3rd paragraph in says enough for me. Though in the same post they do say "new/unexpected directions" & "inviting new players," and at this stage it's impossible for me to know what that means. I can only take my own perspective on the series throughout its history, the developers own words, and fan reaction over the years.

I think it's ignorant to deny fan input in game development. Halo fans by and large want at least a return to a classic art style. The style in the trailer is proof enough that someone in the company thought that was valid input. If the entire look of a game can be influenced, then gameplay conventions can too.
Youcan have all the looks you want based on that trailer. Once a halo player touches the controller and it doesn't play like Halo 5 or a improve version, all Hope's are lost.

I like the designs from Halo 1 best for most things (James Cameron Aliens RIP off ftw!). I think 343i's 'Cheif is the best, though. I hate their Soldier design. I mean... white and red armour? Yeah that's tactical.

I’m gonna take a huge leap of faith and say the people at 343 are fans of halo, if I’m wrong I’ll buy the first person to make that note a chicken dinner, unless your vegan I’ll just buy you water.

As far as I'm concerned Halo 5 WAS a healthy nod to classic halo while evolving the gameplay. If they go backwards from the mobility improvements, then it may not be dead on arrival, but it will underperform.

Remember, I'm only arguing that a royale mode won't be present.
If it still plays like halo 5 with all those thruster pack things, that's all fine.

Agreed. I love the Bungie designed Marines and related universe, I also like 343's direction for the Chief and Spartans, while I detest their soldiers.

I fit in the very unique category of gamer who’s been highly critical and vocal against Halo 5...yet has played over 1500 hours despite crappy internet.

After being on both sides of the argument, my final opinion is 343 needs to make their game. I’m happy for some of the throwback art but aside from that, the next Halo needs to be 100% 343. It’s their only chance to make something unexpected and special. No artist or creative person will make magic if it’s paint by numbers and someone else’s vision.

If we’re to believe the former lead for Halo 4 and 5, the teams biggest stumbling block is that all their potential innovation and evolution of the franchise was halted to try balancing a game classic Halo fans would still accept. It created a Frankenstein that was neither classic nor evolved.

The Halo 5 speed and moves can work beautifully in a game...but they need to tune the enemies, vehicles, some of the weapons and environments for it to work outside of Arena multiplayer. Convenant are overpowered and too easy with the Spartan upgrade. Prometheans are boring bullet sponges. Vehicles are now too slow. Environments need to be more destructible to encourage more use of movement.

If Chief is going to be this explosive super solider, then enemies need to do a better job driving him from cover. Yeah you could play Halo 5 aggressively...but anytime it got a little difficult, you could cheese your way through any checkpoint by staying in cover and whittling away at the enemies health. Enemies didn’t flank. They didn’t get aggressive. They didn’t have regenerating shields so it was fine to pop out for a few shots, regain your shields under cover and continue to repeat.

I think Halo fans need to let go of classic Halo and accept that it died when Bungie got bored of it. It will live on in the MCC collections...assuming they get that collection working as promised.

I’m hoping 343 can create new, more agressive and mobile enemies with advanced AI. Larger, destructible environments. Reinvent the sandbox. It’s time.

If you make the AI that smart you just cut half the players who dont have a learning skills and might be frustrated.

343 cant afford to lose that. That kind of level can be dont on the highest mode after beating the game.

I think you just solve that by having more and more sophisticated behavior as you increase difficulty instead of making them take more damage. They do have to find that perfect game-play loop, though. It can't be easy. I thought 343 did do some good things with making the Hunters more fun to fight than they had been since the first one. They also need to keep improving their Promethean fights, which did get better compared to 4.

I honestly want them to tone down the uber-futuristic stuff like lasers and metal everywhere. Halo is at it's best in the open, "natural" environments with smattering of Tech. They need to open the levels back out more than anything. That probably makes it harder to create great AI though. I wonder if Spencer's talk of using their resources at Microsoft to develop better AI for games will manifest in the new Halo...

Yep. Almost another topic but I’m really hoping for not only advancements to AI, but scalable AI next gen. Hope that to start seeing noticeable difference in AI as difficulties are turned up.

Didn't fable 2/3 claim to scale its difficulty with the player? What that actually meant is anyones guess though. Maybe enemies just did more damage, rather than actually behaving differently.

Halo AI was usually considered very good, but the idea seems to have faded as a talking point and no one from the company seems to mention it anymore. All that comes up are forum/reddit posts about how it sucks in 5 compared to others.

I wonder how much of that is actually directed towards promethean enemies. They really are a different breed. Hope they speak english still, however the AI ends up. It's always been fun to hear both sides talk s*** to each other and give out orders. Or just say weird nonsense with that skull activated.

It’s worse in 5 compared to Halo CE...a game from 2001. I stand strongly by that statement. Initially I wondered if my impression was based on the fact that CE really stood out for its time while I was being too hard on 5. Played though 5 again on a legendary and stand by the fact that if we’re looking at the game from start to finish, it’s AI is below average.

