Guess PS4's 2018 console exclusive game line-up

I thought they killed kinect?

They did...but hedons just casting light on how seemingly kinect exclusives didnt count last gen, but VR games seemingly do now, despite the former being a more popular device.

I once counted in 2013 an apparently the Kinect v1 had 80 games not on any other platform up to the start of this generation. That might not sound impressive in a vacuum, but when compared that PS3 up to the same point had 160....its interesting.

We saw the same heelturn with indies, which were previously unimportant between 2006-August 2013, when for no reason at all they became more important then AAA games.

Did they not count? Or did they just suck? I wouldn't compare Kinect games to VR games.

The number of exclusives should not matter at all if the don't appeal to you. Excluves only really count if you care about them. In any meaningful way, anyway...

Yeah, we were told they did not count. I mean 35 million units later (5 million alone sold in just 3 months, stand alone) and 7 years later (was discontinued in October of this year). Kinect is an add-on to the console offering you an interactive experience to games, just like VR is. Both are gimmicks, both Kinect and VR are costly, both offer exclusive games, both happen to be from competing consoles, both require the gaming console to operate. Why would VR titles be able to be considered exclusives, and not Kinect titles? It can't be because it sucks, because the average PSVR game is a 63 on metacritic. Unless of course metacritic doesn't count this week. Both have sold millions, unless of course sales don't count.

So what are the rules for games that count or don't count as exclusives. Do we just make up rules as we go along? Xbox One has just had 100 exclusives indie titles released in the past 3 months. What is the reason for them not counting? Do Move games not count? What is the reason for them not counting? Do games with cartoony characters not count?

Who makes up the rules as to what counts and what doesn't? I have scoured the web and I can't find any resource on this matter.

And I agree, the number shouldn't matter if they don't appeal to you. NO game should matter that doesn't appeal to you.

Dunno. Me personally i think its hard to recommend Driveclub VR over Super Mario Galaxy because waggle.

Whenever someone brought up the quality of those kinect games i'd ask if they can name the PS3 exclusives that had a better metascore than Dance Central 3 that released between 2012 and 2013.

The Last of Us was always the only answer.

Let's keep the discussion about whether Kinect or indies "count" out of this thread. Fine to debate whether PSVR titles "count" as exclusives, but the topic is PS4, not Xbox, and it's not a console war discussion thread, so keep that nonsense out.

Anyone with half a brain knows that what "counts" depends on the counter, and people have all kinds of fanboy agendas that they bring to these discussions. I personally find the arguments about "what counts" childish, because of this -- and because of the invariable passive-aggressive whining about ""they said that didn't count for my team, so why does it count for your team." So annoying. There are no authoritative rules on what "counts" and what doesn't. It depends on who's doing the counting.

Scores of PSVR titles, too, but I guess we're not counting those.

But anyway...

I totally agree. And I stated that PSVR titles should count, just like any game available on the console should count. So for the record at Union, we should say every game matters....just like every life matters.

That wasn't an argument, just a statement, and more importantly, it wasn't engaging in what I was objecting to -- the console warrioring about "that didn't count for us, so it shouldn't count for you" stuff.

Besides, as I said, talking about whether PSVR titles "count" as PS4 exclusives is appropriate here. That's the topic of the thread and the subforum. Kinect and Xbox and list wars from last generation are not. Those never lead anywhere -- they are filled with broad generalizations about what "they" (whoever "they" is) said, fanboy agendas, etc.

I don't think so (about games, I mean). I am not sure whether PSVR titles should "count" or not. It's part of PS4, and yet, only 3% of PS4 owners have a PSVR. It's kind of a separate platform -- or at least, it's a machine that requires a significant outlay, beyond the base console.

And even if PSVR games "count," not all of them (or even most of them) should, for these purposes. We need to be a little more discriminating than that. It's best to restrict it to significant or substantial games. Maybe that applies to 10% of the PSVR catalog? (I'm guessing) Otherwise you're just padding the list with a bunch of junk no one has ever heard of or cares about. No point in that. Same goes for PS4 games in general -- you don't include every single one, down to the trivial indies. I wouldn't, anyhow.

