Horizon: Zero Dawn

This game is so freaking good.

Yeah, it really is. I'm just taking a little break before heading back in. I just hit lvl15 and finally scaled up my first Tallneck. I'm getting the hang of combat which has made the game even more fun. I've got in the habit of placing traps before a fight which has come in handy. Those shock tripwires are a lifesaver.

The combat is so so good. When you use everything at your disposal with different bows, traps and potions it just blends together so well. Each machine troubles you in different ways and makes me you completely rethink your strategy. I just had my first battle with a stalker which was amazing and completely different from any other machine.

I'm not sure whats more impressive, the visuals or gameplay. I don't think I've ever stopped so many times and been wowed.

Yeah. The first time I came across a stalker it blew my mind. I was hunting some grazer machines when these 6 bandits wander up behind me and mess me up. I ran into the undergrowth and was hiding in the long grass trying to figure out a safe way to take them out when suddenly there is a giant roar and this cloaked preadator type machine bounces into the middle of them instantly killing two. It picks up another in its jaw and flings him across the map. The last three it blasts with a plasma cannon on its back. It all happened in about ten seconds. I'm saying perfectly still hoping what the hell it is doesn't see me. It decloaks for a second right in front me before cloaking again and bounding off. It's was epic stuff.

Every time nightfall hits and that glowing moon is above shining through the trees .. photo mode every 20 ft.

It seems like it's night 70% of the time for me. Then when it finally turns day it rains or snows.

gotta say i was hooked on this at the weekend, its been a while since i pop open a game as soon as i wake up and play for hours. this game gives me the satisfaction Far Cry 3 did when i first played that

Extremely solid game, good job guerrilla.. much better IP than Killzone

Yeah the traps are especially helpful in areas where you may have to fight two medium/large enemies at once, if you know the battle is coming you can set them up and make more and set those up as well lol.

The intro was amazing. Like watching a movie.

I'm just at the part before the Proving. Spent a few hours doing side quests and just roaming around lol.

As good as the intro is it pales in comparison to the game once it gets going.

And then I got my Collectors edition:

I still can't get over how insanely good this game looks and runs. I still haven't entered that major city yet. I'm trying my best not to rush through the game, so I've been doing as much collecting and upgrading as I can.

Yeah take your time. I think I was 22 by the time I got to the city.

The only negative I can think of so far is that fighting humans kind of sucks. At least "The Proving" mission did. It just kind of felt like a chore.

The Proving is right at the beginning. Wait until you get more toys to play with. Watching the humans fly as they set off my blast tripwire hasn't got old yet.

I'm not sure if its possible to fit all my weapons/traps in the weapon wheel. I think I need to pay more attention to what can be upgraded. I think I only upgraded my ammo/resources pouch and that's it. I know I can go to the pause menu and swap out what I want but that means breaking up the super smooth combat which is something I don't want to do.

This guy stole my image:

I'd jack your image too, its a helluva shot.

I'm at work right now but all I can think of is I'll be able to play this game tonight without having to watch the clock. That makes me smile.

I'm wondering where Horizon takes place on the map. Is this all happening in North America, Europe? I haven't been able to see any clues to this but since I've been drooling over the graphics its possible that I missed them.

The desert without a doubt was inspired by southern Utah. I found a random data log about someone interested in moving to a new place in Salt Lake City, it was in a snowy mountain area, so maybe that's Utah too. Regardless, I love how the game looks.

This game is absolutely incredible, visually stunning and has one of the most interesting worlds and story I've personally seen in ages.

But God help you if you fall into water. It's like Russian roulette trying to figure out what bit you can get out at, which can make fights a bit butt-clenching.

Yeah, the transition from water to shore is awkward. I'd just come from sinking in a ridiculous number of hours into Skyrim SE, moving from swimming to walking was so much more fluid in that game.

The vistas and environment in this game are ridiculous though, I swear I flip on photo mode every time there's a sunrise or sunset. Such a great looking game. I fought my first Thunderjaw last night, so awesome.

Yes, very impressive looking game. I think night time is my fave because you see a lot of great lighting and fog/mist effects some of which I don't think I've ever seen in a game before. Guerilla truly are master graphics craftsmen. Sound design is also great, the base from heavy stomping from some of the bigger machines gets me nervous every time.

I don't think I'm ready for a Thunderjaw yet. I only just got the Shadow Bow from Daytower and need a few more mods on it to make it better. No more sprinting for me while not in combat. Because of that I ran straight into 2 Sawtooths that wrecked me.
