Horizon: Zero Dawn

Thanks Andy. I am fighting the one in the arena. Gonna take a break and come back to it with your recommendation. I was frustrated.

Oh, I didn't realize it was the arena fight. Never mind my advice, then, because it wouldn't apply.

In that case, keep moving to avoid his attacks, and keep your distance. Trick him into ramming the pillars by standing behind them (but not too close). Ropecaster is very handy (a good one helps), followed by precise shots to the components (use Concentration to help aim). I liked shock arrows to the electrical tubes, or tear arrows to the other components (that big yellow thing will take out his distance attacks, though it takes a while). I pelted him with fire arrows to set him on fire. I would lob some bombs at him when he was tied down.

It took me a while. He's a Corrupted Behemoth, so stronger and meaner than usual. Hopefully you're high enough level; it can be tough at lower levels.

The one in the arena you don't actually fight. run around the pillars and get him to charge into them. Once he knocks a few, 3 i think, you get a cut scene and that fight is done.

Well, knocking down the pillars gets you your weapons, so you still have to kill it I think.

Nope. I never killed it with my weapons, playing on the hardest difficulty. It was kicking my ass over and over and I was trying to build some arrows from the pieces you pick up when he hit the third pillar, and BAM!, cut scene... I was a happy camper, let me tell you.

My experience was totally different if we are thinking of the same thing. You are weaponless to start, maybe luring it to the pillars over and over does it too.

Yeah. The part in the arena. That's the one. There was some pieces lying around you could use for crafting if I remember right. Definitely didn't kill the machine with weapons though.

I'm guessing the third pillar did enough damage to finish off a wounded Behemoth in your game, D-V-ANT. I've looked up some help pages on this fight, and all of them say knock down two pillars to get your ammo back, then finish him off with various weapons. None make mention of knocking the third pillar down as a way to end the fight. I'm thinking that was just coincidental in your game.

Lots of people have trouble with this fight, apparently. I'm thinking that if it was as easy as getting him to ram into a third pillar, that info would be out there, but I don't see it. Instead I see lots of talk about weapon strategies.

Unless I am completely loosing my mind (which I'll admit is a possibility) I am nearly certain I used either no weapons or one or two bombs at the very most. I was about to quit when the cut scene popped.

Hm. Weird. I did a search for behemoth fight in the arena and also + pillars, and I didn't come up with anything except a bunch of people saying the same thing -- knock two pillars down to get your equipment, then fight.

Maybe Kvally can give it a shot and tell us how it goes.

I have knocked down all the pillars before posting here and he was full health.

I am level 20. Some online say I should be level 30. Yet of course some guys are playing on the hardest mode, and beat it while on level 15. One guy says to ropecast him, but to only put fire on him and then run around the arena while the fire does its thing, then ropcast again and fire.

This world is f***ing huge.

It is, and at the same time, it's not too huge. I thought that just about everything in the game was right-sized -- number of cauldrons, bandit camps, Tallnecks, collectibles, enemies, regions, etc.

Did you make it through that arena fight?

No, I am still taking a break from Horizon for a few days. I might go back at it either tomorrow night or this weekend. I found a video where the guy just used fire arrows and dashed the attacks. I think I can manage what he did in that video:

Oh, and I didn't know that I could roll until I saw the video :(

I like that it has fast travel too. My time is so limited that it has helped me. My goal is to finish the game and then go back and do the side missions as time permits.

Yeah, dodge roll is essential. Better when it's leveled up, but you probably don't have the points to do that.

I walked everywhere, just because I enjoyed the world so much. I don't think I've ever enjoyed just walking around in a world as much as I did in Horizon. Just beautiful...

Anyhow, all my walking led to lots of fighting, which led to more levelling than your typical player, meaning I went into the arena pretty strong. I'm thinking you're relatively weak, since you're skipping side content and ploughing through the main storyline.

Go with what works, if it's giving you trouble. I'm sure a barrage of fire arrows will do the trick, eventually.

I enjoyed using all the options and fighting as smart as I could, whenever possible (although there were plenty of times I panicked and just did whatever came to mind). Knowing when/how to use what option in your arsenal can be confusing for a while, but once it clicks, it becomes really fun to mix it up. At least that's what I found.

But yeah, go with whatever works at this point. Good luck.

