Horizon: Zero Dawn

Some tips to help you enjoy the post-apocalypse:

  1. Don't get discouraged about the gathering and crafting element of the game. It's kind of a hassle at first, but it'll get less time-consuming as you level up.
  2. Stealth works very well in the game as an approach.
  3. Melee is ok in dire straits but not something to rely on (at least before leveling it up quite a bit)
  4. The HUD is customizable. I'd recommend turning off everything you can, to make it more immersive. You can always bring it up with a brief touch of the touchpad.
  5. Use that focus, tag enemies, analyze their vulnerabilities. Aim for specific components, don't just fire a bunch of arrows (not as a general strategy, anyhow).
  6. I didn't use fast travel because I enjoyed the world so much, I just wanted to walk it, and it felt more immersive that way. Up to you, of course.
  7. All the weapons are useful, not just bow and arrow. You can train to use them at the training grounds. I found tripcaster and ropecaster especially helpful. A lot of the combat is about containment and strategy, not just pumping arrows in.
  8. Don't assume that just because a quest is marked Level 10, that you're good to go if you're Level 10. Think of that as minimum entry. I found it was best to be several levels above the designated quest level.
  9. Save early, save often.

Thanks those are good tips.

Played about 2 /12 hours so far. The game looks great and the gameplay is very fun and tense when you are hunting. I can't wait to play some more.

I envy you. I wish I could go back and experience this gem of a game with fresh eyes.

If you plan on becoming an efficient destroyer of mechanical beasts. I recommend learning the weakness to every foe you face. Most of the enemies travel in packs so learning what they are weak to will result in large explosions. You'll get to the point where you can take out large packs and look great doing it.

That's for later at the beginning I recommend using your traps and don't make the mistake I made and forget about consumables until you're almost at the end of the game. If you explore you'll find ample resources to craft different types of bombs and health potions so use them at will they'll make life easier.

Happy hunting!

Aloy already has that gear that shows her rock hard abs... mmmm.
I am for a Lara and Aloy DLC lesbian scene. Aloy is the butch of course. I happen to accidentally get in the middle....

The Carja Fire resisting one, yeah. Oddly enough, I like the electric resist outfit and the projectile resist ones best. Not sure why. Im still a bit sad that there is no outfit that shows any cleavage. Maybe because that's the one everyone would use... Even the women...

I found that one awkward. Partly because I didn't think that old-style objectification fit her character, and also because I liked and respected Aloy, and I felt awkward about dressing her that way. It felt sort of cheap, lol.

I mostly used the stealth outfit, but that was for function (although I appreciated the intricacy of the design). In terms of looks, I liked the colors of the winter outfit and how it framed her face. I liked the special weave armor, too.

I'm not a fan of the fire outfit because I didn't like the design. I don't really subscribe to the "objectification means you can't respect" line. I respect the hell out of my wife, but it doesn't mean I don't enjoy(prefer) when she dresses sexy. And games are usually about enjoyment. We objectify everything until we get to know it.

It all really depends on the style and tone of the game for me. I don't love many of the character outfits, but the design aesthetic is pretty consistent, and that's important.

I never used that one. Think I mostly went with the stealth at least to begin with. Can't remember what I used after that and before the special armor.

Objectification is pretty much the opposite of respect, since by definition it's a reduction of that person to the sexual element alone. That's why people object to it. What you're doing with your wife isn't objectification. And it's not true that we objectify everyone until we know them. Objectification is a matter of individual attitude/choice.

Not that I want to get into a conversation about objectification, which is filled with politics and so forth and will lead us down a rabbit hole. So forget the word "objectification."

The outfit just didn't fit my conception of who Aloy was, as a person. She's not interested in romance the whole game. She doesn't flirt. She doesn't deal in sexual innuendo. She's just not about that. So wearing a costume that reveals her "sexy abs" just does not work. That's not consistent with who she is.

Plus, I'm a good deal older than her, so having her dressed that way -- knowing that I dressed her that way -- would feel pervy to me. It would interfere with my experience of the game.

I agree that it wouldn't fit the character for sure. I never thought the mid-riff showing was particularly sexy, though. It is possible to show some skin without it being objectifying, too, which I feel that particular costume acheives.

I don't want to make too big a deal about it, though, as I really don't care either way. It's certainly not a discussion I feel like having here either.

Gawd I forgot how jaw dropping beautiful this game is.

It is.

Ive decided that this will be the first game which I will actually make an effort to get all the trophies and platinum.
Long way to go though as I'm only at 27% at the moment.

I fought the Thunderjaw lastnighr for the first time on the way to Meridian.
So freaking cool! Even after seeing them in the trailers I wasent prepared for the sheer size and tenacity of it. Just like the Tyrannosaurus its based on, its just pure killing machine.

late to the party but got this game last week. damn what a looker this game is. insane the details and the size and how well it runs. The story seems well told too so far I've not gone much into the game but played a few hours.

Depending on the size of the expansion, this might be my only means of playing it.

Because my satellite internet is crap and is worse/slower than 3G.

Ah. That sucks. You live in a place where cable internet isn't available?

I live in an area where 3G cell phone service isn't even available. There's a fiber optic line that passes less than a mile from my house on a parallel road which will never be run down this road at least.

Gah. That's got to be frustrating. I don't suppose you can sneak into someone's backyard, then string a mile of fiber cable to your house? Maybe no one would notice.
