In game screens, looks great IMO.

I liked the lightning FX done for Black Adam and Raiden in INJUSTICE 2. I'm hoping all the attention to Raiden's character development and moves pays off here. He's been my main character since MK1 in the arcade.

I hope his lightning gets a new sound effect and that they always use a longer bolt instead of a cosmic snowball :) Raiden and Sub Zero have always been my favorites but this is one fighting series where I really do like almost all of the characters.

So much hype I hate it for killing my excitement for Smash Bros release lol. Haters can hate but the Savage 21 song is awesome. I love the MK2 Scorpion and judging by pics we'll have Injustice 2 style armor variants. Also speculation of a tag team mode based on the two Scorpions in the trailer, and the fact that Raiden dies quickly to the second, like his life was still drained from first battle. Of course it could all just be for the trailer.

Some speculate the character at the end is messing with time. Was that a another Elder God at the end with an hour glass?

Its weird the stage they're fightING on is from MK1.

Is Shao Kahn resurrected or from the past? Will he kill Kotal Kahn?

I'm hoping for shorter gory Fatalities that are more concise and not as drawn out with long setups or that are overly elaborate like Kenshi. Looking forward to more Brutalites.

I want to see better finishers from Raiden as well as BlackAdam-esque shocker grabs. The finisher I wanted them to make in MKX was to X-Ray Brutality and have the lightning bolt make the person explode in blood spray.

Or have the Raiden equivalent of Toasty except fry and cook them with lightning into a burned bloody skeleton.

Okay I'm wondering now how much I think of about violent death scenarios.

Sure it will be good but trailer was a bit meh. Especially the music.

I don't know why they keep going with that kind of song for their into trailers but I thought the trailer looked great. The animation was much better than their last cinematic trailer and it made the whole thing look more brutal.

There are some leaks talking about how we can customize our character and that it's not a gear system like injustice 2 but rather a refined fighting style thing like MKX. This time supposedly we have two choices instead of three but they'll be almost totally different from each other, supposedly one will be based on an old version of the character and one a more current version. That kind of goes along with the lady next to the hourglass at the end, the leak was from a month or so ago and they did also mention that Shao Kahn was going to be the pre-order bonus so they did get that right, they also said we'll have a lot of shader options.

I'm guessing Shao Kahn is strictly a bonus character and not part of the story but I could be wrong. I don't remember but I don't think Goro was party of MKX's story mode was he?

They should take note of what works or failed with THOR. Not that I necessarily want crude Ragnarok humor, but just visually with how THOR uses his kind of power and how the audience reacts to it; then on top of that allowing graphic deaths.

I like the Gear system visually, but it seems to be an annoying grind process to unlock it or even get what you want instead of redundant pieces which you then have to go to a menu to sell off.

If you played Injustice 2 one of Black Adams abilities gave him a long bolt of lightning as a projectile and it looked great so they could do something like that for Raiden and it would be so much better than the projectile he has had for so long, a thunder god throwing a glowing ball doesn't look that menacing lol. In the first couple of MK's his projectile was more like that and it looked so much better.

As far as the gear system it was fine but it just took too long to unlock things, I have had Injustice 2 on my PS4 Pro since it launched and there are still a ton of abilities and things I haven't unlocked and the game has been out for over a year and a half, if they continue with that they need to sort out how things are generated so you don't constantly get stuff that is worse than you already have let alone things like abilities being so rare. I'd much rather MK just stick with different skins that you can customize, to me that works better than trying to mix and match things that really don't go together well plus it keeps them from letting an artist get too crazy and ruining a characters gear like they did with Black Manta, I don't know what they were thinking but every mask other than his basic one looks ridiculous lol.

The logo reminds me a lot of the original Mortal Kombat 1 title and I think at the end at was an hour glass flowing upward in reverse.

I'm also really hoping that finisher on Scorpion is a sign of what we'll see in the game with maybe Combo-Based Brutalities.

