We have all been here for many years now including our time at Team Xbox. How have we all aged? Have your gaming habits changed as you aged?

I am 45. I am gaming less, but doing substantially more single player games and much less multiplayer player games. I find that I am more story driven than ever (some thanks to Andy)

What about you guys?

I'm just playing fighting games and mostly Mortal Kombat X still. Work keeps me so busy I don't feel I have time to campaign or Level UP. I like just jumping to MKX for fight a few rounds if I have time at the end of a long work day.

I would play more shooters, but I don't like team games and most FPS seem to be made for team play. I used to play Max Payne 3 DEATHMATCH and it was so much fun mobster mayhem. I miss that game sometimes and hope to see a Max Payne 4.

Also for what it's worth, I'm working this crap job as a truck driver and my company recently acquired a complete Simulator set. It's not really supposed to be a 'game' per se, but I might get to try it out sometime. It does include all the real world dash controls like the Air Brakes and a standard 10 Speed Shifter and Clutch pedal.

Note: I badly wish this machine could be hooked up for GTA5 lol.

Anyway, I'm actually posting this from my Republic of Gamers STRIX Laptop with USB tethered to a Tablet for Verizon Internet in the truck while I'm on break. I might get more MKX going or shop for games on Steam. Then tomorrow I pickup about 40,000 pounds of scrap paper in Minneapolis to take to Wisconsin.

This job is f***ing ridiculous, but I'm making okay money lol.

I'm 55, probably the old fart of the forum. I only got into gaming when I was 40, though, so I was a late bloomer. Still a kid at heart in many ways -- or at least I try to keep that part of me up and running.

How have things changed? Well, I've noticed a few things:

1. I have a much better sense of what I like and what I don't.

2. I've lost interest in shooters and online gaming.

3. I'm much less interested in AAA games. I usually gravitate toward games (and people) that are a little different.

4. I have more appreciation for games with good stories and characters. Games that move me, make me laugh, have characters I like or admire, etc..

5. I'm less interested in violence and spectacle for their own sake.

I'm 41 and been gaming since I was a kid old enough to ask for an Atari for Christmas. The interesting aspect of gaming is that for me it made me fall in love with technology and chase a career in IT, which in the early 1990s in Ireland, was not an easy thing to do, unless you wanted to work in a factory putting computers into boxes. Which I didn't. But I stuck with it and now I can make my own hours, work from home when I want, and still play video games.

Much like yourself my interest has changed over the years. My COD days are well and truly behind me and I have no real interest in twitch shooters. I like to have one or two good multiplayer games to play with my friends on a weekend and then a good single player game (category is irrelevant) so pass some time when I need to chill out.

My gaming tastes have shifted from big RPGs (loved Morrowind) to mostly city/colony/empire builders on PC. I like watching little computer people build things I guess.

My dream game would be kind of a God game in which you just kind of sit back and watch simulated societies grow on their own--maybe battle each other for resources... etc. I love games that attempt emergent AI systems. Rimworld is awesome, but still too much micro for my taste.

I remember spending an embarrassing amount of time hyping up the original Fable on TXB, only to have it crush my soul with disappointment.

31. I got into gaming during the PS1 days.

My mother bought me the Tomb Raider PS1 bundle for getting good grades/birthday and the rest is history.

Moved to PC gaming when I hit my late teens. Quake, Wolfenstein, Half Life, etc. Mainly a PC gamer now though will probably jump back into console gaming when the Xb1X releases.

31 here as well. Been gaming since NES days but most likely the tail end as I remember SNES a lot more. I would say my gaming habits in terms of how much I play and being interested in it has remained the same. I'll almost always find time for 30 minutes to an hour a day, although there are periods I won't play any games for several days, and others I'll fine myself still playing at 3AM on the weekend.

As for the types of games I'm playing that has definitely changed. I am almost entirely single player or coop. I used to love early Call of Duty or Battlefield games when that is what I would spend most of my time doing, but now that I prefer story based games I don't have time to stay good at competitive games. Although now that Splatoon 2 is out I'll be rocking that quite a bit. Either way I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

I'm 34. I don't play games as much, and usually I play older games more these days. I do occasionally buy a new one, but not often.

