Microsoft buying Obsidian Entertainment

I think MS should improve their game Quality control, I said before, most Games are NOT modern art. You can monitor how good a game is along the way with proper QC.

What if it failed to gain an audience like sunset overdrive or quantum break? Platinum seems to be on a fine line contract work like that of tell tales...

That's a shame because both of those games were fantastic

While they're at it, someone wrangle chris avellone and force him to write all the games.

Obsidian and chris avellone. They must be together. Together. Forever

Obsidian is awesome so would be great for MS, especially a new Kotor. Just need these to be Play Anywhere and I'll be happy.

I think it's a great acquisition. I also think since Obsidian has experience (Fallout NV; Alpha Protocol), they should be making RPGs in the vein of Fallout/Skyrim/Dragon Age/Alpha Protocol for both PC and Xbox. The isometric games can also be fun but no longer as immersive/fun for me. If they had 2 teams (1 doing each type), that would be cool. I have no problem with the isometric games being on Xbox as well. Here's hoping this is a go and Obsidian can make some crazy good games.

That's fine... just buy Sega at the same time

That kind of acquisition, while extraordinarily far fetched and very expensive, would totally be a landscape changer. By purchasing Sega, MS would scoop up, Atlus, Sports Interactive, Creative Assembly, Amplitude Studios and Relic Entertainment. Their presence in the PC game space would most definitely be bolstered and their relations in the Japanese console space would increase tremendously. But it might be a case of having too many development studios. Plus I wonder what MS would do with all those Pachislot and Pachinko Machines. :)

The problem with a purchase like that though would be that there are tons of redundancy in buying a publisher. There would be a buttload of unnecessary jobs that would get people thrown out, most more then likely on the Sega side of things.

That's why any rumors that have big publishers are always suspect outside of when MS was absolutely new to consoles and tried to buy Nintendo and their own publishing crew were minuscule in comparison.

It would be cool to see them snag Creative Assembly though. Relic would be a good fit too.
