Hours before the ceremony, NASA tweeted out a couple of its #RealGravity images from life in space, as a way of helping the public connect its real work with the fictional images portrayed in the Oscar-nominated film, Gravity.

The funny thing about Space stuff is that some of it is run on archaic systems. That Canadarm pic reminds me as I know a guy who worked at the company that makes it.

You'd think all this stuff would be run on the latest PCs, but in fact many things are run on the most basic OS and low powered gadgets. No Windows, no fancy schmancy cpus or gpus. The code has to be run on reliable tried and true components limiting crashes as much as possible.

I don't know if he was exaggerating or not, but he's tell me the Canadarm would be run on DOS-like OS with old cpus from the 90s.

The pic of Egypt at night is pretty amazing.

Yeah, the one of Barcelo is great, and so is the last one.

I downloaded one to use as an avatar but too lazy to switch it. My christmas themed one is due for a change.

Edit: found it again.
