Microsoft At E3 2018

DYVdKVKXcAA9V9e

Well damn.... about time if true.

Something big will happen...if not this E3 then soon. A new Xbox mid gen. Spencer’s promotion. Nadella talking games and making it clear Microsoft will be prioritizing gaming. Rumors of buyouts. New divisions based on gaming.

Microsoft is a mega corporation who used to treat gaming like a small, cute, side project. Now that they’re considering it a major piece to their business and integrating it with their overall larger strategy. It will be super interesting to see what moves they’ll start making. They will be aggressive.

Let's see what they really have. The significant investment in games might have only started recently so they still not have much besides their usual franchises.

Well damn.... about time if true.

I have a friend that works at MS too and he said that wasn't true. He said they opened a division to keep new IPs away from Xbox. Not sure which is true, but my source is more accurate at least.

. They will be aggressive.

....and they are really the only one out of the 3 hardware companies that has the warchest to actually BE aggressive. Microsoft can throw around moneyhats the way Sony and Nintendo can't. Realistically Sony and Nintendo don't have to do that, but Microsoft is in such a situation that they need to start doing something.
What else are you going to do with all that cheddar?

Could this be the return to OG Xbox thinking? I hope so.

I wouldnt count on it. We're quite likely past the mid point of this generation. Nintendos relying on the WiiUs and 3DS library to prop up the Switch despite promising for years they were going to make sure a steady stream of games were going to be there and over half of Sonys first parties wont put out another game this gen.

I cant really see an extended need to go overboard on moneyhats when Microsofts studios are on the cusp of second wave games and Sonys will be deciding which games are for PS5.

Microsoft is winning on remasters and indies, so theres not a great incentive to do much there.

They should just concentrate on consistant output on normal games. They shouldnt seek to put out half a dozen bad VR games like some publishers do just because.

Ideally

Halo spinoff (not wars)
Gears spinoff
Forza spinoff (PGR revival)
Minecraft spinoff
Fable (and a sequel every 2 years)
Old favourites (Perfect Dark, Battletoads, Mechassault)
All mainlines of the above in perpetuity...really, really just shove it down peoples throats.
1 new ip every 4 years...as long as its a big one.

This is a really bad plan in my opinion. With the release of the new hardware, the gaming community chanting about new IP's, they can Ill afford to "wait" to do anything. Definitely don't want to bring out ANY spin offs of existing franchises (although a good idea) just yet. At least without proof that they've invested in brand new IP's and are making real headway in that department. Can you imagine the backlash?!

GAMING COMM: "Its still Gears, Forza and Halo. Who cares? Microsoft has lost touch, etc, etc..

By putting new IP's off, they further damage the faith in the brand with the gaming community. I can assure you, they won't wait to capitalize. And I'm sure there's games that have been in the works for some time. Just because we're just hearing about it, doesn't mean it hasn't been in the works well before word leaked. Forward thinking isn't just a cool tagline. Some people take that seriously. Microsoft does, for sure.

I just hope they bring some new IP's that aren't focused on being service based, with so many 3rd parties having MP focused games and many seemingly moving over to the GAAS model they need something that gives people an experience they can only get on xbox not something that's like 20 other games they can get on both the Xbox One and PS4. I do worry about their commitment to that type of game with the comments made by Spencer and others at Xbox as well with how everything is going to launch on GP, that type of set up almost requires games with a big investment be service based otherwise people will just sign up for one month and finish the game and cancel, there needs to be a hook to keep people playing.

Yeah kind of like a hypochondriac, keep saying it long enough and eventually you will have something :p

For someone so "up" on console and PC technology, you sure seem to get "realistic" whenever something Xbox gets mentioned.

Legit, if you're paying attention you can see a trend setting with the recent announcements. The theater is a statement in and of itself. I won't go into it though. I'll just remind you when E3 comes.

Slightly off topic, but I'll get to the point. I must own up to being wrong back when Microsoft was making Kinect games. I said that Microsoft wouldn't be held back in regular games development because of Kinect. They were and are a huge enough company to just pile Kinect development on top of what they had already been capable of producing. Still, between Kinect and their upcoming Xbox One, the exclusive games DID actually dry up a bit at the end of the 360 cycle. The problem is that there must have been a spending cap on the Xbox division made by the Microsoft Sr management.

Why this is completely relevant to right now, is...VR. I think I can say that I'm 95% certain that they will deliver a VR/MR thing of some kind at E3 or even before. They actually promised it for 2018 last year. To hear that Microsoft may actually be doubling or even tripling down on games as a media division gives me a bit of a sigh of relief. Sony seems to be spreading development out quite well, with their VR business on top of their standard game development. It's a good model, but I'd like to see Microsoft do even better. I really hope that these rumours about them getting real with the games are true.

They always have a ton of games at their conference, generally they make a big deal about how many they have and the vast majority are 3rd party, last year they made a huge deal about the number with console exclusivity in some form and the vast majority were indie games. Spencer said not that long ago that they signed a few deals but it was going to be a while before they had anything to show. Acting like you have some big prediction because they may announce games at E3 is a bit silly isn't it? that's generally where big games are announced lol.

As far as the theater, that is good for people who attend the conference because more people will have access to the games that are there, it doesn't mean that they have anything bigger than the usual announcements coming of course it doesn't mean they don't either but it seems to me like it's more of a way to get some attention and to evolve along with E3 now that it is open to the public.

Gamers can chant all they like. New IP has been more miss than hit this gen. I would much rather be on an ongoing repeating cycle of constant games in ips that especially get backlash, so as to demonstrate that they arent going away. Ever.

How can Microsoft 'move on' from anything when 4/5 studios make billion dollar IP and the cancellation of a Fable MOBA (not even a real fable) makes everyone lose their minds?

