Gran Turismo Sport Official Thread

Lol that's me.

I want to get a Forza game, just to create a bad Drivatar.

I'm drunk when I game, so I'll never win a driving game.

Using the power of the cloud for trolling purposes is a wonderful thing.

Is it true this game won't have an offline career mode? I've read that elsewhere, but idk...

No wonder their games keep getting delay. They spend too much time on times few care about.
Measure lights & paint material of actual cars.

I am an automotive engineer for car interior, & We do (not me personally) measure paints & lights. But there is a logical reason too, as lights & materials must synegized across the whole interior, from different suppliers. A different glossiness of paint, different intensity of lights & color can be obvious. The actual color/glossiness/finish of paint is FAR less significant. In a digital game when you can apply same material with a click of a mouse, or button, its unneccessary.

Its overtkill what GT team is doing, beside, did you missed I said the part paint & finish & lighting are specified? This means both the specification & actual measured result srae available, so they can just ask the manufacturers.

You can play the "campaign mode" offline, but there is no career mode as in the past:

Beginner’s School
From basic skills such as hitting the brakes and how to turn into a corner, fundamentals can be learned from the bottom up, which will prove invaluable for newcomers to driving games.

Mission Challenge
As you work your way through short missions, you will automatically pick up fundamental driving skills without even realizing it. In the end, you will have a level of skill that will allow you to participate in major race events.

Circuit Experience
Through actual experience on a race track, you will step into the true world of high-performance driving. Use the knowledge of track layouts learned in the mission challenges to pick up the basics of how to conquer a race course.

Race Etiquette
In online, as well as real races, etiquette on the track is as important as performance. Learn the rules of etiquette and sportsmanship that’s required in all player-vs-player races. Even if you’re not a top driver with lots of confidence in your skill, you will still have plenty of fun because each player will be matched fairly with people of their own level for fair and equal online racing.

This game is disappearing further and further off my radar the more I learn about it.

I want it bad. Wish GT6 had been a PS4 launch title. Love this series but it's been mishandled for so long.

Nice! Looks good to me :)

I get what you mean about how long it's taking, but I'll never say no to being sticklers for detail.

I like the traing bits. If there is one thing I want Forza to ape from GT( other than it's stellar lighting model) would be a fundamentals trainer. Teach us the basics of the apex, proper braking and shifting in/out of corners, walk through manipulating tire temperature on different cars (especially cars with high dependence on temp like F1), etc. I don't remember GT getting too in the weeds either, but the licencing tests have instructional value.

GRAN TURISMO SPORT: CREATOR KAZUNORI YAMAUCHI TALKS SOUND, STEERING WHEELS, AND SHIFTING GEARS.

The developers sound super passionate, and IGN sound impressed!

Sony developers 'get' colour pallets and tone unlike any others. They look so much more true to life than anything the competition offers, even on PC.

I actually think the colors are dark and oversaturated. At least just from the videos.

Probably on my HDR set, it'll look amazing.

Gran Turismo Sport has a new release date, and this one's for keeps. Maybe.

Originally planned for release last November, the series has since stuck to its traditional penchant for delays, being pushed back to this year. And now we have a day - October 18th - when we can play developer Polyphony Digital's PS4 debut.

Gran Turismo Sport debuted last May, and didn't look too impressive upon its reveal. Great strides have been made since, with a closed beta showing how much progress has been made, and the fresh emphasis placed on online racing could well help give the series a refresh. Will it be enough to see off competition from Project Cars 2 and Forza Motorsport 7, both of which are also releasing later this year? Only time will tell.

Gran Turismo Sport Special Editions Detailed

Announced by Kazunori Yamauchi himself alongside the new October release date, GT Sport has a few special editions available for eager fans to pre-order. We’ve got the full rundown of all the perks right here.

North America Special Edition Details
In North America, players will have the option of the GT Sport Limited Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition. The additions on top of the vanilla game are listed below.

Gran Turismo Sport Limited Edition – $69.99 ($89.99 CAN)
  • GT Sport Starter Pack (8 Cars)
  • $1MM In-Game Credit
  • Livery Sticker Pack
  • 30 GT Sport Themed Avatars
  • Chrome Racing Helmet (For Driver Profile)

Gran Turismo Sport Digital Deluxe Edition – $79.99 ($99.99 CAN)
  • GT Sport Starter Pack (12 Cars)
  • $2MM In-Game Credit
  • Livery Sticker Pack

I've had the Special Edition pre-ordered for a while but ended up canceling it today actually. Think I'll wait until closer to release to see what the single player will actually include.

So it looks like it's still not a true campaign and just trials and such?

I have seen no mention of any AI or any other offline type activity other than stuff like that. I would only buy this game as a mostly online experience. Unless they announce something huge soon it seems to be a mostly online focused game.

I'm definitely not preordering, but might still be interested. The only hope is that as an online only game, it will keep the competition a little more serious. For a game with both SP and MP, people who only care about SP can still go online and troll everyone else. For a game like this hopefully they never even buy it.

I have no option to play online. This game can go to hell along with whoever decided to design the game to be this way

Polyphony over-specced Gran Turismo Sport for future 8K consoles

https://www.finder.com.au/gran-turismo-8k-playstation-5

As I write this, I am sitting in the opulent lobby of developer Polyphony Digital’s Tokyo headquarters. I’ve just enjoyed a lengthy, in-depth studio tour, an interview with Kazunori Yamauchi and a tonne of hours playing the game. It’s due out on October 13 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive and it’s a lot of fun. Over the coming week, I will be passing a heap of new information your way, including this interesting tidbit about the scale of rendering the art team is doing.

During the studio tour, Kazunori Yamauchi took us from desk to desk, showing his staff beavering away on the game and the insane amount of detail the team goes to make the experience authentic. It’s really quite insane. At one particular desk, he zoomed right in on the wheel of a car to show the small-type – like the PSI – was in place and legible. A ridiculous detail given you’ll never notice at 300km/h flying down from the heights of Mount Panorama. Then he said the following: "It takes six months to create a single car. It’s over-specced for PS4 Pro. So we are building for future versions of the console rather than the one we see today".

Intrigued by the suggestion that Gran Turismo Sport is being built to work on a theoretical PlayStation 5, whenever it might eventuate, during our one-on-one I asked Kazunori Yamauchi to clarify that comment. He replied, “I think it would be no problem to run it at 8K even.”

I’m not sure if it is standard practice for developers to create assets so over the specification of the current format as Polyphony Digital is with Gran Turismo Sport. However, I do find it intriguing that Kazunori Yamauchi would openly reference a future console and that Gran Turismo Sport is being built in a way that it can naturally exist in an 8K environment. Is he referring to a hypothetical PS5? Is he referring to a PS5 he knows exists and is targeting 8K? Does he know of a PS4 Super Pro (or something) coming out in the near future?

Adding further intrigue is Kazunori Yamauchi reveal in May 2016 that Gran Turismo 6 was the last of the first generation of games in the series and that Gran Turismo Sport is the first of the next generation. Perhaps Gran Turismo Sport is in for the long haul.

Tough crowd. GAF appears to be pumped for GT Sport. I guess you have to be a true fan of the series to realize it's potential though. The real driving simulator. No words have ever been more true when marketing a game.
