Nintendo 2DS

This redesign is hitting stores in NA October 12. I haven't been too keen on the latest generation of core handhelds (Nintendo/Sony), but I'm still a sucker for Pokémon.

Aesthetically, the 2DS does not hit home. Very ugly piece of hardware, IMO. But that price tag of $129.99 is sweet enough for me to bite.

Not sure if you guys have read any news on the thing, but it forgoes the 3D (obviously) and the clamshell design (obviously, again, from pics). I could care less about the 3D aspect, so this is a nice, entry-level machine to get me into the 3DS library of games.

Hoping to pick up Zelda OoT 3D and Starfox 64 3D on the cheap, as well.

Does any other TXB refugee own a 3DS? Could you suggest some good games?

I really enjoy(ed) Super Mario 3D Land, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Fire Emblem Awakening, Mario Kart 7, Pushmo (eShop), and Crashmo (eShop). There's certainly enough of a selection to justify the preorder. Enjoy!

I found Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 on Amazon for $30 a piece, so I bit. I didn't even know the 3DS had a Mario Kart in its library. Shows how much I know :tounge:

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into those marketplace shops, as well. Not much of a Luigi's Mansion guy, though.

My kids have DSi XL's and a DS Lite (for the GBA port), never got them a 3DS because we (my wife and I) don't like the 3D crap (even when you turn it off it looks funny to us), the 2DS is a good idea but I agree that the form factor looks silly..large change of breaking a screen. I'm going to wait for reviews and user experience feedback before I look at purchasing one for my kids.

I never own a single handheld system before in my life. I'd definitely like to buy N2DS one day. Very friendly price, me thinks.

That is what got me. A $129.99 entry fee into what seems like a great library of games is an awesome deal.

Updated the OP with an image of the console. I guess there were a lot of complaints that the 2DS looks uncomfortable to hold, but feedback from those that have tested the unit has been positive. A lot of people have said it feels durable, too.

Is the 3D aspect even a selling point or better yet a focal point of games on the 3DS?
Reviews have stated that the 3D is well done, but unnecessary, in most of the games I've been looking into (Mario Kart, Zelda remake, Starfox remake, etc.). I never cared for the 3D aspect, anyway, which is why I'm interested now (that, and Pokémon ).

Ghost Recon. It's a turn-based strategy in line with X-com or Jagged Alliance.
Good fun and suits a handheld.

I hear you on the 3D aspect. The games that I've played the 3D is well done and works great but, like you I could care less bout it. I was just wondering cause at the beginning the 3D was touted pretty heavily, now it seems that it's almost an afterthought.

Pick up Fire Emblem: Awakening and Shin Megami Tensei 4 if you are into Role Playing Games. They are fantastic!

The new Zelda, a direct sequel to SNES A Link To The Past comes out in November.
Thats actually my most anticipated game this year.

It looks a little clunky, but the price isn't too bad. I'm really tempted because of the library of games, but I never seem to get my money out of a handheld.

With Vita at $200 now and with a rapidly growing library, I don't see the value here unless you are in love with Nintendo.

lol Vitas library is horrible, don't need to buy overpriced memory cards either just the system and games.

Yeah people keep saying that, but no it's really not. Only people who haven't actually cared to look still say this. There are hundreds of Vita games and they keeps churning out better and better ones.

Is that the one where Link can become a painting or some s***? I'll have to put that on my radar; anything Zelda is good!

For peoples perspective, let's look at current releases on Metacritic.

Yeah, I know which games I would rather be playing out of those two consoles. People can keep blowing it off, but the Vita has really been delivering lately.

If I had a 3DS/2DS, the first game I would buy were, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars.
Game wich UFO/XCom creator, Julian Gollop, worked on.

Would be cool with any game-impressions, from your new system. :)
what you like and dislike about it, and what the games cost.
Especially if you buy something else than Mario, and the regular titles. :)

Spelunky is how old? I know an XBLA version was released last year, Rayman Legends I would rather play on my big screen and can since its out on 360/Wii U, and Muramasa I played years ago on the Wii. Thats the reason I prefer the 3DS/2DS, games that I can't play on my consoles.

That is it, looks awesome. Love your avy tonights episode was gut wrenching.

Have you played it? It's a great game. My only complaint, really is that once you've totally upgraded your characters, they're only available in that for for the final mission. I'd have liked to be able to use them in the other modes.

Gonna add that Ghost Recon title to my list, thanks! And yeah, I'll definitely post some impressions when the 2DS gets here on the 11th.

No, it's just a game I've seen trailers and read about, wich I tought looked really cool. :)
Just tought I'd mention it in case other people wanted to look it up. :)