I'm like you- walk everywhere. I rarely fast travel as well. I love fully realised worlds. This, Red Dead Redemption, and Assassin's Creed: Unity spring to mind when it comes to games where I take the long route to enjoy the game. Unity was the first game that made me walk at a realistic pace just to soak all the life and tiny detail. Feel a part of the world.

I want to see more effort put in to minimising HUDs, and communicating that data in a less intrusive way.

You know you can go pretty much HUD-less in this game, right? I think I mentioned it earlier, but I'd really recommend that. Makes the world more immersive.

Oh, I know. I like that they have ready access one-touch for the hud info too. Funny thing about running around the world- I'm level 45 and only headed to Maker's End (level 14, I think)!

I will be going without fast travel when I go back for the side missions. I would go as HUDless as possible too.

One other thing, Kvally -- you can turn the difficulty down to "easy" whenever you like. There are no consequences to your trophies or your ability to platinum the game, if you care about that stuff. Trophies aren't dependent on difficulty level at all.

I did notice that Horizon seemed different than other RPGs I've played, where, if you were at the recommended level, you were in good shape, and if you were a couple levels higher, it was pretty easy. In Horizon, I would sometimes be 6 or 8 levels above the designated one, and I'd still have trouble. I heard this from other people, too. I got the impression that Horizon's designations were minimum levels, rather than recommended ones.

However, you're 31 levels above, so you should be okay.

Horizon Zero Dawn Patch 1.30 Adds New Game+, Face Paint Options, Ultra Hard Difficulty, More

As of today, you can download patch 1.30 which includes additional fixes to progression issues which some of you may have encountered. However, it also includes the highly anticipated New Game+ option.

With New Game+ you will be able to relive the adventures of Aloy without losing your character progression and your collected inventory. You won’t be able to progress beyond the level cap of 50, but you can still collect XP during your adventure.

We have also added updated versions of existing weapons and outfits with an extra modification slot at your disposal. These will not come cheap and will set you back some extra shards.

Before embarking on a new quest you can manually adjust the difficulty level to your liking. For players who seek an extra challenge, we are also introducing an ‘Ultra Hard’ difficulty. This new setting will enhance machine senses and behavior and will limit player health regen and other additional smaller tweaks. Players who decide to embark on the Ultra Hard path will not have the option to switch it to a less difficult setting.

New Game+ also comes with two new Trophies and extra unlockable content that gives players the ability to add facepaint or change Aloy’s Focus.

I wonder if you have to get the two new trophies to platinum it now? Just got it in at the buzzer if that is the case.

By the way, the two new trophies are 1) finish New Game+ and 2) finish New Game+ on Ultra Hard.

There is new equipment and armor, too, labelled "Adept." Not sure how it compares to Shadow equipment or the weapons you get through the lodge.

Not sure I'm up for a replay right now. NG+ is a nice addition, and kudos to Guerilla for including it, but I'm not sure I want to replay the game fully levelled. It might be different if there were additional levels to be gained, or alternate paths through the story, but there aren't. I don't think I'd enjoy entering a story like this fully powered up; it doesn't feel right to me, feels "gamey." I think I'd rather start from scratch. Besides, I've got other games to get to first.

OMG I am all f***ing over this right away!! Ultra Hard. Just like the erection this announcement gave me!

I'm not saying that everyone has to agree to get along. It just seems like you're generally abrasive with those that don't agree with you.

As evidenced by you calling me stupid.

Nope that's how you read my post doesn't make it true.

I didn't say you were stupid I said "that's stupid". Thanks for proving my point.

Maybe in Binary Land. If the experience completely relied on the dialogue portions, then, yes the valley might actually "ruin" the experience. Good thing it's still better than stuff like ME:A or Fallout in that regard.

There is also the fantastic movement and enemy encounters. The action RPG goodness, the immersive world and atmophere, etc.

One or two less-than-perfect elements do not ruin a game experience. It's just something they can work on.

Your post came off like it ruined your experience. I took it as such.

No you proved my point. I'm not the only one that sees that you're just a natural ray of sunshine. And it doesn't matter who you're conversing with. Xbox, PS or Nintendo fan.

I made my comment based on your posting history. Not just one post or one thread.

But whatever. I've never blocked anyone on here. But it may be time to test that feature out.

Ignore does make for a nicer forum experience. I put two or three people on ignore since I got back. It's just a less annoying experience all around.

Who's that character in your avatar, Dno?
