Looks kinda crappy, but riding raptors and pterosaurs sound interesting.

Looks immersive and gorgeous. But the video is missing something. Like "warning: E3 graphics not representative of final product."

Looks cool but how the heck are they getting guns and other things like metal structures?

The lighting looks phenomenal, but the animation is actually very crappy, IMO. The people walk/run very stiff. Even the dino's cadence seems really off, as well as their feet seem to glide. How the lighting is so polished before everything else, just seems backwards.

He wakes up with a metal implant in his arm. I'd say they are captured and made to enter the world to fight for someone's entertainment purposes. Just a guess.

Jurrasic Park meets Day Z, they said in that Gamespot article. Strange, but interesting. Not due out until summer 2016 on PC, although there will be early access on Steam in June or July. No release date or window for consoles announced yet, but presumably after the summer 2016 PC release, maybe holiday 2016.

edit: correction: consoles targeted for summer 2016 also:
http://www.worldsfactory.net/2015/05/11/ark-will-use-dx12-console-launch-expected-summer-2016

Note that it'll use DX12. Also: "The game will support VR devices such as Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus."

More info, from a press release:

"ARK: Survival Evolved takes on the survival genre with a unique blend of emergent multiplayer cooperation and competition. Players awake naked and starving on the beach of a mysterious island among a herd of other confused humans. On ARK, they must then hunt, harvest, craft, research technology, and build shelters to protect against scorching days, freezing nights, volatile weather systems, dangerous wildlife, and potential enemies.

"Use cunning strategy and tactics to tame and ride the many dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the dynamic, persistent ecosystems across land, sea, air, and even underground. Build your character’s strengths and gain items, skills, and pet creatures using in-depth role-playing systems. Start a tribe with hundreds of other players to survive and dominate competing tribes…and ultimately discover the ARK’s true purpose."

"Tame one of 60 amazing dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts, including gargantuan creatures on a scale never before seen in video games! Fly a Pterodactyl squadron over the snow-capped mountains, race through the deep jungle with your pack of trained Raptors, tromp through a fortified enemy base along a convoy of gigantic Brontosaurus, or chase down prey on the back of a raging T-Rex. Players will quickly learn that dinosaurs aren’t the only dangerous creatures on the island. Other players are organizing rebel tribes to accumulate resources, experience, re-spawn points, and to construct sprawling villages and cities, with technology spanning the primitive stone-age to the modern electric-powered era and beyond. And they will fight to destroy anything they see as a threat."

You mofo. Thought it was a remake of capcom's dino crisis. Got my hopes up for a moment there.

Very intrigued by this. Graphics look very very good! Finally a game that does self-shadowing properly..

This reminds me of a ps4 game I saw last year that was in development but cant remember the name

1st thought - wut

2nd thought - okay i get most of that wait wut dragons wut

It took me about 58 of the 60 minutes to figure out how to do anything.

By the end of my 60 minutes, I had a decent collection of feces, stone, a hatchet, flint, wood, thatch, fiber, some berries, a stone fireplace and a few engrams.

I'll check back in on this after there is some more progress; it's playable, but has a few things that need to be ironed out before I'd be comfortable playing more, mainly UI related for my tastes.

I've downloaded the trial. Been hearing the UI is nasty.
