so is everyone who owns Halo MCC getting Halo 3: ODST for free or just the people who got it around the time it came out? I seem to remember a date windows to get Halo 3: ODST for free.

If you played Halo: MCC between launch and December 19, you'll get Halo 3: ODST for free.

Halo 3: ODST is here. Just received the code from Xbox Live. Downloading the game now.:bang:

Just got it as well.

343 is very busy today. Lots of awesome going on. :bang:

Reach >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ODST

I was ready to write-off the series after Reach. Halo 4 brought me back.

I don't think I ever gave ODST a fair shake though, I played for maybe an hour tops. Looking forward to trying it out a bit more thoroughly.

oh ok thanks I'll wait till that f***er is a free game for games with gold or something. did not like it much on 360.

It's weird that they hide Halo 3: ODST within Halo 3's campaign menu instead of placing it as a separate game under the main menu's campaign tab.

I was wondering where in the hell it was at!! Thank you for posting this !

It's also available at $4.99 to everyone else on Xbox Live if you're interested.

Yea I almost got fooled as to where it was too. Eventually common sense kicked in and I looked at Halo 3

the f***? that's where it's at? I was looking for it and could not find it. I was going to ask on here where the hell was it.

I'm having a really good time replaying Halo. It's something Halo has aged so well and is still simple and fun to play. this package is a real winner but it does seem to have some bugs one time for me it was loading like a f***ing 2 mins but it did load and sometimes you see the screen almost skip a frame or jump when it plays a cut scene.

I really hate the consoles or whatever they're called using the Halo channel once a video did not load and it stayed in that loading halo channel screen had to reset the game.

Yeah I found that annoying too. Especially when the Halo Channel app would need an update. *flips desk*

Ok, I don't spend a lot of time playing games and usually like to flick between different things, so only just finished playing through all four on Heroic. Halo is really the only FPS that I really like (Doom is pretty cool though), so playing all the games back to back really gave them a different context to how I felt about them previously. Here's my campaign grading from best to worst:

1. Halo:CE - I really have to give the best to the first one. It's really amazing how well this game holds up. 2001, that's fourteen years ago. A long time in video games. There's just a simple charm to the first game, the core combat is fighting the Covenant trio of enemies, weapons and vehicles is when the series is at it's strongest for me. Proceedings do get bogged down with flood sections as it seems like you really wouldn't bother using anything but shotgun and AR. There were a couple of difficulty spikes as-well. This one was the hardest for me and took the longest. Classic game.

2. Halo 4- This instalment seemed to incur a lot of internet rage, but I found Halo 4 most similar to the first one, what-with the single weapon wielding and focus on covenant Elites, grunts etc. Lots of fun. The atmosphere is sold really well with the upgraded graphics, the most immersive of the series for me. I like Promethean weapons and the overall weapon suite the best in this game. Like the other games do with the flood, it gets a bit bogged down with Promethean enemies, which aren't as fun to fight as Covenant. Hopefully the devs can improve that. I really like the space-ship gauntlet at the end, hope to see more of that kind of stuff in Halo 5. The game really finished with a whimper though.

3. Halo 2 - So many egregious faults with this one. Just seems like to some really poorly conceived encounters, which had me saying 'did they actually play this sh!t?', just frustrating. It seemed like the first half or so was kinda weak, the dual wielding kinda throws the balance off. The story stuff is best in Halo 2, especially with the new cutscenes. The game is at it's best when using single weapons and some of the new weapon additions are great (Carbine, Battle Rifle, Beam Rifle etc). Also, there's bullet sponge unarmoured Brutes in Halo 2, just shoot at them, no strategy involved. At-least you don't spend the whole game fighting them...

4. Halo 3 - So I pretty much spent most of the game shooting at bullet sponge enemies. Yes, you get to fight Unarmoured Brutes for most of the game. Oh and the Flood returns for a good few levels. Sigh. The classic gameplay formula of finding weaknesses,/prioritising targets has been eroded at this point. But surely I can fight Elites? Nope. I don't actually think there is a story in the game. The Arbiter is there for some reason . I mean, I'm glad he is but whatever.

So I enjoyed all the games to various degrees. Probably my favourite release on XB1. Would probably put Reach in 3rd place from what I remember. But it just seems that Bungie had this goal to have bullet sponge enemies as the series progressed and they achieved that ultimate bullet sponge goal with Destiny.

I hope Halo 5 is good.

Halo 2 was 2004, man & they were trying to do a lot on limited tech. The game originally was over 2x as big as when it shipped, they cut almost half the game out. I still think Halo 1's campaign was the most "fun," but you have to admit there's tons of back-tracking or repetitive re-use of areas in Halo 1.

Man H:CE had some serious re-use of areas and back-tracking. I think the grind and cut/paste of The Library was worse than back-tracking, too much of the same for the whole lvl. Two Betrayals is my favorite lvl in the game, even though it's just AOTCR in reverse it's not the same repetitively and, the end battle is awesome. I think what really helped H:CE get more or less a free pass is it was the first console FPS to be as good/fun as it's PC brethren.

Maybe but also we forget that HALO:CE was one of the first FPS to really use vehicles and environments too. Plus the nice sandbox of Gun,Grenade,Melee.