Weird thing is there were parts early on when I thought the AI was going to take a step forward. There was an early section where I heard an Elite yell retreat after I took out some of his buddies and was excited about the potential. Then it dropped off a cliff. I wonder if going to 60 FPS forced them to drop much of what they had planned due to performance issues. Below average isn’t even the best description. It’s wildly inconsistent and in some parts, completely broken.

I'm sure the push for ever better graphics/performance has caused the A.I. to take a back seat. As the game has gotten prettier, it has gotten dumber, and lvls more claustrophobic.

Again, write it down. The MP in this game will be your standard Halo MP. You think after all the b****ing 343 endured with Halo 5's MP that they would create a MP mode that's even further of a departure from standard Halo MP? f*** outta here.

Oh look.

Halo Infinite to be Co-Developed by Halo 5: Forge and Project Spark Studio Skybox Labs

WCCFhaloinfinite.jpg

The recently-announced Halo Infinite is going to be a big project — so big, the Halo masterminds at 343 Industries are bringing in some help. Turns out Infinite will be co-developed by Burnaby, British Columbia-based studio SkyBox Software. SkyBox has some experience with the Halo franchise, having developed Halo 5: Forge. They’ve also co-developed a number of other Microsoft-published titles (Age of Empires II HD, Project Spark) and EA Sports UFC.

Here’s what 343 Industries’ Halo boss Chris Lee had to say about working with SkyBox.
“343 Industries is excited to continue our partnership with SkyBox Labs on Halo Infinite, with their team doing great work across many areas of our project.”
Unsurprisingly, SkyBox’s Shyang Kong is also excited about the team up...
“We have been working closely with 343 Industries on Halo projects for a number of years, and we’re thrilled to be part of this exciting time in Halo’s history.”
This time around SkyBox Labs, which currently boasts over 100 employees, won’t just be working on Forge – they’ll contributing across the board to Halo Infinite’s gameplay, AI, visuals, and networking. Sounds like they may be doing the bulk of the development heavy lifting.

Aside from SkyBox’s involvement, and the fact that the game won’t have a battle royale mode, we don’t know a whole lot about Halo Infinite yet. Here’s the official description:
Master Chief returns in the next chapter of the legendary franchise in Halo Infinite. Developed by 343 Industries and created with the studio’s new Slipspace Engine, Halo Infinite debuted at the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing with a thrilling engine demo that provides a glimpse into the future of the Halo franchise that leads it into new and unexpected directions.
Halo Infinite is coming to PC and Xbox One. A release date has yet to be announced.

Does anyone remember when I said Halo Infinite will be influenced by Fortnite?

I was scoffed at.

When am I going to start getting the credit I'm due? How many more times do I have to be right?!

This is awesome btw. Halo Infinite might get me to pick up a Scarlett over the PS5 next gen. Microsoft consoles haven't been interesting to me since the first XBox. Love this.

PS: The guy in that video is so small minded.

This is from 2016.

"There would also be hub worlds to travel to and they could be traveled to any order. The Infinity would be the main hub world where you travel to these locations."

Feels like this game will be what 343 envisioned halo 5 would've been. Hoping they make this more destiny like in terms of missions and hubs and such.

How exactly is this influenced by Fortnite? Halo has already had, and continues to have post launch Support, customization, and MTs. They also have a ton of free updates and maps.

I agree as to the video. I don't know how these guys think devs can continue to support products without a revenue stream. Nowadays they have teams dedicated to generating more content. I'd love to see how that dude would react if he developed something and people demanded he keep working for free to support and update it it, lol. Bottom line- if you want continuous support, you are going to have to put up with MT being available. Hell, 343i has handled them well in Halo 5, so I'm not too worried.

He also brings up MS and 343i as if Bungie isn't already doing it to the 9th degree.

Need that controversy though.

So wait, 343 wants to turn Halo into Destiny? And didn’t Bungie say they wanted to part ways with MSFT because they wanted to get away from making Halo only to make a Halo wannabe MMO with Destiny, hahahaha.

I know gamers want their games supported. But gamers never asked for the Live Service model to add on top of loot boxes and microtransactions. The Live Service bullsh!t came from the Free to Play model and console publishers are going all in.

If you make a good game it will move serious units. We need no more examples other than to look at the many Sony exclusives which sell extremely well. And most of those games have no loot boxes, microtransactions or online component at all. They are self contained experiences where no one feels cheated or shortchanged.

Gamers should thank the gaming gods for Sony and the Playstation. I swear no one is more surprised than me to say that but its so true. Look at the mess MSFT’s gaming is in right now. They actually went with a hardware revision but forgot the games that show off said hardware. They are like “our remixed console can do 4K and other high quality stuff” and then don’t compel third parties to take advantage of the increased horsepower so third party games look just like the Pro version and in some small cases not even as good.

I guess I too should shoulder some blame for buying into the hype and getting a XBX. Now after all this time into this generation MSFT is buying gaming studios. I wouldn’t say too little too late if all they are thinking about is nextgen but its certainly too late for this generation.

Not sure where you are getting Destiny from... They are probably expanding online and community services- Halo already has those things. You rant is a tad premature, methinks...