Yeah that's probably one of his fatalities, that's how they did it in MKX's first cinematic trailer too. They had brutalities in MKX and they were great, I hope they bring those back but if they do they need to get rid of the distance requirements, it makes some of them too hard to pull off because you can't control where the opponent is.

Looks very meh almost identical to X.
I bet they are still using the dated Unreal 3 engine....yawn
I bet it ends up looking more like Injustice in the shaders and faces, and there aren't any better looking fighters that I can think of than that one.

Ugly character models is more fault of modelers, not engine. The overall graphics quality? yes it’s could be engine problem. Unreal 3 do not support physic base material and has simpler lightings. But of course they can run a modified UE3 engine like Arkham knight.

It's funny how you always point out a studio using their same engine as if it's a bad thing, they update their engines between releases and injustice 2 was using their highly customized version of UE3 and is probably the best looking fighter out there right now, this isn't bethesda. NRS is saying this has an all new graphics engine and many are saying that because it's also coming to switch that it likely means that they've moved on to UE4. I don't know if UE3 just doesn't work well on switch or what but so far we've only seen screens of two characters and two arenas and both look great IMO.

Dated Unreal 3 Engine is a bad thing.
It looks exactly like X as in not improved at all and the animation is TERRIBLE in X Injustice/2.. That keeps them from visually being the best looking fighters.
Killer Instinct and SFV offer better overall visuals partially due to far better animations.

KI has awful animations, everything looks stiff, they just go crazy with particles and that's about it, it's graphically very unimpressive (and yes I have it) it was made to run on a base xbox one at 720p and they focused on particles more than texture detail etc, yeah they've improved the resolution but it's still not a very impressive looking game at all. SFV Doesn't look anywhere near as impressive as Injustice 2 either, yeah they are totally different art styles so it's hard to compare but everything looks so much more simple in SFV. Injustice 2 has better textures, better models, more detailed arenas etc, you may like SFV animations better but it's nowhere near the same level of graphical fidelity of Injustice 2 or even MKX IMO. Also NRS has been updating UE3 every time it's not the stock engine, it's like saying DICE is using the outdated frostbite engine because they keep using it. I know you aren't a fan of the way the combos are done in NRS games but that seems to be clouding your judgement when it comes to how the games actually look.

I agree on most. KI has good animation, especially for the speed the game has. NetherRealms' animation has improved a lot, but still has some stiff key poses. They are smooth and imaginative, though, and always improving.

Outside of that, no other fighter can compete in lighting and rendering, and the value in story modes and characters is higher than any other franchise, imo.

I mean both the the head explode plus the severe beating combo. Mortal Kombat may be going back to it's roots or giving us a solid mix of new and old school MK.

The beat down makes me wonder if they're going to include a Brutality Combo launcher like the old MK3: Ultimate, except it will Brutality directly into a Fatality.

Now imagine for example Kung Lao's MKX Brutality punishing someone like this, but then instead of just a final hard punch, he slams his hat raser into their face. Or the Brutality optionally launches into the Buzz Saw Head split Fatality.

KI has virtually no transitional animations, everything looks really stiff and lacking to me. I agree with the rest of your post though :)

Oh ok so now you are going to bring the PC version of a game into this? LOL Even 4K isn't going to make that awful art style and those simplistic backgrounds look good. UE4 so far has been used for SFV, Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur 6 and none of them touch Injustice 2 or even MKX when it comes to the quality of the graphics. The faces in injustice 2 are nearly photo realistic at times, and the skin textures look great, nothing in those other games even comes close.

You can like what you want when it comes to art but it's laughable if you try to say NRS using UE3 is a bad thing when they have gotten much better results than the other companies have with UE4. NRS has been building upon their version of UE3 for years, they improve more with each release than any other fighting game maker I can think of. You are entitled to your opinion of course but I think you'd be hard pressed to find many to agree with you that games like KI and SFV look better than Injustice 2.

Yes I am going to bring up a higher resolution as Injustice 2 is higher resolution vs SFV....double in fact.
Awful style? LOL muted colors and jerky/TERRIBLE(comical looking) animations is my definition of awful.
Who cares if it looks more photo like if it moves like ass?
