To put the gameplay in campaign into perspective: The team was running an encounter test in the Halo 4 engine with prototype models. This encounter featured several hundreds of Brutes with 2 Scarabs, 10 wraiths and several ghosts and banshees fightin against one Forerunner War Sphinx and some Prometheans. Now the player could engage in that battle or just simply watch them fight (Power of the Cloud: AI in short distance to chief is process on the box; rest in the cloud) and pick off the remaing forces. Well the current player chose to engange, took his Hornet and landed it on one of the Scarabs ( the AI is amazing, the Brutes had now to choose who to fight, most forces fought against the Prometheans, a few took on the fight with chief; it really looks and feels like every single AI makes smart and menaingfull decisions)) The Player killed of the crew on the Scarab and well, thise time he doenst destroy the Core, he gets behind the wheel of the Scarav ;) All hell breaks loose, brute forces more and more engage the rogue Scarab, while the Prometheans dont really difference their enemies. And yep the Scarabs is destroyed withing seconds , thought the Player surived thanks to god-mode. Those are the kinds of encounter you will find in the final game.

YESS. I think Halo 5 will be the first game to show the power of the cloud. !!! Awesome :D

This helps AI-heavy games like Forza or Halo a lot. It's basically a way of making every single SP games an MP match, except that the players are not players but controlled by AI. All the complex calculations for each movement are done in the server and the box gets the movement data only.

+ it free's up alot of processing power on X1. I think in a year we'll se alot of games "optimised for the cloud". :D

That sounds intense. Can't wait to see this game and the power of the cloud.

"Several hundred AI'

lol and guerilla was bragging about have 24 AI, well see how this really pans out though, didn't 343i claim 60fps too?

This is the way X1 was ment to be. Always online, I think, and hope, it will happen for many games :)

Cool, especially if this means freeing the hardware for visual & better fps.

Halo Escalation comic teases Halo 5 plot details

http://www.totalxbox.com/75388/halo-escalation-comic-teases-halo-5-plot-details/

"After defeating the Didact, John-117 joined the crew of Infinity . . . but why did he leave?"

What's Master Chief up to nowadays? I suspect that he's reclining on a pile of silken cushions, surfing the Discovery channel and mashing handfuls of grapes against his visor, but Brian Reed may have a better idea. He's the writer of the eighth Halo: Escalation comic, which explores the "secret events that immediately follow the end of Halo 4".

Exercising my intellectual faculties just a little, I think "events that immediately follow the end of Halo 4" may be the same as "events that immediately precede the start of Halo 5". Here's a blurb excerpt, care of Comic Book Resources (thanks, Gameranx): "The Master Chief returns in "The Next 72 Hours: Part 1"! After defeating the Didact, John-117 joined the crew of Infinity . . . but why did he leave? The mystery begins here." Or rather, on 23rd July, when the comic itself goes on sale.

An alleged Halo Xbox One plot summary from last August reads as follows. "In possession of a mysterious data chip, Petty Officer John-117, aka Master Chief, confronts a new battery of challenges and tests in a Herculean effort to stay alive in a galaxy where sentient life is mercilessly hunted." It's likely we'll hear much, much more at E3 - here's Aoife's report on 343's plans for the show.

Very interesting indeed... with that comic releasing in July and obvious connections to Halo 5 I really wonder if we could see the game in 2014 despite other rumors.

Exactly. That is what i was wondering too. If they actually DO bring us Halo 5 at the end of this year, that would be huge.

What if we're getting both, a Halo 5 with Halo 2 Anniversary pack-in? Not likely I know, but it'd be pretty cool if they did.

I really don't know what they're up to...

1. Trailer just calling it 'Halo'
2. 'Next Halo journey in 2014'
3. Rumors of H2A in 2014 and H5 in 2015

... and now that comic - does it make any sense to tease the events of Halo 5 in July when said game is launching in 2015?

Perhaps they're releasing it episodically?

