Fair bit of halo news today

Halo Esports Updates
Think of this as the Olympics of Halo. The 2018 World Championship is heating up and teams will compete for glory in qualifying heats across four regions. The HCS Fall Series is also finishing up in Denver, Colorado and you can read more about that here. Meanwhile, at every Microsoft Store in the world, Halo Tournaments will be kicking off as of now through March. If you're not that competitive, you can show your support for your favourite team as team skins are coming via Halo 5: Guardians, including weapon liveries for Luminosity, Str8 Rippin, Splyce, and more.

Halo Recruit
Halo Recruit is a Mixed Reality download that anyone with a Windows 10 Mixed Reality Headset can try or anyone who visits a Microsoft Store can try. It isn’t a game and plays as a more of a movie introduction to the Halo universe, but it is an interesting way to try out a VR headset. You can read more here.

Halo 5 Guardians Overtime Patch
Halo 5 Guardians is also getting a patch. The biggest news is probably the 4K enhancements coming to the game for the Xbox One X, but also returning is the game of Oddball along with mode-specific medals and a new VO. Speaking of multiplayer, Windows 10 players can now download a local servers app so they can now host local games. Finally, there are numerous weapons tuning tweaks coming to the game based on player feedback.

Outside of the patch, a Relief and Recovery REQ pack is being sold, with 100% proceeds being given to GlobalGiving. It can be bought in the game’s online store or through the Xbox One Store here.

Halo Wars 2 patch
Halo Wars 2 is also getting enhanced 4K visuals for the Xbox One Xand there will be two multiplayer patches. The first is in the form of Xbox Arena with the capability for players to create their own online tournaments, while the second allows cross play capability between those with the Xbox One version and the Windows 10 version.

Xbox One S Ultimate Halo Bundle
The last announcement from 343 Industries is the Xbox One S Ultimate Halo Bundle. The bundle ships with the standard Xbox One S with a 500 GB hard drive, the white controller, Halo 5 Guardians, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a 14 day Xbox Live Gold trial, and a month's free Xbox Game Pass. The bundle is available at Walmart for those in the US and through the Microsoft Store.

The Halo 5 Guardians patch should be available in November. The Halo Wars 2 patch should be available in late October.

So, because Halo Wars two is play anywhere title, does that mean I can play with my son on the Xbox and me.on the PC with the same game if owned digitally?

Anyone ever wondered why TMCC had so many issues? Why it was so complicated? Buggy?

It's 2017 and Frankles has answers...

The game should never have been released and I would have more respect if someone would admit that but it not working at release wasn't the only problem. Just saying it ended up working for a majority of users isn't really high standards. Just working isn't good enough. Might as well say "well it didn't light anyones X1 on fire"

But better late than never as these games need to be preserved well. Hope they put it on GWG to help get a community back in there.

I'll probably give this another go next year, if the fixes are competent and I'm not completely engrossed in other games by then.

The original Halos will always be games that I can have fun playing. Even Halo CE with it’s now junky graphics is still fun. Would love for the collection to work well online.

MS really f’d up the start of this gen. MC collection should’ve never happened. When it did, more and better communication should’ve happened.

That said, it’s good to see this change of direction. Sounds like they got the funding they needed to fix it. My only question is why couldn’t Xbox get the approval for the funding from Microsoft to fix this sooner? Feel like that would t have happened when Ballmer was there.

I don't think it was entirely reliant on the funding, moreso dealing with the technical side. It wasn't till later the Xbox tech/dev team made free more memory and a CPU core. But at least they're giving it another go, to keep Halo great, again

The claim is they couldn't fix it at the time but does anyone really believe that?

Reguardless I am glad this is getting taking care of and they want to keep their game in working condition.

Too many games, too little time.

All they should have done was Halo 2 Remastered.

Even back then when it was announced I had my doubts.

They should've released the mcc this year to coincide with Halo 3s anniversary, even if it wasn't remodeled with new assist besides 4k textures...I'd be ok with that

Yes. If you watched the dev diaries, they didn't even know if they could pull it off at all. They said it took wizardry to get it working at all. I understand that most people didn't watch those, though.

Originally they were going to have each game isolated. In the diary they said they thought they were crazy to try it. I guess they were right...

343 gives birth to smaller to to work on MCC whilst they work on the next Halo

Hey folks, with the new year well underway and January quickly coming to a close, I want to share an update on the status of the Master Chief Collection update project. As you know, last Fall, Bonnie joined me on our Halo live stream to share the news that we’d be cracking open MCC to perform some critical updates and fixes to improve the experience for everyone, as well as enhance the title for Xbox One X.

We’re excited to officially kick off what will be an ongoing conversation with our community for the duration of this project. Today’s inaugural post will cover a few key items – how we’re thinking about MCC and the community, where the MCC project fits into 343 Industries, how the team plans to pull this off, and a quick look at some of the progress that’s already been made since last year’s announcement.

Yeah bring it on, I still have a lot of gaming to get out of MCC but going to wait until it's enhanced for X.

Hopefully this goes well.

Also kind of interesting that they maybe subtlety hinted at some other potential projects.. that line in there saying: "A small but experienced team here within 343 has taken on the charter of supporting many of Halo’s “legacy” titles, with MCC currently being their number one priority. " Kind of makes me think they'll be working on more older titles after this one is finished, whatever that could be.

I'm probably intentionally misinterpreting that, but that's fine.

I'm going to read that as they're porting the Marathon series. I mean, I don't know that they even own that IP or if that stayed with Bungie, but that's probably not even close to the biggest problem with this theory so what's the heck. :)

DO I HAVE TO HAVE TO OWN / HAVE MCC INSTALLED IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN A PUBLIC FLIGHT?

No, you don’t have to own MCC to participate. However, players who have prior experience with MCC do have a higher likelihood of getting selected to participate in a flight(s). But the content itself is a separate, standalone download that doesn’t require the retail game.
