Gran Turismo Sport Official Thread

Sony pls. Out of any beta I've signed up for this is one I actually want to play and can provide feedback on. Always been a big fan of the series since the days of GT1 when I had to sneak into my brother's room while he was away just to be able to play. I think he was just afraid I'd get good and beat him.

Nice. Can't wait to play the pinnacle of racing sims. Gran Turismo is taking the crown back.

Funny how long it took SDF to even admit they lost the crown. Some still refuse to admit but that is laughable fanboyism.

They are finally going to add some checkmarks that the enemy has been using for the past 10 years so I'll give them at least a sporting chance to pull even.

It took way too long for me to figure out what SDF meant. Been a while since I've heard that term. Guess when you're winning so long you forget about that sort of thing.

Damn! The graphics look so good.

I just watched a video of GT3 from the PS2 days, and it's amazing how has changed, let alone how much we take for granted!

GT3 was my fav racing game for years, and I was never any good at it. Lol.

I could barely pass the licence tests, and I hate taking my finger off the pedal.

Nothing.

Yeah, it does look pretty good. The main car, the red Ferrari looked a little plastic at times. I would rather see game play though. I assume this is NDA?

Yes. Right now they can only publish replays and screen caps.

Seems Europe got favoritism for beta invites but they are still sending out invites so there is still hope!

Well, even though I think America has a great passion for racing (including myself), I think Europe has us beat. At least in gaming. Their charts always have games like Forza or GT in their top sales year round. Maybe Europe is more passionate and my American bias gets in my way.

As much as I want to play it, I hope not. Still too much to play at this point.

Some videos surfacing, looks amazing!

Looks great! That lighting model continues to be top notch. The sounds though, damn... Why can't they get that right?

After trying out Project Cars, I am a bit hesitant to leave my Forza bubble. I haven't played GT since GT 3...

I want to see what the driving physics are like. It can look like Drive Club, but if it drives like Drive Club.... no thanks.

I like how it shows you target points on the track. It is impossible to tell if the driving model is bad or just the driver. I'm pretty sure that person is just terrible which is why things look so twitchy.

Agreed. Here are some gameplay vids. 1 cockpit and 1 trail cam.

Thanks for posting those. Graphically, it looks great but it looks typical for this gen. I also like the timer, as I am a huge fan of Tag Heuer :)

  • I noticed more cars and people track side, making the game feel more immersive
  • I loved the selection of cars used in the video above. I am biased, so will be using that Mustang for sure
  • I prefer cockpit view of course, but the third person view in the second video has a nice improved HUD from previous GT's I love the hud layout
  • GT seems to have problems removing that twitch. I guess I don't understand why it isn't gone. I wonder if it's just how games work because of hand movements on the sticks?
  • I am at work so I couldn't turn up volume to hear how the game sounds
  • The main screen menu looks nice. I wonder if DEMO is really this beta, but we will eventually get a demo? I assume the final game won't have a demo menu icon?
  • Track looks like a GT track. Perfect track and perfect color with no imperfections. I would love to see their tracks have an even more natural look to them.
  • I looked for pop-in with the trees and saw none. Nice.

Agree that it looks good. From my computer it is hard to tell if there is a meaningful gap between this and say Forza 6. You probably won't be able to really appreciate it until you see it on a 4K running on a PS4 Pro.

The only negative that sticks out to me is the ugly trees.
they look fine in pre-race scenes. But in motion, it looks like they have two sets of shading/shadows and the transition is very noticeable.

But overall looks good. And very GT.

Yeah. Forza Does the same thing where once you are in line with one of the planes, it fades the perpendicular one. The difference here is it looks like the cross plane casts a shadow on the other (where in Forza it only casts on the ground), making it's fade out more noticeable.

It's looking better than Gran Turismo HD at least. Watched Sony's 2006 E3 for a laugh last night. That was when the series went downhill. What were they thinking?

Only had time to check out a couple laps at Brands Hatch. Used the Hyundai Genesis which is offered for the lowest tier, at least right now. Also available are the VW Scirocco (tuned) and another VW that I think is part of the GT Vision program. Not sure how often cars change. Anyways just did a time trial to get a feel for it, as I haven't played GT6 since early 2014 probably, but the game felt good. Car had a nice heavy weight to it which is probably my biggest issue when it comes to racing games. I would imagine once it is tuned or higher rated cars the steering would open up a bit but either way it felt good. And again only one car but sounded better than the vacuum cleaners we are used to. I was thinking about jumping into GT6 again so it's odd I get invited into the beta at this time but I'll check it out some more in the coming days.
