I love that they've changed so many things like getting rid of the crappy fixed camera, the chains are gone and Kratos is more than just a screaming maniac now!

Dev/Lead Actor interview

I know some people are upset at the new direction, but this makes me care about the protagonist, and being a father, I already empathize with him. I love stories of redemption too. I also like the more intimate combat. Feels less video-gamey and has much more resonance. My body is ready.

Yeah, Frozpot and I were talking about why we didn't like God of War before this reveal, and we were both saying he was just too much of an unrelatable, selfish, raging d*ck. I'm happy about the change of direction. Having a son that you're taking care of introduces all kinds of interesting dynamics and possibilities for storytelling and drama that just weren't present before. And they make Kratos seem more like an actual person, rather than just a raging assh*le.

I'm glad they ditched the distant camera, too. Could never get into the game, because of that -- as Frozpot said, it felt very videogamey. I like the close-up axe murdering, too, rather than slinging those blades around.

All good changes, imo. I'm on board.

Well if they went with more of the same you would have people complaining that it is just more of the same. Who knows if this drastic of a change will be good. For any series to last for a long time and maintain its quality and relevance they probably have to make legitimate changes sooner or later.

I like the new direction for God of War. It's kinda funny how people are bashing it for going in a different direction but those same people never really cared for the franchise anyway. It used to get hate for being a QTE fest and for the fixed camera angles. Now it's just another The Last of Us clone apparently. You can't please everyone.

From IGN:

While you assume complete control of Kratos, you also passively control his son throughout the entire game, and both characters grow and evolve. There’s a single button dedicated to your son, and its use depends on the context. He becomes an active participant in combat, traversal, exploration, and puzzle-solving. In this, the game is about passing knowledge onto your child. At the beginning of your journey, you teach a reluctant child how to fire a bow and hunt. As you progress through the game, that becomes second-nature to the boy, and it’s clear that your knowledge has been passed on.

This game is about Kratos teaching his son how to be a god, and the kid teaching Kratos how to be human again.

The entire game is presented as a single, uninterrupted shot. Once you’re in, you’re in. No load screens, no cinematics, no fades to black. Kratos and his son’s journey across the world of Norse mythology -- which takes place an undisclosed amount of time past God of War III -- will be told in a wholly singular, and honestly unique manner.

We now view the world from behind Kratos’ shoulders, with the previously-static camera now being controlled using the right stick. This part is important, because the world is rife with hidden paths, secret nooks, and collectables hidden all over the place. During my extended demo, we wandered off the beaten path and discovered a number of crafting resources, pieces of armor, and idols. God of War will feature larger, much more in-depth RPG systems, something Sony will discuss further down the road.

lol, people calling it Dad of War.

Sounds great, though. I like the sound of RPG elements, the world being full of stuff to find, and the connection with your son. The long, uninterrupted shot is interesting, too. No cinematics. No loading of new areas. I'm not sure how that will play out. I would normally think it might be dull after a while, and your eye would want some type of break, but I'm sure they'll find a way to mix it up.

I've been telling people for years that I wanted to get away from using those blades, the thought of Kratos just bashing someone in with his hands sounded more appealing to me and we saw that in the trailer :) plus the ax seems like a great weapon too and it actually left cut marks on the giants leg when he sliced him. The way the ax came back to him after he threw it at that demon I thought people were going to start calling this God of Thor but I guess Dad of War took over lol. All I know is I am 100% on board with the changes even one that really surprised me, going with a new voice actor. I always liked Christopher Judge as an actor (big SG1 fan here) and I'm glad the hired him and gave that guy from living single the boot.

Lol, Dad of War sounds awesome :D

So, Watching an interview with the Dev, and he's saying that the Troll is the equivalent of the Cyclops from previous games, and that there are more and much larger encounters. He even mentioned having maybe 100 baddies on screen. Doesn't sound like T&A are on the plate for this one though... Sorry 13 year olds....

Santa Monica are tech wizards,I remember someone telling me they are Sony's go to coding studio so I expect them to pull off some unbelievable stuff with this game.

Is it a reboot? I thought it was a continuation of the story from God of War 3. Either way, the gameplay they showed was amazing. I love how a lot of games from Sony are taking a more story-driven approach to their products.

I call it a reboot because they've change so many things from previous games, the story may be a continuation but that's almost all that's being carried over.

The more I think about it the more I think reboot can be confusing so I changed the title, glad you brought that up :)

Epic boss fights incoming? Stolen shamelessly from GAF.

First one looks like Loki? 2nd one, I have no idea. 3rd seems to be the World's Serpent which is this huge ass snake.

Now, here’s the literally big one:

For those familiar with the trailer, this is the scene were we see the whole scale of GoW’s landscape, and surely the approaching Dragon catches our eyes. So, while most of us looked at that Dragon, there was a “little” detail which could easily be missed, a potential enemy which seems to be the much, MUCH bigger threat for Kratos and his son:

Yes, that seems to be some giant snake moving from the right to the left, and some of us think it’s big enough to qualify for being the famous Midgard Serpent, also known as Jörmungandr or the World Serpent:

It's cool that Cory Barlog is back. I like the reboot too. Ascension was kind of a mess.

He was the guy who helmed GOW2 and that to me was the best in the series by far, sure 3 had better graphics but I think the story (in 3) such as it was sucked and so did so many other elements, it was clear that game had a first time director behind it.

Parenting fail. I am going to bring my emo kid, with a hair that is out of fashion since the iron age, to a dangerous forest filled with monsters, & have him run 50 feet in front of me.

Negative! That's how you grow bad-ass adults... If they survive...

Ooooh, I am sooooo happy for you! You get to talk with Frozpot all the time! JUST RUB MY FACE IN IT!!!

AND you discuss pin points and artifices of things you dislike?! Is this before your pillow fights and bubble baths together!?!?

I have never hated you more Andy... AND I AM NOT JEALOUS!!!

*Ahem* game looks good. Unrealistic though. Greeks retire at 35 don't they?

watched the demo on my TV last night. I was like WTF is this during the Sony conference. Now I wanted it in HD on my TV you see some good stuff like Kratos about to lose his s*** when the kid f***s up but you can see him try and calm himself down. That is cool little touches but I will miss raging a****** Kratos. I did like GOW3 when Kratos was around Pandora he really wanted to protect her at the end even if it cost him his revenge towards Zeus.

So it will be nice to see Kratos trying to act like a human being. I give Sony so much credit for changing up the game play style of one of their major franchises.

The gameplay trailer has over 9 million views on youtube now. I did not realise God Of War was this big of a franchise.

Cool stats TB. And it's something I never really thought about to gauge interest in something.

I'm saddened by the amount of views of a game on another console that you listed. But interesting stuff.
