Xbox is providing free dedicated server hosting to our Xbox One development community
Great news for Xbox One developers as they’ll have free access to our top rated Microsoft Azure service:

Our intent was to enable developers to take advantage of server resources in their games without having to deal with the challenges that come with building, managing and running servers at scale. So, we chose to provide cloud features that allow the game creators to push the limits of their gameplay experiences and apply the bulk of their investments to game creation, rather than server and operational resources. In fact, we even give them the cloud computing power for FREE so they can more easily transition to building games on Xbox One for the cloud

There's no excuse now, every game development studio must Dedicated servers, 0r feel the wrath of gamers everywhere!

Clearly Major Nelson is engaging in hyperbole by using charged words like "Free".

EA will use their own servers but I am not sure if they will have dedicated servers available for all their games. I am sure BF4 will.

Activision is greedy enough! No need to give them ideas to make maps packs $25 each.

Just remember just because Xbox One games will run off dedicated servers doesn't mean games will be lag free.

His wording seems ambiguous. I'm not reading that as definitive that dedicated servers are free. I saw it this morning and decided to not post it because I'm not reading it the same as most others. I'm not reading cloud=dedicated servers.

Microsoft's next-gen console, Xbox One, will have dedicated servers available for all multiplayer titles, a Microsoft representative confirmed to Polygon today.

According to the representative, the servers are part of Xbox Live Compute — theconsole's cloud. Yesterday on NeoGAF, Microsoft director of marketing Albert Penello confirmed to forum users that all developers will have dedicated servers, cloud processing and storage for saves.

"If you want to do dedicated servers on other platforms, you have to prop them yourself," Penello wrote. "But on Xbox One, while developers can choose to use their own methods, we make it available to everyone."

"We offer Xbox Live Compute to all Xbox One developers for free," an Xbox rep later confirmed to Polygon.

Dedicated servers for all multiplayer games, however, isn't guaranteed, as individual developers have control over how they use Xbox Live Compute.

Xbox One launches Nov. 22. During the console's unveiling, Marc Whitten announced that it would feature more than 300,000 servers powered by cloud technology.

So both computer and dedicated servers are free and available, but no one is required to use them.

After the article came out last week about Xbox Live cloud compute resources being free for dev's someone asked Albert Penello if that included dedi's, he replied simply with 'yes'

I am of the same view as plainview.

The article mention cloud computing as free, this part is clear.

There is actually no mentioning of delicated servers being free. He only stated the advantages of xbox servers.
