Formerly known as Xbox Media Centre (XBMC) Kodi 18.0 is now available as an Xbox One media app for use in media playback.

So far working exactly the same as it does on my other devices

Where are you seeing this at? I've tried the windows store and it only lists Kodi 17.6 and that's for windows only, no xbox version to be found.

I downloaded it and installed an add-on, but nothing seems to be working. I keep getting an error that the video is unplayable regardless of what I try.

I got the same in Covenant, but i did get one video working, I think it's related to decoding filetypes, MP4s don't load, but maybe flash files and DIVX do do or something like that. Others are reporting success with Exodus.

Hopefully they'll sort it out. TBH i'm surprised it let me connect to the repos.

This post from reddit might explain some things

It’s suppressing pairing requests. Any window that attempts to pop up from one addon on top of another is being dismissed, that’s why URLresolver appears to be broken. You try to authorize RD, it can’t because the pop up is suppressed, try to watch a video on a site that requires pairing, no pairing requests. I haven’t tried PM but it may actually work since it’s a login, not a pairing situation so if someone tries it, please let us know if it works.

cCloud TV works because it has no need for pairing. I watched a few 24/7 and ABC News is up right now. If you get a black screen, pause it and hit play again and you get video.

Exodus is surprisingly working and has a good amount of 720p that doesn’t need pairing. If you need pairing though, same situation as Covenant. Also if you don’t get enough results, scrape again, it picks up more the second time around. If it’s on CDN, no pairing needed.

Covenant, Gurzil, Showbox Arize, and StreamHub are effectively broken by this since almost all free hosters require pairing.

Poseidon opens but errors whenever you try to play anything.

Cartoons8, Death Streams, BoB Unleashed, Fear of the Dark, Nemesis, Elysium crash on opening.

All in all though, considering this release isn’t even meant for the Xbox, it’s a miracle it works at all. There are a number of glitches that point to the fact that this isn’t an Xbox optimized release, the skipping in the UI when using the Xbox controller (double input when scrolling or hitting buttons, particularly hitting the B button takes you back two menus most of the time), the fact that system info doesn’t report anything about the CPU, GPU, Direct3D version, refresh rate is locked at 60hz, the Xbox doesn’t recognize the app as actually being active so you have to turn off the ten minute idle screen or it will pop up and your screen will dim after 60 minutes of no controller input period, no access to Xbox storage... Yeah, this is meant for Windows 10 on a PC, not the Xbox One. It’s the standard Windows 10 UWP got release that was straight ported to the Xbox One. That becomes even more apparent when you go to the power menu and see hibernate, suspend, and reboot as options.

I’ve cleaned up all my other posts and put everything into this one post. I’m aware that I jumped the gun and said that hosters were being blocked, they’re not, it would appear that the problem is that URLresolver cannot get its job done in the current code and the broken addons are a mystery to me right now. I’ve pretty much done all the troubleshooting I care to do at this point, I’ll wait for an actual Xbox optimized release before doing anymore testing.

I will say this though - I can’t wait to see the final version that’s optimized for the Xbox. Even in its current state, it’s pretty damn fast.

So I downloaded it, and had a gander at it, but nothing really seemed to work...

More importantly, I don't really know what its meant to do, or what I want it to do?

Is it mainly for subscription stuff, or streaming torrents and stuff?

Good question. And is a VPN needed in order to stream? As I understand it there's a loop hole with Kodi as its only streaming movies not downloading them.

Kodi is a media centre that does playback of video and audio. With the right addons (exodus, covenant) you can - illegally - stream movies and Tv shows as well as other more legal sources.

Its also got emulators ...but i dont know anything about that.

Without getting into too much detail, if you look up how to install Indigo which is a config wizard that will automatically install all you need.

Kodi is on the windows and play store, so if you have a Windows PC or android device its recommended you familiarise yourself there.

A VPN is recommended, but not required.

I downloaded it last week and had similar issues with the add-ons. Was able to browse shows but playback was not working. It being pulled probably doesn't bode well for an official optimized X1 release but we can hope.
