Microsoft At E3 2018

So taking in all the little bits around the internet from Insiders, I have my expectations tempered for microsoft 1st party this E3 even more than before. Doesn’t sound like Microsoft will have a big 1st party presence this year. Even Halo might not make the show unless Microsoft adds a FMV movie. Sounds like no gameplay is ready to be shown.

Should be something Gears of War, Crackdown to 2019, potentially a kart racer...and a lot of road map talk. Microsoft seems to have most 1st party resources pointed at next gen and will be banking on enhanced 3rd party games, extra Japanese support and new ways to access your games as things to bide everyone’s attention until 2020.

Spencer saying this is Microsoft’s biggest show seems to have more to do with Cloud, streaming and Game Pass.

I believe the state of Microsoft’s 1st party was much more dire than they let on. They apparently had small teams working on SOD2 and SOT until the end of development. (I’d say these rumors appear to be true based on the state those games released which makes me think other rumors were true). 1st party had next to no funding past few years. Unless Microsoft buys a studio, it’s going to be awhile on the exclusives folks.
I hope this is not true. It would be a huge mistake.

Actually, I agree. Weird.

All of the companies are making money, so I don’t think any of them need E3 to be great (from a business perspective).

However, Sony has shown its hand, and taking a deeper look at just a few upcoming games is interesting. They all look good, and they are already riding the wave, so I can see why they going in that direction.

MS has the most to gain if they hit a home run. Phil has had enough time, and I think they could even take a page from Sony and show some stuff that’s a ways off. But the lack of rumors thus far is concerning.

However, I look at a game like Rage 2, which NO ONE even knew a tiny bit about, and boom, a potentially high quality game from a big developer comes out of nowhere...AND is far along in development.

So I still have some hope we might see a few unexpected big things. Maybe.

I wonder if Microsoft having everything in their own event location this year is helping them keep the lid on tight.

MS has been announcing games that are years from release this entire generation so it's not really taking a page from Sony's book anymore.

Doubt it. Usually the leaks come directly from an employee of MS's in some form or another and not really from outside sources.

I would say E3 is the most important part of the year business wise. So yeah, a great E3 is needed.

I could swear there’s a recent interview somewhere where Phil says at his first all-hands meeting, whilst in charge, he unveiled their new road map. Then he said how proud he is of his team not leaking anything they showed at that day.

When was this exactly? Cause Phil took over years a go and we have had plenty of leaks since then.

To me, it seems like we just keep repeating the same positions we expressed a couple weeks ago. I don't feel like repeating my opinion again.

Good news about the MCC. I expect a release date at E3.
People really seem to love the spiral of negativity...

I think there's an attempt to manage expectations, too.

I don't want my expectations managed! I want to be full of HYPE followed by CRUSHING DISAPPOINTMENT.

Nothing wrong with that but that's not what I'm seeing. We don't know anything for sure, so it makes no sense to be negative.

If ends up sucking, we can be all poo-ey then. Is it too much to ask for some optimism? If it isn't justified in the end, then we'll get to hear that negativity and nauseam, you know? It all just brings down what should be an exciting time in the industry.

Well, I assume they see it as realism, not negativism.

I get the feeling that a lot of the optimism (about E3 anyhow) has been sucked out of Xbox fans over the past 2 or 3 years. I think there's a kind of guardedness about it -- "let's not get our hopes up." I don't blame them. I think it's only because I'm coming into this Xboptimism (?) fresh that I have a relatively easy time getting my hopes up.

Yeah, seems to me like theres a "trigger" for Xbox games that can easily, EASILY go South real quick with everything they do in the gas department. You can clearly see Microsoft is going in on new software and will have a slew of things to be shown at E3. But, I'm betting that "this is Microsoft so they REALLY need to earn it, trigger" will be ticked without even thinking about it.

Hell, CD3 could have the cloud destruction in place on reveal, and I'm betting people will trash it for something. And the review scores will hover btw 6.5 and 7.5.

And, anyone else notice the stark contrast from review scores of SoD2 and people playing the game now? Like, "wait. I thought the reviews said this game was pretty much a waste?" People are even calling out some of the reviewers for claiming false information within the game.

Did you post this with a tinfoil hat on?

And Crackdown 3 could have the cloud destruction and still not be great you know. I know the idea of an Xbox exclusive that doesn't equal rainbows and blow jobs sounds crazy to you but it is possible.

Funny how that never gets said for positivity.

I don't think many here like the negativity, but we are in a place where it can't be ignored.
Perhaps because positivity is more fun in a hobby than negativity? It's not even that there are critical comments, but that they are getting pretty redundant.

Optimism makes things more enjoyable and negativity just feels like s***. That's a good enough reason, imo. Were I given a choice to pick one or the other to have more of, I'd pick optimism over pessimism. That's just me though.

I don't mind the negative or pessimistic views. Everyone has a different perspective. That's fine. The negative views are interesting to read. It's just another opinion to me. It doesn't change my perspective. The only thing that bothered me was that we were just repeating ourselves.

I'm still hoping for a good show:

  • Two good new AAA exclusives (at least one of which appeals to me)
  • Halo 6 unveiling
  • X-enhanced MCC release date
  • Other X-enhanced BC announcements
  • One or two other nice surprises
  • Minimal BS marketing talk

So are comments like this one though. I mean be optimistic for the sake of it even though there really isn't anything to be optimistic about? really? Negativity only feels like s*** when it is forced or untrue. Optimism also feels like s*** when it is constantly trampled on.

f*** that.

Their 3rd party showing should be good. They have the marketing rights to some good games.

Nah, you can temper expectations without being a persistent downer.... well.. maybe YOU can't ;)
