Horizon: Zero Dawn

All of the hands on reports I have read about this game have been positive so that's a good thing, I'm really looking forward to playing this when it comes out.

The game is gorgeous. But something about the animation or framerate looks off at this stage of development.

Something tells me it will be delayed again. Whatever though, get it right and i'm there. It wouldn't be a PS4 exclusive if it wasn't delayed. Am i doing it right?

I'm still unsold, based on their track record with Killzone. I'll need to hear they've really taken their game up another notch, before I'm ready to buy in. Seems like they've got a pattern of putting out graphically impressive trailers, but then the actual gameplay is sort of average. I've heard that Horizon will be different, but I'm in "prove it" (or at least "wait and see") mode.

Same here. It's like that 'former stripper ex-gf that always manages to look hot but is dead on the inside'. She keeps coming back, saying 'it will be different this time', and you think 'ohhhh no, not this again.'
But then you see that perfect booty, the other head takes over, and you think 'welllllll maybe I'll give it another shot.'
I think we've all been there.

You know what's funny? Or not funny depending on who you are(Andy)

I made that post before i read the last two pages of the thread. Feel free to delete if i've reopened any wounds.

I mean, i agree that it gets annoying that games get delayed and PS exclusives have that stigma attached to them. At the same time, if you announce games 3 years in advance and talk them up and they keep getting delayed be ready for the backlash.

I'm not a big fan of the Killzone franchise. Horizon looks to be intriguing and brilliant from what I've seen so far.

It is Game Informer's game to cover this month. Already been interesting details given and some new brilliant footage, especially that canyon shot. Also people who have played it PAX and BGS all say it plays incredibly smooth and fluid and it is easy to pick up and play.

I wouldn't say Killkzone 2 is average. The online community was pretty heavy just a year ago . Guerilla had moved on to Horizon every since Killzone 2 that's why Killzone 3 and 4 were disappointing.

Pretty safe to say the gameplay is beyond any Killzone title. You said "prove it" they already did. Sure some things are up for question like story but the gameplay in depth and strategic.

You got that definitive perception from the videos we've seen or have you played it? Serious question.

Today all but confirmed that Horizon is going to be awesome for me. Kind of got an Uncharted vibe with the climbing on the robots. Looks amazing upscaled to 4k or whatever on the Pro.

lol After all the news , gameplay videos and impressionsI can safely say Horzon is in depth. The gameplay is way above any Killzone game..

1. One paticular situation can handled in many different ways.

2. Conserving ammo is really important and kmowing when to use it is important. The game also has rare ammo.

3. Challenging gameplay that requires you to think.

4. The enviorments plays a roll in battle (mentioned by Oblong)

5. Like any RPG new clothing and Gear will provide advantages/disadvantages.

The hands on reports for Horizon have been very positive when it comes to how it plays, of course none of us know yet because we haven't played it but seeing positive reporting on it should help reassure people who have doubts.

visually amazing but man... is this uncharted? climbing that robot dinosaur LOOKS cool sure but its just like climbing anything else.. follow the yellow ledges

Horizon is an open world RPG . Thats what makes it interesting

This game is going to be awesome.

I just hope it doesn't fail itself and having crappy mundane side quests and annoying fetch quests filling up the screen.

Yeah this game has a ton of potential and the pressure is on GG to deliver! A lot of people are very interested in this, it's a new IP, it looks amazing and it seems pretty unique which is kinda rare these days.

I wouldn't say it looks unique. It doesn't appear to be doing too much that other games don't do.

I'm talking the setting/story more than anything else. How often do we see mechanical dinosaurs in an open world RPG? :)

But it has just jumped aboard the current sci-fi trend. Something like Mass Effect was unique because it came at a time where gaming was mainly focused on modern day settings.

Don't get me wrong, it looks cool and I do dig the setting.

And it isn;t as if it needs to be unique anyway. Witcher 3 isn't unique, but it is the current bar setter for RPG's because of the overall quality of the game. If Horizon can give Witcher 3 a run for its money then we are in for a treat...and Gorilla Games will be worthy of many accolades for the accomplishment.

The game looks amaze balls. I love the setting. Some of it may be a bit silly, but that's gaming. I'm calling it now. This is the best one ever.

I'm officially stating, that I believe this will be the best Assassins Creed ever!

As I have stated numerous times Horizon is the most ambitious project out of any first party developer from Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. People are now starting to see why. Incredibly fluid and fun gameplay,a huge and varied world and unique enemies and the visual prowess of a linear game. Guerrilla are making other devs look bad at its first attempt at an RPG.

I have just read Game Informer's piece on this game and I have a bevy of information to share:

Guerrilla wanted to make a game that's "Beautiful in a majestic way" instead of the grit of Killzone. They wanted to create a world you wanted to be in, instead of escape from.
-Work on Horizon began in 2010
- Horizon has its own engine. Not the same as Shadowfall
- GI saw settings in desert, arctic, and temperate environments. Saw machines that will hide in the water.
- Guerrilla promises why the world got this way will be answered. Also say "this is a sci-fi game and that they won't depend on fantasy at any point.
- The various tribes are radically different including how they feel about the machines. Some of them believe the machines becoming more violent is punishment from the gods.
- You aren't recruiting different tribes to your cause but they will sell you different gear and have their own side quests and storylines
- There are bandits in the world so you will have to fight other humans too
- Aloy is most concerned with finding her origin, and most importantly who her mother was
- She has been raised in the Nora Tribe, but the tribe completely ignores her existence. For reasons she doesn't know they seem to shun her.
- The Nora are ruled by women, Matriarchs
- Aloy was raised by another outcast named Rost, who didn't do it of his own will. The Tribe forced him
- Rost is stern and overprotective but only wants the best for Aloy / Father figure
- There are playable flashbacks of Aloy's childhood
- There are Hunter Trials which are essentially Big Game Hunts / Hunter's Guild
- A flying enemy called a d Glinthawk can throw ice bombs
There are "Corruption Zones" which are areas of the map filled with dangerous enemies. Some of the biggest fights in the game can be found in these zones
- There are lots of sidequests but don't expect them to be as expansive as The Witcher
-GI was surprised at the depth of the game, how intelligent the AI is, and how fluid the controls are.
- GI stated every battle felt like a challenge and that you are in danger often so you need to reasses scenarios such as finding a high spot to plan out your plan of action (GI surprised how fluid traversal was)
- You can craft different outfits to change Aloy's appearance
- A screenshot shows Aloy wearing a metal chest piece, quite a bit different than her normal "animal skins" look
- Aloy has 3 different skill trees that you can put level up points into. They are Prowler (Stealth), Brave (Damage focus), and Forager (Resource Gathering)
- Skill tree is designed to give extra abilities such as kill instantly stunned enemy instead of perks but they are in there
- Weather makes an impact as it affect your vision and traction on the ground
- Aloy can find modifications when she defeats enemies that can be slotted into her weapons and armor. These affect things such as stats and give buffs
- There are weapons such as rocket launchers and machines which you can tame which have not been shown

Games are really starting to look like high quality concept renders. Which is awesome.

Sony has amazing artists.
