December was the first time I purchased a Sony console since the original PlayStation. I've been getting caught up on PlayStation's exclusives on my Pro. I'm finally ready for the Uncharted Collection.

I know that Uncharted 2 is regarded very highly and is supposed to be a big jump over the original. With the fact that I'll never have the time in my life to play through my entire backlog, does the community believe skipping the first Uncharted is a good strategy or would I be missing out on major aspects that will enhance the rest of the series?

well, you'll miss out on the story and how Nate got that blond girl. other than story and character stuff you won't miss much. I'd say it's worth it just do a fast run.

Throw the disks one by one into a fire? That would be more fun than playing the actual games.

Do all 3, but speed run it. Humor is great.

I was in the same boat. I played through them all and enjoyed the entire series. 1 is certainly dated by modern standards, but was still worth playing in my opinion.

The second is a pretty decent sized quality jump but the first is still probably better than the majority of games in your backlog. You could always just play on easy to rush it.

I would play the entire collection. Why rush through them? There is some great storytelling in there.

I agree with play them all on easy. The game-play is not terribly engaging on the first 3. ND are good story tellers with great characterization, though I don't know if you'd want to go back to back. Could be pretty tedious.

Regardless, once you play 4, going back is no fun. I am trying to get through 3 right now.... not very fun so far, if you ask me. The game-play loop in 4 is much, much better and smoother than the previous games.

Hmm. I feel like if the only reason to play a game is the story, then it's best to just watch YouTube videos of all the cut scenes. It's what I did for the original Halo Wars. Is the gameplay similar for the first 3?

I assume he is talking about the combat and not the overall gameplay

Youtubeing Uncharted sounds like a terrible idea. If you aren't playing the big set pieces then why bother with it at all? Its not a Telltale game.

I'm gameplay>>>story guy but story still matters. That's why based on feedback, I'm considering jumping right to UC4 and streaming the story that came before it.

Hey man, you're in the same boat as me, Xbox owner since day one and finally made the switch to PS4 and I have all these exclusives to play.

So I've finished The Last of Us, that was my priority, I'm 75% through the first Uncharted game, I LOVE it, the mechanics are a tiny bit dated in some aspects but it still looks and plays great, IMO I would play the whole collection.

That would be ok, but I would definitely not skip out on 2 and 3, especially if you can get the remasters for $20. Even 1 was good gameplay wise, it just shows its age compared to newer 3rd person games like Division. Even 1 on easy might be the way to go.

Having a PS4 and not having played Uncharted is kind of like getting an Xbox and not playing the early Halo remasters. I'm not a big "exclusive" gamer, but these games are totally classic.

Agree with you here, it is dated but not by a lot and the game itself is brilliant, must play if you've not played them before.

Sounds like a poor idea to me. Seems like starting the first one allows you to make the decision about whether they are worth the time. Maybe your backlog suffers but you might be glad it did.

The feedback in this thread certainly doesn't suggest skipping them.

I'd rather play HaloCE and Dark Souls 1 than many modern games. Graphics matter but gameplay is king and I have no issue playing great games from the past that don't hold up technically. That said, you all talked me into it. I'll try the entire collection from start to end.

Nah, general climbing and navigation is pretty mediocre, as well. There is zero challenge to the climbing. It's all a bit wonky. 4 is much more polished.

The gameplay in the first game is terribly dated compared to the rest of the games, but it's still worth playing for the story alone.

Release order. I'd feel like i'm missing something if i didn't start a series from the beginning. Uncharted is special because of it's strong characters. Gameplay wise it's your regular shoot the bad guys, climb to get where you need to go. Couple puzzles here and there. It doesn't change much, like most successful franchises.
