Gran Turismo Sport Official Thread

Working my way through the single player stuff again now that I finished Horizon 3. I like the addition of the new career mode and it indeed adds to the game length. Other than getting trophies/miles after finishing each race, you don't get anything, even after finishing a series. I would have hoped they would unlock a car for you after completing each series. I know it was a game add on, but it doesn't seem to hard to implement. Not to mention, I have finished 2 of those series already, but it still has the NEW notification on the series squares that I complete. So that seems like a bug or not quite thought out.

Also, no shake of the windshield wipers and cars never get dirty. Seems trivial, but a small oversight.

This game is night and day better than it was when it came out 6 months ago.

Have been feeling like buying this lately. Definitely keeping an eye out for a sale.
I think its been on and off some really good sales. At least in the UK I saw it was on a forum. Probably over now. If you do, you can add friends to the game to see each others activity. Add me if you do.

Did my first "Endurance", which came up in section 5 of the mission challenges. It was 15 laps, and I was using a Nissan GTR. My hands were sweating, but it felt so good. You start at the way back with the race being already under way. It look me all 15 laps to get a couple hundreds yards behind the first place car. I was happy with 2nd place.

There are a lot of games out there, and I feel like I have played many of the best ones (on console)...and I know racing games get the shaft in graphic awards....but I don't care what anyone says, this is the sexiest, best looking game I have ever played. Fun isn't about graphics, but this has both. I finished Forza 7 campaign and I "enjoyed it a lot", but I think I am enjoying this game more. The Mission Challenges, Circuit Experience, newly added GT League career and Driving School all are giving me a sense of accomplishment as I go through them.

My only complaint really is a sense of speed. Most of the cars I have used feel very heavy, and feel like a "boat" at times. I changed from cockpit view to hood view, and the sense of speed is much better, and oddly enough, I race MUCH better. I prefer seeing the cockpit, but during one race, there were hills, and my car had a big hood, and I couldn't see what was coming up very well (probably just like real life), so I switch to hood view for the rest of that race, and I liked how it felt.

I normally always use cockpit view in racing games, but for GTS I have to use that front bumper cam. The visibility is really tough in this game in cockpit mode.

I splurged and got myself a Logitech G29 for PS4 so I am jumping back into this. Had some Amazon credit burning a hole in my pocket. I have pretty much played the heck out of Forza 7 and want to switch over to this. As odd as it sounds, both games are actually quite different.

Yes, they are very different. If you put a casual gamer behind each, they probably wouldn't notice or appreciate the differences. Both are different but good in their own way.

I would get a wheel, but I don't have space for it in my condo. When we move, I am going to move up to a wheel for sure.

I was also in a car in GTS recently, and the make is not coming to me a the moment, but it didn't have an interior view. I thought that was a bit odd.

Also, GTS gets best racing game graphics:

Team VVV Racing Game of the Year Awards 2018: Best Graphics
https://www.teamvvv.com/en/news/comments/Team-VVV-Racing-Game-of-the-Year-Awards-2018-Best-Graphics

It's fair to say we were absolutely spoiled with racing games in 2017, in what was a landmark year for the genre. In the space of just one month, we witnessed three contenders from major franchises jostle for position in a spectacular race to the finish line. After a long four year wait, Gran Turismo made its belated debut on PS4 with the release of the online eSports-focused Gran Turismo Sport, but it faced stiff competition from its Xbox rival franchise. Forza Motorsport 7 boasted the most comprehensive car selection of any racing game released this generation, as well as crisp 4K graphics and a new, more engrossing career mode.

Taking on these two racing game goliaths was Slightly Mad Studios’ racing simulation Project CARS 2. As the least established IP, Project CARS 2 was the ambitious underdog with huge potential, promising to be most authentic racing simulation ever made with a diverse variety of racing disciplines, an innovative dynamic weather system, and an unrivalled track selection. Annual licensed games such as MXGP 3, MotoGP 17, WRC 7, and F1 2017 also all saw significant improvements that elevated them above typical incremental updates, while futuristic racing fans were treated to the long-awaited comeback of the WipEout series with the release of WipEout: Omega Collection.

You can view the full list of nominations for the Team VVV Racing Game of the Year Awards 2018 here.

Best Graphics
Racing games are often seen as a benchmark for game graphics. From meticulously modelled cars, to eye-pleasing environments and ultra-realistic weather effects, racing games have supplied us with plenty of graphical goodness over the years. 2017 was no exception, particularly with first-party titles utilising the more powerful PS4 Pro and Xbox One X to deliver unparalleled visual fidelity running in 4K and 60fps.

And the nominations are:

Forza Motorsport 7

Once again, Forza Motorsport 7 dazzled players with visuals that showcased the extra horsepower of the Xbox One X hardware, with beautiful graphics running at native 4K and 60 fps. Even on a 1080p TV, the fidelity on display in Forza Motorsport 7 is stunning, with impeccably detailed car models, realistic weather effects and lighting, and environments that look photorealistic at times thanks to high-quality textures - particularly in the new Dubai circuit.

WRC 7

Visually, WRC 7 was a significant step up from its predecessor with improved lighting that brought the environments to life in contrast to the sterile user-generated tracks in DiRT 4, and richly detailed trackside foliage and objects. It was also much better optimised on consoles, running at a consistently smooth frame rate unlike previous games in the series.

