WTF I love Cliff now?

Still hoping this comes to Xbox because that's where I do my online gaming. Everything I've seen from this game indicates it plays well as a twitch shooter. There's not many games that fit the Unreal mold anymore and I miss them. Don't understand the comparisons to Overwatch. I own Overwatch, couldn't get into it and it's not a twitchy arena shooter.

Cliff did F up not supporting Xbox first. Despite a much smaller base, this is the type of game that would've taken off during one of Xbox's dryest gaming periods in years. It fits the demographic. The first game most people played on XBL was Unreal Championship. Xbox's gamer base sticks with their shooters longer than PlayStation gamers do. Majority of Western gamers that are enthusiast FPS gamers have a Xbox due to the controllers and XBL. I'd argue that the enthusiasts FPS gamer is the primary reason Xbox is still alive.

I agree, in this case Boss Key should have went with the Xbox even with its lower player count instead of betting on the platform with the much higher player count. Xbox is just a more shooter focused platform with its die hard fans of Halo/Gears and every other popular shooter that they log a monster amount of time in.

I haven't played either this or Overwatch but similarities seem to be related to the Hero Shooter coat of paint they both use. I remember seeing a video of Cliffy B and some of his team when they were talking about seeing the Overwatch trailer for the first time. They were all like "Ohhhh FCK" because of how similar their game looked. According to them the hero astetic was purely coincidental and they don't play anything alike.

I'm not a player of online competitive multiplayer shooters any more. And yet, I can't stop watching videos of Lawbreakers. It just looks like a blast to play running around and then having gravity getting all loopy where you're pretty much flying around.

I wish I had tried the beta on PS4 when it was available. I'm too chicken sh!t to take a chance on buying this now. I just think I'll get stomped on so I'll stick with watching streams.

Hmmm......a hardcore, arena based shooter made by the Gears of War guy. On top that it's priced right with the developer taking the long view. With a small team and having to make choice I get why Cliff would chase the larger install base first but clearly this game would resonate more the Xbox gamers. Why? Because it's a hardcore, arena based shooter made by the Gears of War guy.

Over half of my shooter friends who I used to shoot with in games like the Gears last gen now shoot on PS4 with most just owning PS4 this gen where last gen for some it was just 360.
I am a shooter guy and find the PS4 to be my format of choice for shooters this gen as well.

I believe the issues are because of lack of marketing and TERRIBLE lag the 1st 2 days.
Releasing on a less popular console instead would of made matters much worse.

Lawbreakers is a dudebro game. Xbox is a dudebro box. The attach rate would likely be much higher on Xbox. Cliff likely doesn't even resonate with PlayStation gamers.

No Xbox WAS a dude bro box.
PlayStation is the home of the best 3rd FPS party exclusive content/marketing rights.
Nothing bigger this year than Destiny 2,SW BF2 or COD WW2.

Xbox has??? Oh I know BF1

Destiny and Star Wars are not dude bro games. It's vanilla mass market bulls***. COD this year looks admittedly cool though. But back on topic lawbreakers would get a bigger push on Xbox.

Neither are vanilla.. Maybe not dude bro but EASILY will be the most played by shooter fans and ONLY Gears 4 is dude bro on X1 where PS4 has Lawbreakers that's 1-1. So tell me how X1 is still the home of the dude bro again?
Last gen yes with Gears and the previous with Unreal Championship.
One game or the way MS handled its gaming image in the past holds no weight today.

Lawbreakers is likely coming to Xbox. Cliff has even said that. It's a timed exclusive at best because the team is so small.

No doubt its a possibility but its not out now and I would be afraid of how it turns out on XBO...
Still doesn't change PS4 being the more popular place to play shooters, which makes it a better place to release on 1st.

The game is bombing. It's a multiplayer game. PS4 doesn't seem to support. No wonder PUBG is going Xbox first.

PS4 doesn't seem to support shooters? LOL tell that to the more players on 3rd party games that play on PS4.
MS paid for PUBG,PUBG on consoles will be big and its a nice grab for X1 but...it will be even bigger when PS4 gets it.

All of my shooter buddies on Live/360 moved on to shooting on XB One.

I wish this game came out on XB One, I would try it out.

I'm sure it will eventually. Last gen when Microsoft was writing the checks he seemed reluctant to even talk about PlayStation. Now that he's freed from the evil reigns like Bungie and other devs you can tell he's enjoying life more. Give it time. PS4 is the lead platform this gen, like 360 was last gen so no surprise it gets the special treatment.

