Deep Down

No way I like the "CAN'T SEE s***!" camera!

Combat looks pretty good once you watch someone with skill play. That one guy was parrying and dodging like it was nothing, though it would make sense he was since he's one of the combat designers, while most of the other footage has been PS4s broadcasting TGS attendance playthrough.

It may seem a bit backwards, but when a game can look like s*** with one person playing, and cool with another, that typically means the combat is decent.

Why is the camera so close in that video? It's looks like it'd be hard to get your bearings and see what is going on. I've played Skyrim in first person though, so I mean, I'm not going to judge yet...

Would love to see Dark Souls with that engine.

I've got a feeling this game is still a ways off. They are basically demoing what is essentially a playable tech demo. It's only one character with one creature type in one dungeon with one boss. I'm hesitantly optimistic though that it will turn into a decent game.

Did you not watch the video? There was definitely 4 players fighting the Dragon at once.

Right. So is it me, or does this game NOT look like the reveal trailer we saw at Sony's reveal? Looks good but not as good as it did before.

i'm pretty sure the trailer at the sony reveal with cgi.....I don't recall them ever saying it was gameplay or in-engine.

It's clearly the same engine, and looks pretty close. It's not surprising that the reveal looked better as even in game cutscenes tend to look better than game play.

The final footage looks awfully close to me, but oddly enough it's the player character that looks significantly lower quality. Everything else looks damn close. Certainly in line with the difference between say crisis 3 or gears of war game play and the absurdly pretty cutscenes in those games.

F2P I am less happy with, far less happy. My only hope is that the game is designed with other truly successful f2p games in mind. Games like team fortress, dota 2 and league of legends.

The Panta Rhei engine from capcom is looking good. We could see it used in other games in future too. Those fire effects while battling the dragon are spectacular.

F2p? Does that rule out any chance of single player mode?

There is no single player mode.. although the game can be played alone. I can't remember where I read it. They don't want to limit people who like to solo from enjoying the title, but I believe their goal is that while said person plays alone this will encourage them to want to group together.

Are you thinking about the way the narrative may be affected by being an 'online' title?

Off topic but similar I guess... can anyone tell me roughly how long a playthrough of Dragon's Dogma takes?

Feb reveal: Wicked trailer. Turns out they were canned despite pasting in a fake HUD. But still great.

A month ago: Low res, corny pig monsters. Not even close to the Feb reveal stuff. Unimpressive.

A week or two ago: New info saying it's online only and has an Assassin's Creed style story "future tech, but go back in time". Copy cat.

Recently: TGS had more images and gameplay videos. Nothing special. Meh.

Even more recently: F2P. Say hello to little content unless you pay for microtransactions. Ouch.

Sort of like that pile of s*** Killer Instinct right?

Well, I mostly just play single player, so I wanted to make sure it was not going to be something where I have to wait in a lobby and play with others just to get through the game.

Honestly, I was hoping it would be like Dragon's Dogma or Dark Souls. You know, online enabled, but single player focused. Hopefully, that is the case, but we'll see I guess.

I think it will be as you imagine. Well not single player focused but able to enjoy the dungeon crawling yourself.
