FoxNext Games, the video game division of Fox that was formed in 2017, has acquired Bay Area game developer Cold Iron Studios, which will work on a new game based on the Alien franchise. The studio’s new Alien game will be a shooter for consoles and PC.

FoxNext called the acquisition representative of its “commitment to deliver new AAA offerings across numerous fan favorite properties and original games,” the company said in a press release.

Cold Iron Studios was founded in 2015 by former members of Cryptic Studios (Neverwinter, City of Heroes), including CEO Craig Zinkievich, chief technology officer Shannon Posniewski and creative director Matt Highison.

“Cold Iron Studios has amazing design, craftsmanship and development talent that we are excited to welcome at FoxNext Games as we pursue our goal to build a multi-platform, multi-genre portfolio of great games,” Aaron Loeb, president of studios at FoxNext Games said in a release. “I am a personal fan of Cold Iron’s previous work and all of us at FoxNext Games are thrilled to be working with them as they create an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved Alien universe.”

“We believe in FoxNext’s vision and we are thrilled about the opportunity to explore an amazing and rich universe,” Zinkievich said in a release. “Our background in building online worlds and taking established franchises to the next level in interactive entertainment is a precise fit with our product roadmap ahead; we can’t wait to share more information soon.”

Alien video games were previously the domain of publisher Sega, which released Aliens vs. Predator, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Alien: Isolation as part of a longterm publishing arrangement with 20th Century Fox.

FoxNext Games’ debut title will be Marvel Strike Force, a free-to-play role-playing game featuring the heroes and villains of the Marvel universe. Marvel Strike Forcewill be released on mobile devices in early 2018.

This poor abused franchise is about to be raped again.

Yeah it was. That’s the one expection I think.

Alien Isolation was fantastic! Really captured the overall feeling of dread and intensity from the first movie.

Make a battle royale game in the universe and then have Alien A.I that stalks too.

PUBG endgame with Alien attacks  You know you want it.

Forget Alien AI, make 1 player spawn in as the Alien. We're still a ways away from AI behavior that's more interesting than actual humans.

Yeah, but no.

What would be the point of adding Alien if it doesn't act like Alien? No point at all really. The whole point is to add a non-human predator to the mix.

A human would act significantly more like a predator than janky AI. No thank you.

Its a battle royale game, you already have plenty of human predators.

The point is to add something different, not another human in a halloween costume.

A human controlled Alien, with all Alien abilities and characteristics, would already feel immensely different than the other 98 player controlled characters. Only instead of people learning the crappy AIs tendancies (and exploiting them) two weeks into it, it'd feel fresh because humans play differently than one another.

Basically...your idea is bad and you should feel bad.

LOL.

Have you played Alien : Isolation? A human player would never play that way.

Humans play like Humans, end of.

Alien could have a Zombies/anti-Battleground mode. 100 players spread over a space station. All started as prisoners who broke from space jail with nothing. Find stuff, find each other and try to stay alive. Whoever gets killed turns into an alien. Goal is to see how long you can survive. Game goes until everyone is dead or you hit some targeted time.

Score is a combo of time survived, survivors saved and aliens killed. If turned into an alien, add in alien kills.

Sounds good.

Or perhaps an additional mode where the goal is to escape! Last long enough and a drop ship comes and you have to scramble to the ship. If all soldiers escape, the ship nukes the ground as it takes off. CPU AI controls the ship and mans guns to shoot aliens to give you breathing space as you make a run for a ladder/rope. Aliens can't destroy the ship as it's too high. Like a Titanfall mad dash epilogue.

That's the problem though. The butchering of great movies when made into games. It took how long to get a good Alien game? You can only assume that they'll go back to being trash.

I guess Batman is the exception. Still waiting on a good Superman game period!

I heard “the wolverine” game was really good, some say it was great, better than the first two movies. Also the Deadpool game got some high marks too, mostly for just being enjoyable and over the top self awareness.
