just because.

Especially for a multitude of other reasons like the lack of gameplay shown or the numerous other last minute delays we saw to Sonys other first party games.

GoW release dates are announced on short notice to avoid delays. You won't see a lot of footage based on the fact it a new type GoW. Most likely they are trying to avoid spoilers. Also the trailers are packed with content if you pay attention. Even now people are finding bosses they didn't know existed.

I don't know why this is even worth an argument, much less a d*ck waving contest full of boasts about "being right." (Congratulations? Take a victory lap and phone your mom; I'm sure she'll be proud.)

When it comes out is trivial, imo (as long as it makes 2018 ). The only thing that matters is whether it's good or not.

You were wrong boo hoo. Ain't that big of a deal..
