Gran Turismo Sport Official Thread

Perhaps wishing to avoid confusion with the "full" release?

Wouldn't that just benefit PD if people were confused this was the new GranTurismo? "Oh look, the new GT game! Sold." Clearly the name alone sells copies considering how piss poor the last 2 versions have been.

I'd say the gaming climate today is such that devs can't handle early bad press and gamer talk. Bad talk is viral wildfire that can scar a product before it is released. Take a game like Drive Club, even though it mended most all of its issues, it never has overcome its association with negative verbs.

Gran Turismo Sport Aims for 60 FPS, Features Damage and Weather Effects

Gran Turismo Sport may not be the full-on sequel fans of the series are hoping for, but it will features things like weather and damage, despite being absent from a recent demonstration of the game.

Franchise boss Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that both of those will be present in Sport in a new interview with Game Watch (via DualShockers). He said developer Polyphony has already been working on a damage system for Sport, but that it wasn't available in the version of the game used at this week's reveal event in London. That explains why the brief tournament played following the game's reveal didn't see any of the cars getting smashed up.

Likewise, weather is also planned for Sport, though Yamauchi indicated there are plans to stray away from a dynamic system in favor of offering weather conditions as a pre-match option.

He also identified 1080p and 60 FPS as Polyphony's targets for the game while admitting there are currently some frame rate issues in the current, unfinished version of Sport. As is to be expected, he didn't address the prospect of an improved version of the game for the enhanced version of PS4 that's rumored to be on the way.

Sounds like they are aiming for a similar weather style as Forza 6.

Gran Turismo Sport is Gran Turismo 7 after all

Despite them saying otherwise before

Digital Spy reports:

You remember when Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital said Gran Turismo Sport wasn't Gran Turismo 7? Yeah, we do too. But apparently that's now not the case.

Speaking during a round table attended by Digital Spy at the Gran Turismo Sport unveiling, Polyphony confirmed that the game could have been called Gran Turismo 7 after all.

"The reason we called it Gran Turismo Sport was that we really wanted to incorporate the FIA events," explained Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

"Thinking about it now, yeah, we could have called it Gran Turismo 7. But it's got so many features, we wanted it to be different."

So there you go. It is actually Gran Turismo 7 but with a new Gran Turismo Sport name.

With only 137 cars?.... I... Wtf? That's not even Need for Speed numbers is it?

Its more then double the standard need for speed numbers (50ish).
I thought the thew ones had something like 200.

Ah, that's right, I'm remembering the s***-storm conjured up when Forza 5 (a launch title) came out because it only had 200 cars.

Yeah i remember praise for F5 as its a great title that performs great.

Yeah, denial is fun. Sorry, if you weren't aware of all of the content complaints for Forza 5 then I don't know what to say to you. It WAS still a quality racer though, and it can still be a quality game, but that doesn't save the disappointment.

You obviously have selective memory. Making excuses for a lackluster selection after so many years of development is silly.

You need that selection because you have better odds of getting a car you want. It's always been thus for these sim racers- that's why the GT boys always loved to crow about having a thousand cars even if 80 of them are skylines- and why F5 was dogged for it's selection (along with removal of tracks). It's even why some reviewers docked points.

Personally, even I was dissapointed by F5's list of, what, 210-220 it launched with. The excuse back then was it was a launch title and every car / track had to be remade. That argument can't really be made for a release so far into the life cycle. But hey, I get it, it's a Sony exclusive.

Selective memory eh? I know here @ The Union it got nothing but praise(so did Ryse lol) So where was this criticism you are talking about?
I don't care about what GT boys say.
Over 100 cars IF the racer plays good is plenty for me and some others no matter how ya slice it.

But Back 2 what I said.... A racers quality is decided by having the most cars now lol?
I'd love for you to quote where I said the quality is decided by the number of cars. Deflect much? I simply said it's a disappointing number and quite low for a racer of this type as well as an area of contention for other racers. Can't point that out though without el Capitan SDF springing to the rescue.

137 IS a very low number for GT, especially since the high number of cars has always been a major bullet point for the series. Let's hope they at least redid all the audio for them.

Seems to be reaching.

You are talking to a guy who claimed Forza 5 wasn't a A A A game.

Personally, the 200 cars in Forza 5 was a downer, but it was the tracks that disappointed most. However, it was a launch game.

This game is not a launch game. It looks like a re-master of GT6, and it only has 100 odd cars. I have no clue how any GT fan can not be super disappointed by these things.

Gran Turismo used to be a name synonymous with quality, top end visuals, and more cars than any other franchise. Nowadays it is a mixed bag, and this latest effort looks to be the worst yet.

Car counts and track counts were only a big glaring issue when Forza 5 came out IIRC. Then reality came crashing down when Drive Club adjusted everyone elses opinion drastically and here again, not shocking. This is acceptance stage.

I'd rather have more tracks than not. I usually end using like 10 cars in racing games so I don't need a list of 32852835 of them.

You need all them cars so everyone can find something they like. Options. I completely agree about the tracks. I'd even take old gen versions (of tracks) GT style until they can update them, lol . Lighting can go a long way to prettying up a scene.

Wow, lot's of crying over this. Just shows how little people care about game-play which is what is improved by a solid 60fps. It hurts my brain to see people in the comments lauding the mediocre-as-hell Drive Club because it has Dynamic weather at the expense of HALF THE FRAMERATE and image quality and with shoddy physics :p They created their own monster though, with the always 1080p fervor.

Comments like "Dynamic weather in this generation shouldn't be that hard to implement should it?" make me laugh.

After all the discussion that's been had over graphics, you'd think the concept of give/take regardless of power wouldn't be so completely lost. Smh.

Funniest comment is, "Project CARS raises the bar, Gran Turismo and Forza move sideways." Not only was Project CARS a s*** show in terms of performance, but Forza actually takes wet weather beyond any other game.

Yeah a game with lots of delays and then took over a year after release to get where it is now

FH2 is still the best racer this gen.

Despite the hate I still expect this to sell well

It will sell well...it is Gran Turismo. However, I don;t think it will sell any where near as much as GT 5. I think it might be closer to GT 6's 5-6 million.

As for FH2...It is a quality game, but it is a very different racer than GT or Forza Motorsport.

The entitlement generation at work.