You have to know your audience for certain games. I admit games like Gravity Rush, The Last Guardian, and JRPGs will do better on PlayStation. A in your face multiplayer arena shooter not so much.

Let's be honest. The game had such exclusionary marketing approaches. They thought that if they focus entirely on "influencers," normal people would want to feel like they could taste the lives of the rich and famous and buy the game. They showcased all of the top influencers playing the game at the most exclusive events, drinks in hand. They were supposed to be worshiped.

The opposite occurred. It was so exclusionary, it made people feel like they would be unwelcomed to the Lawbreakers "party."

Kinda makes me glad this game failed in that respect.

Edit: Not good game marketing: "If you can't handle this tough game, sorry. This is for high level players with skills."

I didn't pay attention to the marketing but yeah if it revolved mainly around iJustine and others giving it push that's a turnoff considering the game. It's just too cool for its own good.

The game failed because

1) Hero shooter like Overwatch - people already had their fill
2) Came too late
3) Released in August
4) Chasing the console crowd

The game should have

1) Released for PC first
2) Released as preview so keeps mind share
3) Should have had enough differentiation from Overwatch or be so much better than OW
4) Release for holiday \ spring - not summer especially if marketing is word of mouth

For me it was too twitchy. That might be age talking a bit there. Also, seemed like too much was going on. I did try to join a beta match, but it was empty, so never really had the opportunity to see if I would've liked it.

I haven't played Lawbreakers or much of Overwatch. But I've been following Lawbreakers for some time now, been addicted to streams and videos of the game. After my observations Lawbreakers doesn't seem to have anything in common with Overwatch outside class based heroes to use.

Lawbreakers doesn't seem to play like anything I've seen. It breaks the rules of gravity to give a true 3D shooter experience. Overwatch is very much a grounded shooter in the traditional sense. Lawbreakers classes have the ability to takeout any other whereas in Overwatch there are real counters to many of the classes where certain classes don't have much of a chance against another. And Lawbreakers speed is jacked way up over Overwatch.

I think what did Lawbreakers in was its lack of marketing. And what marketing was done seemed to lean towards the obnoxious. The whole "Skilled as Fuq" tagline was in many of the vids I seen in the lead up to release. I know they were trying to get the message across of no handholding with more skill involved but it just came off as douchey.

Another thing is, I underestimated the lack of support or hate for Cliffy B from gamers. I've watched quite a few videos of him promoting Lawbreakers and I can now see why he isn't liked that much. He's a cocky dude and I can see how he can be considered a jerk because of some of his colorful or snarky remarks. He seems to like to flaunt his success and that't not going to endear you to many. It seems like there are many out there who want to see Cliffy B fail.

Cliff Bleszinski Doesn't Rule Out Free-To-Play Shift For LawBreakers
Despite constant attention from developer Boss Key Productions, LawBreakers continues to struggle with player counts. Recently, CEO and designer Cliff Bleszinski admitted it might take extreme measures to keep the title afloat, including a potential switch to a free-to-play model.

In a somewhat confusing-to-read interview from GameSpot (thanks to the author failing to denote the questions and answers beyond the first couple of paragraphs), Bleszinski leaves the door open to LawBreakers going F2P, however, he feels the game isn't there yet:

...60 dollars is a lot of money [for a video game]. Even 100 dollars for all the special editions that you see coming out. And I was of the belief that $29.99 ... It's pretty much an impulse buy. And did it help? Did it hurt? Should it have gone free? Maybe. Would we consider experimenting with that in the future? I wouldn't remove it from the table.

Bleszinski calls free-to-play "sleazy"; he doesn't want to be on the nose with LawBreakers' "fledgling community". That said, he's cognisant that the company's hand may be forced if the game expands into other markets:

Well, we're considering in the future, rolling the game out in Asia. It's one of those things that you almost have to do that in Asia, so we'll be considering doing that, maybe one of those things if we do it there, would it make sense to roll it back out to the states? Possibly. But, I don't want to start doing gun rentals any time soon in game.

Hard times for CliffyB, though pretty much par for the course for a majority of independent developers.

I'd be willing to give the game a go when it's free. I played Paragon a fair bit at the start of the year, and enjoyed that, but having only one game mode stifled it rather quickly.

Goodluck to the game though.
