Hurricane Harvey

Damn, if I had a boat, I'd be packing it full of animals. I'm a huge animal lover and it destroys me when I see animals fighting for their lives like this.

I thank those that actually are doing this!!!

This was a mistake and Best Buy responded and it was a mistake by employees who extrapolated single bottle price for the entire case as they don't have pricing for cases of water in the system since they never sell cases.

Where are they supposed to get food for survival from? Go fishing? Everything is closed. They supposed to all just die?
Actually, Responsible people should be prepared for events like this so you dont have to go loot. I have 6 months of food for my whole family in Mylar bags in plastic totes. I can grab and go if I need to,or I can hold up in my home.
Looting a grocery store is a very short term solution. What if you are late to the loot-fest? Do you just starve at that point?

No surprise that people that like Trump are taking the "f*** poor people" stance in this thread

Just as Jesus would have done

Responsible people have a bomb shelter worth of food? I don't know anybody who has food to last six months. I have enough to last a week, like most people. A very shallow way of thinking on your part. You obviously have absolutely no concept of the average size house people live in by the coast.

Actually, I live on the coast. Thanks..
I lived through Hurricane Charley(I lived 20 miles from the center when it hit) where I didnt have power for over 2 weeks and learned my lesson on not being prepared..What are you going to do if you have no access to food for over a week? Everything is going to be looted by that time in your world.
My food supply fits in a bedroom closet. It doesn't take a bomb shelter...
It was put together over the course of 2 years by buying extra bags of rice or whatever whenever I went shopping. I have 3000 calories/day for 4 people. Excuse me for being prepared and not having an excuse to go looting..

So you weren't prepared and you are faulting other people for not being prepared like you once were?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is just standard practice where I live. Emergency preparedness is something that's taught in local churches and communities. Beyond that, I consider it common sense...props to you for having some.

Being prepared by having food storage for his family is "a very shallow way of thinking on his part"? Given the context of this discussion, that is the dumbest comment I've ever read on any forum.

Trumps America right here my friends.

Trump's a piece of s*** human being. What does Dark Helmets post have to do with "Trumps America". Are you and Plainview waiting for a government hand out if things go south? If a disaster occurs where you live, are going to wait for the government to show up and bottle feed you and in turn wipe your ass?

There are truly those that are less fortunate and they should be the priority for first responders. I believe those of us that have the means, also have the responsibility to be as self sufficient as possible...it benefits all parties involved. I can't believe this is even up for debate, and it's frightening this train of thought exists.

I think you can say "I think people should have been better prepared" and I think that is fair and in general people aren't as prepared as they should be for these storms. Although it should be considered that this wasn't really expected and by the time the forecast called for anything like this it was too late

But you have to come to some kind of reasoning of why its so horrible that people took what was going to be trash out of a grocery store. We aren't talking about people that looted jewelry stores or electronic stores. Was it ideal? No. Was it wrong? You can't say that if you had a shred of decency in you.

Having six months of food stored away in a house is normal? Asking that of every family is normal? Bulls***. Completely bulls***.

Having stored food or a general emergency preparedness kit in a house is reasonable if you can afford to do that.

Not sure about the people in apartments; especially low income people or seniors.

Muh food buckets.

People should absolutely have water and non-perishable foods on hand. 6 months is pretty excessive, but at least a couple days or a week.

But yeah, not everyone can afford that and others don't think of it. I live in an area notorious for major blizzards, and even once or twice I've been caught unprepared. I always try to get a few gallons of bottled water and some canned goods at least.

Oh and never, ever forget to stock up on booze. Lots and lots of booze.

Maybe its not "normal", but its not crazy...While you are standing in a line for hours waiting for your govt handout,or searching a grocery store for a few scraps off missed food Ill be safely in my home not being a burden on first responders and aid workers..
I bet you have a nice big screen TV, computer ,I phone,I pad, probably go to starbucks regularly to spew your smug douchebaggery here several days a week. Yet, you only have a weeks worth of backup food. Im willing to bet you only have 3 hot pockets and a pack of kool--aid mix..

I'm somehow smug by saying having six months of food is impossible for many? Sure thing pal. You're the "smug douchebaggery" one who thinks having six months of food is normal, or possible, for the masses. It's for many reasons. As far as Starbucks goes, don't drink coffee and never will. And I've never had a hot pocket in my entire life. Not sure I ever had cool aid either.

I'm not sure you'd be safe in your house if you have water up to the second floor. But keep thinking in your shallow frame of mind thinking everyone has the means and enough room for a surplus of food.

A whole lot of insults in your post. Grow up and act like an adult you claim you are with your six months of rations.

People not in this s*** sure always have the answers how people should have handled this situation.

Anyways, they have to start letting out water from a lake in my area so now the river is about to flood hundreds of homes. They are now evacuating those areas.

I was just poking fun at DH because he is a Trump supporter, and anyone that is a Trump supporter has to have something mentally wrong with them.

Preparing is great when you have the space and the means. We made sure to have enough food and water to last us for awhile and I went and filled our gas tank up. Not everyone is always going to have the time or the money to prepare for s*** like this, but sure are a lot of people on the news/social media throwing around their two cents on the situation and how some people should handle it.

You have to be an utter piece of s*** to think taking food from a grocery store is morally wrong in times of a national disaster. Any responsible would do the same, for their family, neighbors, and themselves.

You can see the real authoritarian mentality that pops up. Some people would let bread rot on the shelf rather than take it to eat.

Of course I'm sure some aren't taking just food and that's the real problem. People who evacuated shouldn't be punished for leaving. You can see why people wouldn't want to abandon their homes and businesses.

The animals dying saddens me more than the loss of human life. Probley because I have a low opinion of humanity in general
I agree, although part of that is humans know what the hell is happening and have the means to escape.