F1 2017

While DiRT 4 was graphically inferior to DiRT Rally, F1 2017 is a commendable technical achievement. It may not be as visually striking as other games released in 2017, but the game runs at 4K and 60fps on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X putting it on par with the PC version, which is no small feat considering it has to render a full grid of 20 cars.

Project CARS 2

Project CARS 2 looks phenomenal at times but it doesn’t look as polished as its predecessor. This can probably be attributed to the game’s advanced LiveTrack 3.0 technology bringing dynamic time of day and weather effects, which unsurprisingly puts a strain on the hardware. Nevertheless, Project CARS 2 is still visually impressive, particularly when you consider that it runs at 60fps despite being a multi-format title unlike its rivals.

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe looks spectacular on the Nintendo Switch and is an excellent showcase of the hardware. Its vibrant environments make the visuals pop, the driver animations are incredibly detailed, and the game runs at a buttery smooth frame rate without a hitch. What's most impressive, however, is that there are no noticeable compromises when playing the game in Handheld mode other than a reduction in resolution to 720p – it makes Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS look primitive by comparison. The novelty of playing a console-quality Mario Kart game in the palm of your hands simply never wears off.

Winner: Gran Turismo Sport

GT%20Sport%20Mercedes%20AMG%20SLS.jpg

Gran Turismo has always set the graphical benchmark for console racing games, and Gran Turismo Sport is no exception. Running in glorious 4k resolution at 60 fps, the game looks absolutely spellbinding in motion, with detailed environments and phenomenally realistic lighting that outshines the competition.

Mercifully, Polyphony scrapped the old low-resolution standard models from past Gran Turismo titles and rebuilt every car from scratch, resulting in remarkably realistic car models built with 4K assets that the developer claims can be used for the next 10 years. Put simply, Gran Turismo Sport is easily the best-looking racing game currently available on console, and a well-deserved winner of the Best Graphics award.

---------------------------------

Though the game isn't native 4K and isn't using 4K assets. It is 1800p checkerboard.

Hmm Amazon has this for like $35 right now....

GTS is a good game, it just is different. It departs from the standard.

I wasn't interested in online racing, but GTS sort of pushed me into it in a good way.

Now too they've added a lot more single player stuff than came at launch.

Don't blame me if you don't like it. Praise me if you do. :)

Pretty much the reason I ended up not buying it at launch. Now with more single player stuff I'll get into it. And maybe I'll give multiplayer a shot as well.

Definitely give online a chance. Before this game I would rarely even try online as people usually just go full demolition derby.

While the system in GTS has issues, it does more often than not give you a pretty clean racing experience. There's usually a daily race that's a lower end car with no tuning or anything that is easily accessible. It also "ghosts" players very quickly on the lower levels so someone divebombs into a corner full speed, they game will not let them make contact with anyone.

Gotta love Amazon free shipping when there is a distribution center nearby. Wasn't supposed to be here until end of next week but just shipped yesterday and scheduled for tomorrow. I have Prime but I'll take the free credit.

Got my G29 in the mail yesterday and I really like it. At first I was horrible with it (been a long time without a wheel, think my last wheel was X360). I'm getting adjusted now and I have a lot more respect for the driving physics in GTS. I tried the Pcars2 demo too and that felt awful wiht a controller but a wheel is completely different.

My big problem now is setup. I've got the wheel on a sturdy TV tray but it isn't great. I really don't have the room for a permanent setup and want something I can quickly fold up.

I had a wheel back on the 360 (official wheel) but it was terrible. Think I tried two or three and all of them had centering issues. Just like the damn 360 controller with drifting issues on the stick lol.

Am I just missing something? I just got my first win ever (thank you, thank you) on todays Daily Race A in those Honda Civics. Are you not allowed to bring over your custom liveries to the sport mode? Eveeyone was either black or white wtf?!

Also, when are we getting chat during the races? Let people opt out if they don't want to hear it but man Polyphony, put it in the game!

Going through the driving test stuff right now. Only did like 5 yesterday. Meant to go back to play some more but never got to it. Took a quick gander at the car list and unless more are unlocked... yeesh. Being used to 2385738 Honda Civics in a GT it's a little shock to see so few cars. Not a huge issue though as there are typically only a few cars I use in a game anyways.

Now that was funny :)

You will find that GT Sport is very generous at rewarding you with cars. After completing each of the driving school sections, after each mission challenge section, after "X" number of miles each day you log in.

They have the new Honda NSX and Toyota Supra so I'm good. Plus having real Porsches instead of RUF is nice as well.

lol page in Japanese. I clicked on the blue button and I went through to my account?

Still working on gold for the driving tests. Think I'm through like 15 or so.
Gold isn't in my vocab right now. I will be happy to finish the game. I am getting a gold here and there though.

I have no chance of getting gold on everything. Some of those quick tight turning things on the infield are really hard. Also dirt track racing can go away as far as I'm concerned. Wish we had an option to turn it off.

Yea I've only done like three or four of the advanced portion or whatever its called, so I imagine the difficulty will ramp up at some point.

Just finished the campaign, woo hoo! Now I am just going to tie up loose ends, like the Circuit Experience and their DLC. So far I am still loving this game.