I started on the Atari 2600, then to OG Nintendo with Rob and Gyromite and Commodore 64. Then it was the usual NES, Genesis, SNES, Saturn, N64, Jaguar, 3DO, PS, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4. Never had a handheld. Well, one. Some Gameboy. Now, I play I a few pick up and play iOS games. On consoles now, much less multiplayer, and games in general, unless there's one I really want to play.

As I've gotten older, I've much rather want to watch a movie, or a show, than sit and play a game. When I do play a game, I play the s*** out of it for a few days to beat it. I did put some hours into Battlefront, and, of course, Shadow of Modor. With COD sucking so bad in servers, me playing it nonstop for a month is long gone. I do miss that. Get dedicated servers and I'll be back to that.

I'm 47. I've been gaming since pong, maybe even before.

I'd say my gaming tastes have changed as well. I used to love online when it was new and fresh. I'm kind of getting burned out on story focused single player games as well though. I'm kind of a casual gamer now honestly.

I love my 16-bit games, and new games in that vein. I have a feeling that the Switch is going to be my main console, though I have a Pro and will buy the X.

38 here been gaming since I was 3.

used to be really hardcore and buy all latest and greatest but now im married with 2 young kids 3 and 8weeks don't get to game as often plus money is used more responsibly now.

43 years old. Started with Atari 2600 and many an arcade game. It was Sega that really reignited my videogame love, arcade, and otherwise. I have owned every Sega system from Master System to Dreamcast.

I've owned every Xbox and only PS1 and PS4 Pro, but I've played all of them.

Story and "the experience" captures my attention more than a deathmatch.

53. So Andy isn't alone in the Old Fart subsection.

Been gaming since I got a Sears Telstar Pong on Christmas 1977. Played thousands of titles since.

I've really slowed down, especially the past year as my business has grown exponentially and it wears me out. I've given up on the twitch shooters and really most all online competition. I seek great stories and those are generally in the short indie titles. (BTW-Hey Andy I beat Life is Strange and LOVED IT!!!)

I still fire up Rocket League and FIFA a few nights a week and lately I've found The Golf Club 2 growing on me. Yeah, golf just perfect for an old man still flicking the sticks.

I loved Life is Strange, prolly the best game I've played in the past couple years.

I'm 39, been playing since my Dad made the "mistake" of buying me a Nintendo when I asked for a 2600, he just smiled when I said that. I've had just about every system up until the PS2/XBox. Now that I have a family game time is a little less frequent, though with two young boys I get to share the love of gaming with them now :)

Im 41. First console was a Sega Master System and Ive owned pretty much every console since except for Neo Geo, Saturn, and Gamecube.
I find I tend to binge game over the last few years. I wont touch my game consoles for a couple months and then Ill go hard for a few weeks playing daily before I take another long hiatus.
For games I love my Fifa and PES soccer every year, have loved playing the last 3 Battlefield games online, and then story driven single player stuff.
Im a huge graphics whore so Im not interested in retro games at all even though I grew up with them.
I hate PC gaming. Mouse and keyboard drive me up the wall as do constant driver issues.

What is your business?

I'm 30.

Ive been gaming since I was about 5. I grew up on a rather remote farm (my closest neighbour was about 30 minutes away) and we couldn't get TV reception, unless it was a really clear night. As a result, we only had VHS and Nintendo to keep us entertained, until we got our 486 in '94. I had every Nintendo until the WiiU, and most PlayStation store. And every Xbox since.

My gaming tastes have stayed pretty similar over the years, but my habits have changed greatly.

I played FFXI to the point where I think I was addicted. I would blow my friends off to spend 20 hour gaming sessions playing the game. When I turned 19, I disconnected the internet, and threw myself into work and partying. Best thing I ever did.

Now I own my own businesses, and I miss the luxury of being able to regularly raid in an MMO with a guild at a set time, but my schedule/event calendar doesn't let me have set nights free.

Ive been relatively off work for a few weeks now with a broken leg, and I've surprisingly not gamed that much. When I did, I played titanfall 2 to death until I finished it, then uninstalled it. I just finished Ori again too, and started Recore at about 5am today.

