In 1989 I was ten. Batman was the big blockbuster film and all the kids were into it, from sticker books, lunch boxes and toys to comics, Prince songs and computer games.
The licensed game of the film was very good, made by Ocean who specialised in licensed games and released them every year by the bucket load. Not always great but usually polished.
I had an Amstrad CPC and absolutely loved this game, the visuals, the music, the platforming, the rock hard Batmobile stage, everything. The CPC was on its last legs by then but I didn't care, ignorance was bliss.
So fast forward to today and I'm playing Injustice: Gods Among Us, thinking what an incredible thing this would be to that Kid from 1989 who thought Keaton's Batman was super cool.
I would have been gobsmacked by this game. There are lots of games I could pick from which are even more graphically impressive, but I don't think they would have had quite the impact of the 3D comic book violence in Injustice. I don't think even the Arkham Batman games would have had the same impact. Of course, my Mum would not want anything so violent anywhere near me, but I had already seen Evil Dead 2, Nightmare on Elm Street and Critters by sneaking down early one morning to watch the rented VHS left on the coffee table. I was well versed in ultra violence.
This would have been the perfect game for my younger self, now you pick one.
Cool story bro!
