Microsoft At E3 2018

Maybe they could just say that compatibility with the S is optional next time. Yeah, eventually there's going to be a gap of some sort. Still, what about less demanding games? I don't think those developers should be locked out, either. I say, let the developers decide historical support.

It'll always be optional though and always has been after a gen changes as far as I know, they aren't going to tell a dev not to do it. The problem is for people who buy a One X or PS4 Pro thinking they are future proof, these machines still have outdated CPU's, they are just allowing us to play prettier versions of the same games the base consoles were already capable of playing.

I'm probably going to buy a next-gen Xbox. PS5, too, so I guess I'll be a two-console owner next gen.

they want you to buy a new console because it means you are likely going to lock yourself into their ecosystem for a long time to come.

You'll see some games still appear on them like you always do, sports games and the annual release shooters will likely be made on both sets of machines for an extra year or two but I don't believe you are going to see the big open world RPG's etc that launch in 2021 and beyond have to run on the X1 or PS4.

At risk of sounding like a broken record, you're a thousand times more locked in their ecosystem when you're already there. Why on earth would selling you a new console (with risk of you not buying it) be a stronger ecosystem? That's the opposite of how I see it.

PS4 is different. Very different. I don't see that happening, and it will bite them, IMO.

Trust me, XBox One X won't be able to play XBox Two games. There will be a clean cut once the next generation XBox hits.
Wanna bet?

LOL! Some of you guys never learn. You play video games and have been for years. But I swear to Christ, some of you guys take your gaming super powers a little too serious. Gaming doesn't equal experience in the gaming industry. Phil isn't backing up on the "no one left behind" mantra. At least not before they actually put it in play and test the waters. Integrity is HUGE with major companies like Microsoft. Don't speak some s*** and not do it! Someone is ALWAYS watching.

Next box and the X WILL play the same games. Bank on it.

This is funny.

Let's not forget that a big component of the lead-in to Scorpio was that MS wanted to make it so that the work of building games for various targets inside the XBox family of devices was not something left up to the developers, but up to MS itself. If a game becomes so demanding that it simply can't run on the CPU inside the S/X, sure, there may be nothing that can be done, but MS is a company that does operating systems first and foremost. My expectation is that any game launched at any point within the XB2 "generation" (which I'd say is from launch in 2020 until the XB2 X refresh becomes replaced by the XB3) will be playable on the launch version of the XB1, although it may be a slideshowy low-res AC:Unity experience at best.

Xbox E3 2018 briefing sets Twitch record of 1.7 million concurrent viewers

With no new consoles announced this year, E3 2018 was all about the games. And more gamers than any other year tuned in to Twitch for all the latest breaking news and big announcements from the gaming industry... for the second year in a row, Microsoft's livestream was the highest viewed stream on Twitch... Xbox E3 briefing wasn't just the most watched live event of this year's convention… it was also the highest concurrent viewer count of any stream ever on Twitch, pulling in an impressive 1.7 million viewers... Compared to last year's E3, Microsoft's briefing saw an impressive increase of 600,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch — which doubled the 818,000 viewers they had back in 2016.
The top five livestreams are listed below.
  1. Xbox — 1.7 million concurrent viewers
  2. Ubisoft — 1.6 million concurrent viewers
  3. PlayStation — 1.5 million concurrent viewers
  4. Bethesda — 964,000 concurrent viewers
  5. PC Gaming Show — 893,000 concurrent viewers
It's great to see Microsoft garner so much attention. The move to Sunday makes it so even more gamers can watch the livestream as it's a holiday almost everywhere in the world. Hopefully this success will continue in the future when the company reveals even more compelling experiences at its event.