MS needs to acknowledge they have heard us loud and clear. Not only are these games not getting cancelled, they're going to come twice as often. Halo. Yes. Forza. Yes. Fable. Yes. Gears. Yes. Minecraft. Yes. Add in Sea of Thieves. Yes. Spin offs for all. Yes. Forever. And ever. And ever. Yes.

I look at what Forza has done to Gran Turismo and how yearly CoD, and FIFA have risen to highest highs through repitition and basically no gaps. Persistance pays off.

I’m posting this in this thread because I find it encouraging for E3. If they are showing these games now, that should save a lot of time on their E3 presentation for...?

Microsoft Will Showcase More Than 17 New Games At GDC 2018 Via ID@Xbox Program

GDC 2018 will soon be here and while there are a lot of things to be excited about as Microsoft will be bringing over 50 games for demonstration at this event. They will also be showcasing quite a large number of indie games for the Xbox One via the ID@Xbox Program.

The newly announced games include Apocalypse Cow, 9 Monkeys of Shaolin, BackSlash, Can’t Drive This, Flipping Death, Thief of Thieves, Dead Ahead: Zombie Warfare, Tormental, Russian Subway Dogs, Squadron 51 and more. You can check out the full list of games here. There are certainly a lot of games to be excited for at this event including Zoink Games’ next title Flipping Death and major titles such as the MMORPG Black Desert.

GDC is set to begin on March 19 and will go on until March 23. With over 50 titles at the event, Microsoft seems to have a lot of upcoming games planned for its playerbase.

Except I don't think MS is thinking in terms of generations any longer. I think once the Game Pass hit their roadmap, they came to the same conclusion that Netflix and Amazon and Hulu have all come to - these services are fine and everything, but you really need to have exclusive content to stand out.

I wonder if services like Game Pass are really the future. I agree consoles and generations aren't, but I think the allure of evergreen titles kind of butts up against the idea of a "Netflix for games" service.

Netflix is basically a collection of single player games. You watch a series (play a game) once then move on to the next one, maybe returning to a series you really love a year or two later.

I just don't see how a Netflix service appeals to the people who play Fortnite, League of Legends, and Counter Strike.

I have no worries with MS and games. I think they know exactly what we want, I just think that takes time.

Agree 100%. The first company that figures out GAAS for single player games is going to make bank. It does seem more difficult to

I just hope GaaS don't become the ONLY thing they focus on. I hope they get the message that there are many types of games that gamers like, and they aren't just subscription based. They need another "Wow" factor game.

Oh i agree with exclusive content. I just dont think we will ever see anything like the PS2/GC/Xbox gen again where you could expect a dozen exclusives a year and the sequel out the following year. Thats unfortunately where the Indie scene fills the gaps and because of the Creators Club we will see hundreds of Xclusives there.

Im just against variety for varietys sake. I'd rather MS go all in on a big, sustainable ip that lasts years and years (or at least to a point where haters start to complain that 4 games is 'too much') then 25 c tier one and dones.

Xbox Executive Confirms Next Forza Game Reveal At E3

The next Forza will be revealed at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference according to Fernanda Delgado, head of the Xbox team in Spain and Portugal. The reveal was made during a conversation with Gamereactor and Delgado did indicate that the new game will be Forza Horizon 4.

This is not unexpected news – Forza is an annual franchise with the Motorsport and Horizon games alternating every year. Delgado did not specify the location of the next Horizon festival but fan speculation on websites like ResetEra point to Japan. Previous locations within the Forza Horizonseries include the state of Colorado, southern Europe and Australia. ““There have been many speculations about where the next Forza Horizon will be and that is what we will tell later at E3,” said Delgado.

While Forza Motorsport is closer to a racing simulation game, the Forza Horizon series offers an open world experience with hidden secrets, seamless online play and most recently, the ability to create and share your own race events.

The Inner Circle will be sending a team to E3 this year and we will be sure to let you know all of the new details about Forza Horizon 4and all of the other great games that will be revealed this year.

With Horizon 3 selling so well STILL, seems they could put off FH4 so as not to dip into what is essentially free money with FH3 at this time.

Well, if Microsoft is really betting on Gamepass (and they seem to be with all 1st party hitting day one), and gamers respond to that, then I think they have to bet heavily on first party to attract gamers ongoing in perpetuity. I've been a Netflix (streaming) member since 2008 when it first hit. The content was hit and miss in the beginning and they had no exclusive "new" content. We kept it mostly for the kid and the occasional movie we missed, etc. Fast forward to now and Netflix is the sh*t. I don't know anybody that doesn't have a sub. For Microsoft to succeed in this with gamers (a smaller audience), they need to frontload with new exclusive content that is quality stuff that will move people to the platform and service. With the current model, it shouldn't really even matter when this content hits as long as they are committed to enhancing the games for the next wave of hardware (i.e. future compatible). I think it's clear that Microsoft wants full backward/forward compatibility to a point (i.e. OG Xbox one will cycle out at some point) which makes the "when a game releases" a moot point (re: releasing games close to a new hardware release). In my opinion, the "killer" for Gamepass would be to roll in the Gold sub at a nominal additional cost or hell, no additional cost.

We can all hope that this is true.

The last 16 years of Microsoft has essentially been hobbyist in terms of gaming push. 360 was like they were playing fantasy football and you accidentally won the Superbowl.

If Satya and Phil are viewing the netflix of gaming as the next meaningful service in their porfolio, they will fight tooth and claw. 100 million consoles is gonna be chump change over the next 30 years.

I really hope they do deliver something impressive this E3. I feel like I've heard similar promises building up to the last three E3's, only to come away underwhelmed. Maybe 4th time is the charm.
