Marathon (2025)

Yeah, so it is dead.

The worst part is there was no real effort to make the mode what it needed to be.
Nope at first it felt like a tacked on mode, over the year they made some changes/additions that made it MW2’s best/most fun mode. Wish they would’ve kept building on it. I just couldn’t pull friends/my two boys away from WZ/Fortnite and I didn’t like playing it solo that much. Then again this looks to be Zombies best outing. I loved Outbreak in Cold War a more open zombies mode that let you run quests on a big map was a lot of fun.

The very fact they are killing it shows how poor and unpopular this afterthought was/is. You may like it but that doesn't change the fact that this mode is years of dev time away from being what it needs to be. An actual extraction shooter.

Didn’t Battlefield try an extraction shooter mode? I never tried it.

Or Tencent
I was gonna say them, but they already have a relationship with the former. But hey, money talks, and if they need the money to spinoff into being independent again, that may be their best option….theyre still working with them on some mobile projects, unless they’ve been canceled, but I haven’t heard or seen anything in relation, so um, why’d I eat so much pizza, so many carbs 😆

.......

Within the company, there is a growing expectation that senior company leadership will leave in droves in the summer of 2026 when the final payouts from Sony's acquisition of the company take effect. With this in mind, there is a strong push to get Marathon out the door before then, and let whoever takes the reins after that (be it Sony or Bungie) worry about how it's sustained.

That isn't a good change.

Maybe the can become a support studio for studios that need mp, they can aid with Spider-Man, or maybe take over for the horizon mp?
Doubt Playstation with all their money issues will do that, but even if they did, it wouldn't be Bungie for long.

Hell, it is even the Bungie that left Xbox now. Just like other studios like Dice they once renowned and beloved studios get diluted over time and fall to ruin.

This whole thing is exactly what is wrong with the gaming industry. Take a studio that was known for Halo and now Destiny and oh extraction shooters are making money now, and you know what makes more money? Hero shooter microtransactions! Meanwhile, nobody is asking for this from Bungie, and people that like those kinds of games already play the ones that already exist.

They look at monetization before looking at what gamers want to play.

Instead, they should make a game that people want to play, then monetize that. People will buy stuff for games they find fun. Instead, they just build around the trends and monetization without thinking.

I haven't seen one Destiny fan who's really super interested in this, and I doubt they pull in the Apex community.

What extraction shooters are making money. Tarkov is pretty much it. All the others die quick because they don't put in the effort or required features/systems.