Once again, that plot summary is NOT correct, as Frank O'Connor himself has stated.

Well, Requiem was destroyed at the end of Spartan Ops, which took place 6 mo. after Halo 4s Campaign.

My guess is the Chief was sent to look for the other half of the Device that Halsey has so they can find the location of the other Forerunner technologies. The Hunting of sentient life makes sense as perhaps Forerunner Constructs built to prevent the spread of the flood- which only infect sentient beings.

It will be interesting to if Halsey becomes a villain after the attempted assassination in SpOps.
It will be cool to see how Jul 'Mdama and Osman factor into the story, as the books take so much time to develop them.

Man, so much to consider. With the Human Rebellion, Naomi, and the Sangheli rebuilding. Lots and LOTS to make games/ stories on. I wouldn't doubt if Spartan Thorne gets some air-time as well.

Halo 5 should be awesome, 343 has started the trilogy nicely. Hopefully well see more than the usual Halo tropes, hopefuly some human conflict will be added to the fray via the insurrectionists and even from the ranks of the UNSC itself.
I'm sure just about everyone would love to know the location of all Forerunner tech in the galaxy. I don't think Halsey will become a "villain" per se, I think she's just gonna do what she needs to keep her "children" safe. I think this Halo is going to be about Chief finding his "humanity" and what entanglements he encounters on the way, searching for Halsey, bringing Cortana back, etc...

I don't know... She looked pretty pissed at the end of SpOps.

No doubt she looked pissed, can't blame her. She saves humanity then gets thrown out the airlock. I can't see 343 turning her into a villain, though it would make the story pretty exciting, it'd be like Frankenstein vs. his monster...

Well, she seemed fine up until
Osman told Palmer to eliminate her. Losing her arm didn't help things. They've been really working the grey area with the ethics of it all. She's been villainized for a while in the books, but much of it has been from the viewpoint of Parangosky, Osman, and her crew.

The flip side was her starting to feel remorse and trying to save her Spartan IIs leading up to Halo 4. She obviously cares a lot for them. Then in Halo 4/SpOps they start painting her in a more positive light again. I think it's great that they are putting so many layers on the characters and how they perceive each other.

It's hard to be mad at Halsey because we know that much of what she has done was due to the Guise the Librarian had seeded so long ago, but understandable hatred of her from those that view her as the mad doctor. Ironically none of their hands are clean.

She'd make a dangerous villain, given her intelligence and 'Mdama's Ruthlessness.

Halo 5 Xbox One release date listed by Walmart

http://www.totalxbox.com/75730/halo-5-xbox-one-release-date-listed-by-walmart/

Halo 5, or Halo for Xbox One if you want to go by what Microsoft and 343 Industries are insisting upon calling it, could be up for release this year, despite what Master Chief voice actor Steve Downes is claiming. When exactly this year is still subject to debate, but Walmart appear to be making a couple of (possibly educated) guesses.

The game is now available for pre-order on Walmart, where it says it will ship on the 1st October 2014. Mind you, later on down the page it says that the "pre-release general shooter game" is to be released in December of 2014

If this game does come out this year, It would be HUGE!. I highly doubt it though, and to be honest, I don't know if I really want it to. Halo 4 was released Nov 6, 2012. It just seems like too short a turnaround for a numbered game in the franchise to me. ODST came out soon after Halo 3, but I would hardly want Halo 5 to be another ODST in quality. Not that I hated ODST or anything, but the next game for this franchise really needs to be something special for Xbox One, and not just more of what we've come to expect.

I know Halo 5 would really move some X1's around Christmas, but I hope Microsoft isn't attempting to push it out the door for that reason. Halo 2 anniversary would be better for this year, and then maybe Halo 5 next summer?...you know, when big games SHOULD be released.

Doubt this is real. Halo comes out in September.

Didn't care enough to play 4 so not sure I would bother unless they do a reboot or something.

To this day I don't understand why people take these placeholder dates put forth by retailers seriously.
