3rd paragraph in says enough for me. Though in the same post they do say "new/unexpected directions" & "inviting new players," and at this stage it's impossible for me to know what that means. I can only take my own perspective on the series throughout its history, the developers own words, and fan reaction over the years.

I think it's ignorant to deny fan input in game development. Halo fans by and large want at least a return to a classic art style. The style in the trailer is proof enough that someone in the company thought that was valid input. If the entire look of a game can be influenced, then gameplay conventions can too.

Think it's safe to say it's just going to be Halo but like Destiny. Which isn't a bad thing, i'm not the biggest Destiny fan but they needed to switch the formula up a bit. I think it will be solid.

I believe in, or maybe more hope for, exactly that. I dislike destiny intensely for a variety of reasons, but it hasn't gotten this far for nothing and its basic gameplay ideas are obviously solid. A large free roaming map with halo's sandbox sounds very fun. It follows the trend of making everything open world, so there's some work to do to keep the concept interesting, as opposed to a game like mgs5 who's open world is often considered lifeless. I very much enjoy playing in the free roam mode, but I do understand the point. Mods make up for it but its definitely a failing of the game.

Back to halo, I would be very interested to see this concept come to life. Like Destiny, you can have this PvAI co-op experience, and the traditional arena multiplayer for pvp, except good. They dipped a little already with halo 5's warzone firefight (a mode I very much enjoy), and firefight in general.

Though for all these words of mine, it's still too early for me to truly speculate on what will actually happen (outside of dev comments that still don't say much). We'll see.

How exactly is this influenced by Fortnite? Halo has already had, and continues to have post launch Support, customization, and MTs. They also have a ton of free updates and maps.

I agree as to the video. I don't know how these guys think devs can continue to support products without a revenue stream. Nowadays they have teams dedicated to generating more content. I'd love to see how that dude would react if he developed something and people demanded he keep working for free to support and update it it, lol. Bottom line- if you want continuous support, you are going to have to put up with MT being available. Hell, 343i has handled them well in Halo 5, so I'm not too worried.

He also brings up MS and 343i as if Bungie isn't already doing it to the 9th degree.

Need that controversy though.

You don't hire an Online Experience Design Director if Fortnite doesn't become the biggest game in the world.

Fortnites shockwaves have been felt throughout the entire industry.

On being asked by fans if Halo Infinite would follow the battle royale trend, Jeff Easterling, a writer at 343 Industries known to the Halo community as Grim Brother One stated otherwise:

"I'll tell you right now, the only BR we’re interested in is Battle Rifle. The original BR. So, calm yourself," he said 55 minutes 55 seconds into the stream."

I told a friend that Halo wasn't going to be BR a while ago. He was concerned. He's a PS gamer who doesn't playe Halo. He was also concerned about Forza lootboxes.

People are always very concerned when it comes to exclusives they don't play. Now it's back to worrying about microtransactions. Because apparently, Halo has always been about microtransactions... ....

Yeah but they are copying Fortnite by adding online play. Everyone knows Fortnite invented online play.

Also it is going to have guns. You know what else has guns? Fortnite. Nuff said.

Considering how customizable halo have been with their mp, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to make a "BR" playlist by yourself. Honestly think I've done that in h3... just a few sliders and such. No dropping out of planes though.

Isn’t that just free-for-all?

I think reach had the most customization of them all, especially for the firefight mode.

Maybe, but we made it so it was basically one shot kill and no respawns, it made for a lot of sneaking around, felt similar to playing pubg today. Also was fun making one player a bit better and with predator camo. Probably the best time I've ever had in a shooter ever... perhaps tied with cod waws war mode, that was a real clusterf*** being in the middle of the zones with nades flying and legs being blown off around you.

War mode. That’s a mode I wish COD would bring back. Loved that mode in WaW.

So wait, 343 wants to turn Halo into Destiny? And didn’t Bungie say they wanted to part ways with MSFT because they wanted to get away from making Halo only to make a Halo wannabe MMO with Destiny, hahahaha.

I know gamers want their games supported. But gamers never asked for the Live Service model to add on top of loot boxes and microtransactions. The Live Service bullsh!t came from the Free to Play model and console publishers are going all in.

If you make a good game it will move serious units. We need no more examples other than to look at the many Sony exclusives which sell extremely well. And most of those games have no loot boxes, microtransactions or online component at all. They are self contained experiences where no one feels cheated or shortchanged.

Gamers should thank the gaming gods for Sony and the Playstation. I swear no one is more surprised than me to say that but its so true. Look at the mess MSFT’s gaming is in right now. They actually went with a hardware revision but forgot the games that show off said hardware. They are like “our remixed console can do 4K and other high quality stuff” and then don’t compel third parties to take advantage of the increased horsepower so third party games look just like the Pro version and in some small cases not even as good.

I guess I too should shoulder some blame for buying into the hype and getting a XBX. Now after all this time into this generation MSFT is buying gaming studios. I wouldn’t say too little too late if all they are thinking about is nextgen but its certainly too late for this generation.

/rant over

Well I still love the X1X, but overall I agree. Really wish they would make the focus of marketing and development an epic single player game, but it feels like MS is just too trendy for its own good.

Really worried about the micro transaction rumors with Halo, please don’t turn into another Anthem lol

As much as I hate the "Live service" and "FTP with loot boxes" model...some of these triple A games are costing so much money to make that the profits they make are suffering as a result. After seeing how games these models produce a constant revenue stream I am totally unsurprised that the industry is going in this direction.

There are already a few BR game types and accompanying maps already.

If they keep the MT's in the same vein as H5 it'll be all good. I thought they were pretty well implemented, not P2W, and strictly cosmetics and buff cards.

I remember being excited when they added sprint and classes.

I don't even necessarily think those options are inherently bad, but it definitely didn't work. Everything from map design, new weapons, and weird balance changes ruined the game. Sprint and classes exacerbated those missteps even more.

They could have added many of those things with restraint if they focused on what made Halo great in the first place.

And for christs sake, we still live in age without BR/DMR starts. LOL.

I disagree about it not being balanced. Halo 4 had some growing pains, but 5 plays beautifully, imo. The campaign was just lackluster (which is a complete shame). The MP is great.

I meant Reach more than 5. Reach had some wonky ass MP.

Halo 5 Mp was good, never got too into it. All my buddies ditched Halo by then.

Last time I threw Halo 5 in I played some big team though. And again with the AR starts. Turned that s*** off right away.

Halo 5 was one of worst games in the series, MP and SP wise. At least Halo 4 SP was OK.

The worst is Halo 3 ODST. Halo 5 is better than that one as well as Halo 4 and Halo Reach.
