Good news for those who "need" this sort of thing! More at the link below:

Xbox One owners will see more native 1080p resolution games in the future, according to Boyd Multerer, director of development for Xbox.

Speaking to Xbox: The Official Magazine, Multerer explained it's just a matter of time until game creators optimize development for Xbox One. "I fully expect [more 1080p games] to happen," he said. "The [graphics processing units] are really complicated beasts this time around."

Multerer also commented on launch titles for Xbox One, pointing out that developers didn't have the time to fully explore the capabilities of the console. But they will, he claimed. "The hardware is basically baked, and what comes next is people discovering better software techniques to take advantage of it, especially in the ordering of the data so it flows through all the caches correctly, and I think there's a lot of opportunity there," said Multerer.

It's such a frivolous thing to focus on... it's a contention mostly with people who don't even own the platform. Dev's should be focusing on delivering games that maintain framerate better instead IMO.

Don't think they should succumb to the pressure. If the hardware is better optimized at 900p or lower, they should focus on that res instead and focus on improving game performances.

I think 900p with better effects, textures and performance > 1080p with lowered effects, textures and performance.

At what cost?
Not even sure there will be a cost. There are a number of things in the cards coming up for the XBO that could essentially make it more comfortable to achieve 1080p res without sacrificing too much, if anything at all. We'll see though. "On parity" should be the phrase we remember most right now. As long as thats achieved, no worries.:)

I will take both 1080p and better effects/performance all in one if they can do it though.

Pfft 4k1/120fps or nothing!

Honestly though, is it really going to make a difference? Will it be that big of a deal once this begins to happen? So what if both consoles are on parity? It'll be interesting to see just how much a difference this makes with gamers once more 1080p games begin to show up.

I was enjoying the heck out of Titan fall for the last 5 days. Was having the time of my life and then I recently found out its only 792p. I quickly broke the game disk up in pieces and threw it away. The new rule of thumb is its got to be 60fps and at least 1080p or its trash. Same can be said about forza 5. I had probably logged about 50 hours into that game and that includes doing my own custom tunes and setups for each track probably one of the best simulation racers I've ever played BUT I found out the other day the crowds of people on the sidelines are NOT rendered in full 3d. they're freaking cutouts!!! Talk about ruining the game experience! number one rule when buying a racing simulation game, Make sure it has full 3d beautiful renderd crowds. That went into the trash too. :(

Hmm...okay I guess. Although, in my opinion, all the best games so far this gen have NOT been 1080p, so whatever.

I doubt I could even tell the difference between 900 and 1080. I'm all about the framerate. 60fps or bust!

thats exactly how i feel they're bending to people who don't even want the console in the first place, they'll end up bashing something else like FPS not being 60fps they'll always find something.

Probably hard to do on the Xbox One because of the ESRAM. Seems to have problems rendering 1080p while sustaining great effects/performance.

I am sure both consoles will have a hard time doing it. But I can remain optimistic.

that sort of bottleneck is supposedly what the new dev tools and coding techniques will eliminate. Much like the issues getting the most out of the cell, Sony devs just had to learn how to do it... no different with MS and the X1 in my opinion.

Games out so far have shown the PS4 is doing it more easily than the Xbox One though. Whether that is due to the better hardware or software tools or a combination of both is up for discussion.

Yup. We can only hope that is the case.

The PS4 has more powerful hardware, so of course. But they are both struggling, whether one struggles more or less.

Okay, if you want to use the word struggle then the PS4 is struggling less evidenced by the number of multiplatform developers using 1080p on the PS4 and sub 1080p on the Xbox One while having similar game performances.

Agreed. I imagine with time, the Xbox One will be all 1080p with decent performance, and the PS4 will be all 1080p with better performance.
