Microsoft offers $100 to 'ditch your PS3' for an Xbox One

In promotional emails, the software giant is offering $100 towards an Xbox One when people "ditch" Sony’s PlayStation 3. The trade-in deal is only available at Microsoft’s retail stores in the US, and it applies to the PS3, Xbox 360 S, or Xbox 360 E.

Can also trade in the Xbox 360 E and S edition for $100 credit and the promotion is in Canada too, I think.
 
I prefer to keep my PS3. I could get more than $100 selling it on Craigslist.
 
Business strategies. Costs and marketing expenditures....

MS: Third party DLC exclusivity or timed exclusivity, looks like some kind of trade-in program against PS3, buy up third party franchises (Gears)

Sony: Lots of PS+ partnership deals paying companies for access to free games, buy up entire studios like GG, ND, Sucker Punch, Evolution etc.... Sony has been doing this for generations I believe starting with Psygnosis where they second they bought them, Psygnosis cancelled making games for Saturn

At the minimal I will use more subtle words like 'Trade in' instead of 'Ditch'
 
My PS3 has been sitting in my closet for months. You mean to tell me i coulda got $100 off my Xbox One and you didn't tell me sooner Microsoft?
 
I thought that was an odd move by MS. This isn't the first time they've done it. They tried to tell people that they will pay you to ditch iPad and buy toward Surface (it happened last fall of '13.)
 
Can't you already get close to that by taking it to ebgames?
 
I'll keep my PS3 and the huge backlog of games instead of the three or so decent ones available now. Thanks anyways.
 
Seems like a decent deal, but like others have said, with that marketing they are holding no punches back. Not sure how to feel about it honestly.
 
My local gamestop have better deal, for trading in xbox 360 for xbox one.

But I am not expert on marketing. maybe it works.
 
Honestly it's a terrible time to get rid of the PS3 or 360 for that matter.

Deal should be $200 or at least $150.
 
The real question is what will MS do with all those PS3s? Is MS building a rocket to the sun?
 
I sold my PS3 to help pay for my PS4. Just like I sold one of my old Xbox 360 S consoles to help pay for my Xbox One.

MS is going to backwards engineer their next console, the Xbox Two, using the POWA of the CELL from the PS3. Oh no I DI INT!
 
If they did that over here for a £100 I would happily hand mine over, and my 360 if they did it for that .
 
I thought this was a hoax or something. But wow marketing just got real, I guess the gloves are off and nothing is off limits going forward. So if I see a Helghast soldier teabag Master Chief I won't be surprised.

The gloves have been off since day one. Sony has used their fair share of bush league tactics. Like the Kevin Butler ads completely trashing Kinect.
 
That picture is pretty much my thought. Why would anybody trade in a PS3 for only $100 towards a console that then costs the same amount as the PS4? lol. They would just save the console & buy a PS4 instead. Not really much incentive there.

You have a point. If they are serious, they should give a bit more. Or why not just lower the price tag of xbox one.