In saying that, I still pull the Wii out on a Sunday afternoon when I have mates over for some drinks(before real housewives of New York)

I still prefer to game with mates on the couch than play online (unless it's an MMO).

43 here. Grew up on the Atari 2600 and been gaming ever since. Makes sense we have so many people around that age. We're kind of the first gaming generation.

I still play a pretty big mix of games, of course as time allows. I still play multiplayer games, just not as much as I used to. I think that's more because of the dull COD games. Lots of single player games too. I end up buying more than I can play.

Sadly, my biggest time constraint now is needing sleep. A Friday night used to mean gaming until the wee hours. Now, it means being in bed by 10pm :( I wish I could say it was work or something else taking all my time, but now my old body needs 8 hours of sleep as opposed to 5-6 when I was younger.

A couple friends were going out last night (weeknight) at 9pm for beer and wings. There's no way I could go. Wings after 9pm alone would kill me now, and on a work night I'm in bed by 9:30 and sound asleep by 10.

I would kill for your sleeping habits. I can't sleep for more than 3-4 hours without pills.

I exclusively date older people, and it's been a point of contention at times, especially with how hyper and active I am.

Sometimes if I have a large red bull, I'll go a 40 hours without sleep.

I was actually a terrible insomniac for years when I was younger, then I started having some major health issues because of it. I basically hit a wall where my body basically stopped being able to handle it. I used to consider myself a night owl. Now, I'm lucky to see 10pm on a clock before being asleep.

Don't be afraid to see a doctor about it. There's milder meds that can switch that around. I know I got a wake up call suddenly that I could not live a lifestyle like I was 25 anymore. Maybe that isn't common for everyone, but man I got old in a very short time.

I've gone to the sleep clinic here in Melbourne for a week, and they said that I'm just wired that way, and it's not worth medicating until I start feeling fatigued/find it disruptive. They estimated I had a 27hour body clock or something too.

I'm fine for now. I just get bored when I have to go to bed with a partner. It's when I normally drink too much and post here on these forums. :p

I wonder if you are the only female in our group here :tounge:? What kind of business do you own?

I was thinking there was a chance I might be surprised by the poll results (thinking that people were younger than I thought), but based on the results, I guess it is what I was hoping it would be. I am glad on average we are all pretty close. It's the reason I invest so much of my time here.

I'm male, bitch. :p

I have two salons, with a third opening in October-november (depending on how things go...).

Im planning on opening a skin treatment facility once I pay off my mortgage in a year or two. I love needles and lasers. ;)

Nice work on owning and building your own business. I would love to do that, but I am nervous. I plan on starting a brewery in Florida (US), and I know what is involved with regards to a small business plan, customer service, and everything needed to run a business. I just want to make sure that I know EXACTLY what I will need to charge for my product to cover all my expenses AND give me the lifestyle income I have come to get used to over my years working in accounting at Hilton. I would love to get it to the point where my wife and I would start it out, and then I could make enough to have someone run it for us while we traveled. I just need to see if a micro brewery is going to be lucrative enough for me.

I was terrified when my old boss offered me to buy the business (I'd worked there for 9 years), and his wife walked me through loans and all that jazz. I was managing 3 of his shops at that point, but being 27 with almost $400k debt was not how I pictured my life. I was convinced I was gonna join The 27 club with Amy Winehouse.

Now, I think I could easily open up another 5-6 salons, it's just training and managing staff that is the difficult part. It's like herding f***ing cats, with diva personalities and 6 inch heels. But I love it. One thing that really bugs me now though, is that the concept of a work free holiday are a thing of the past.

Every weekend, staff call me constantly, when I'm on holiday, people still call me about the most petty s***. Comes with the territory though I guess.

I would never be able to do what you're planning though. Opening up something in an entirely new field? That takes guts!

Could you do a local craft brew before going the hole hog? You'd probably be lost hanging out with your wife without work to distract you too. :p

(I hate going on holiday with just a partner. I'm not comfortable with silence, and I hate romance stuff. I hate going to dinner with just them too.)
