Hey guys

thinking of getting a new desktop Pc, of course for gaming, but gonna be used for editing and VFX work with UE and Blender/After Effects etc.

what you guys think of these specs please? Prob will go for 128gb RAM instead of 64gb

That's pretty good in my estimation for gaming. I don't do any editing so I can't comment on that aspect.

Ryzen CPU play nice with Nvidia cards. I've got a Ryzen 7 3800x paired with a RTX 3080 and I haven't hit many limitations.

Thank you. Normally if a PC is good enough for hi end gaming then it’s good enough for VFX work.

Looking good to me. Going to be a hell of a beast. I'm jelly.

Looks good to me. 7950X will blitz through those kinds workloads. If you're trying to do 128gb of memory you really need to do your research on memory capacity, speeds, and latecies on the AM5 platform in regards to compatibility.

Depending on how serious your VFX work and UE work is you might also want to opt for a RTX 4090 for the extra VRAM.

I don't know anything compared to the rest of the guys on here,

accept one thing that I learned the hard way.

Get the most future proof motherboard you can afford and hope for the best.

Not just future proof as in it's got all the latest, but is it also the most popular of motherboards that are future proof. Talking about socket and support, the ability to replace it if need be down the road.

I'm totally screwed on 9th Gen intel........like a ticking timebomb haha.

Yes. Good specs. I would say you would've been good with 64GB of ram as well but the more the merrier....especially for Bender/After Effects a la ram destroyers.

Yeah i emailed them and they told me for the meantime stick to 64gb RAM as DDR5 is kinda untested territory as new hardware, is this correct please? He said in future it will prob get updated to the higher range of storage.

I know we got more serious gamers and content producers here that could help you such as @Nervusbreakdown @DriedMangoes @Kvally @Eric Matyas @patmanqc @eVo7 @Dark Helmet @DarkPassenger

I know there’s others, I forget their tags atm

But have you considered getting a Mac mini or Mac Studio ? From what I’ve seen even a base Mac mini is really good for video production.
I have considered the new Mac Pro but not sure as I switched from Apple to Windows as AMD cards didn’t play ball with after effects and other software back in the day. Not sure if it’s better with the M2 chip. I have heard the Mac studio is very powerful as well. I am tempted.

I actually love Mac, I have loads of Apple devices at home, it’s just now my workflow is mainly windows plus all my external SSD drives, with all my files/assets, I don’t think I can just plug and play if I get a Mac Studio.
The new Mac Studio does look pretty amazing though.

done a little research today re this, and RTX for 3D/CG still stuff blows the M2 Ultra out of the water. The Mac Studio M2 ultra is bloody good though, but RTX is way ahead for rendering speeds.

While I work on my desktop I listen to podcasts and YouTube so had the reviews/tests on all day.

That's pretty accurate, I don't think there are 128GB kits with tight timings and high frequencies (>5600mhz, with Zen 4 6000mhz is kinda where you would want to be) that are stable enough for consumer work just yet, or they are very rare.

Thanks so much. I think 64gb should be good enough anyways. I just wish things were more future proof. Hopefully if I get this, it should last me a few years 😂