Well, IMO, whether or not you personally feel a PSVR game is junk, or is or isn't substantial doesn't mean that someone else might think they are not junk and think they are substantial. That is where I see the problem...allowing your opinion, or perception of a game, determine whether or not a game is "padding" a line up. I guarantee a developer isn't tossing together a PSVR to pad a line up. Their ultimate goal is to create a highly rated, high selling game. Take Dying Reborn, which got a 38 at metacritic. What if a gamer fell in love with that game, found it to be of great quality, long term replayability, great value. That game will "pad" his or her own list of exclusives as to why he or she bought the console to begin with. You and I might think it is junk or not substantial. But our feeling about it don't make the rules.

I have been on record to state that ALL games count because there is nothing out there that says they can't be counted. You and I know first hand that less expensive games get the shaft, and that is part of the problem these days. Games like Oure for example. Just because it's artistic, or indie and costs less than $60 or doesn't get a 90+ on metacritic shouldn't be a "padder".

So you'd have a thread about predicting the upcoming 2018 lineup to include every single indie and PSVR title, no matter how insignificant? That would be a boring, ungainly mess. And you'd be lumping games like Spiderman with minor indies/VR titles, as if they were equivalent. That doesn't make sense.

As for which game is substantial/significant, and which game isn't -- well, that's a matter of opinion/judgment. It's also just common sense. Some games are bigger, more important, more anticipated, more well-known, more significant, than others.

You and I might think it is junk or not substantial. But our feeling about it don't make the rules.

What rules? There are no rules.

What games count is a console war thing. This topic has nothing to do with console wars so I don't get the discussion.

We could have a non-console warrior discussion about whether PSVR titles should be included in a list of major PS4's exclusives for 2018.

My opinion is, probably not -- or at least, they should be in a separate category or subcategory. We probably shouldn't include games that only 3% of PS4 owners have access to.

Mod intrusion: Let this be the last word (in this thread) on the subject of PSVR vs. Kinect. See post 66 for why.

The metacritic scores for Kinect and PSVR are padded to the negative. That's not a fair assessment. Lots of short experiences that get blasted and weigh it down, I'm actually surprised its that high. The difference is PSVR has had some unbelievably good hardcore games and it just came out a year ago. Following up to that, it has versions of games that feel completely different, superhot for example. Kinect was more of add on support, no transformative like an RE7 or Skyrim, it just didn't have the technical abilities to transport a person to another world, you're still staring a flat screen.

Since Kvally declared that metacritic counts now we all need to bow down to the system with the best games. The Playstation Vita

Man, it's almost like identity politics is bulls*** ;)

I'll let everyone else speculate for now but you think Dreams and Shenmue 3 will make 2018? You're bold, lol.

Still going to hold off on predicting the lineup but i do have a hot take for ya. PS4 will have more than one 90 rated exclusive in 2018. Not really a revelation when you have the best studios in the world, but there it is anyway.

Mod intrusion: deleted reference PSVR vs. Kinect. See posts above.

I just hope all I'm interested in release in 2018.

Detroit:Become Human
Spider-man
Days Gone
Last of Us 2
WILD

And that Ghost of Tushima seems interesting, but need more details.

God of War 4
Shadow of the Colossus remake

That is my list right now, and they look awesome!

The Q&A was clearly done before things have been officially agreed it. We haven't heard anything about a PC version since the Q&A which funnily enough has been taken down I believe. I think there won't be a PC version, they won't announce it is cancelled they will just ignore it and sweep it under the rug so to speak.

TLOU2 and GOT won't. The rest should make it but WILD could easily fall to 2019 as we have heard nothing since 2016.

Wasn't expecting GOT to be honest.

What makes you so sure about TLOU?

I take it WILD is Playstation's Below:sad:

They need more time and I honestly cannot see Days Gone and TLOU releasing in the same year. God of War started development in 2014. Days Gone in 2013 I think, Detroit in 2014 and Spider-man in 2014 whilst TLOU will have started in 2015 earliest and I know ND are the biggest studio and efficient as hell but they also put out Lost Legacy.

It looks like a lot of unrealistic optimism with the release dates. One of the best things about Sony’s 1st party is they only release games when they’re ready. They won’t push something out to make a deadline. The worst thing they do is show games way too early which creates unrealistic expectation expectations for release dates. It would be no shock to see Death Stranding and Last of Us 2 to be PS5 launch titles.

Would be extremely surprised to see Spider-Man in 2017. What they showed at E3 last year was highly scripted and linear for an open world game. I don’t think they are that close.

I project this year is God of War, Dreams and Detroit. Of which I’m highly anticipating Getting of War.
