Official Thread Fable IV

I am all for the single player but again it's still a one ride price tag. They should still add some kind of coop mode to keep the game going.

Mark my words Single player without some online elements will be short lived.

Look on what is going on with the people from the makers of Quantum Break.

Curious, what are Horizon ZD sales numbers, has it gone platinum?
It's like 4.2 Million copy. The funny party it was all Europe that really carry that game but after the 5th week it dropped fast.

4.2 is really not that impressive base on the budget was put in. If anything it might of broke even.

The strange thing is that if they are going to make a sequel will it hit twice again? Doubt it.

That is how I feel about all Single player games. They can be great but feeling disconnected from live van turn off a lot of people.

Those who don't like playing online are a small number of players vs. Those who play online.

Reply value is key. Single player is a one time ride, maybe 2.

Oh, it will have some form of multiplayer, online Gaas component of some type -- guaranteed. The days of SP-only AAA-budget games are quickly coming to a close, and nowhere more definitively than at MS. I'll f*ck a chicken if this is an SP-only game.

3.4 million as of June 2017 (cited in article). Not sure what it's at now.

This has all the check marks Microsoft should/would want

1. Single player campaign which is an area they are a bit weak in
2. co-op which is obviously popular and is something Fable had
3. open world RPG which also are popular
4. you can still sell microtransactions/dlc

But more to your point if Microsoft can't have successful SP games than Microsoft is doing something wrong

What about Zelda BoTW, for both Switch and Wii U? I know at one time there were more Switch copies sold there there were Switch’s sold.
I think 4.72 million which I think it was more profitable because of the game budget on that hardware. Not as big spending wise.

Hopefully it's just like Fable has been. Single Player with Co-op. I know that Phil says he wants to get more single player games on the Xbox, and this could be one of those. No microtransactions, pay to win, etc. Just a damn good campaign experience. The Fable Legends was going to be a microtransaction Fable, and they nixed it.

All we need is great games, doesn’t matter if they’re new IP or not.

I hope they can pull of that “British humor”, maybe bring back John Cleese in a new role, hell bring in more Monty python cast members that haven’t gone salty.

Playground is a British studio, so that should help. I agree, the lighthearted, cheeky tone is key in maintaining what made Fable Fable. I could do without all the fart jokes, though.

The acting in Forza Horizon 3 is pretty cheesy. I hope it's not as bad as that.

Personally, this is the first MS game announcement (though it's not official) that's really interested me in the past few years. I really liked Fable and would love for a modern re-imagining of the series by a talented development studio like Playground. Sounds like it is very early in development, though, so we might not see a reveal at E3 (given MS's alleged reluctance to show games early), and we probably won't see the game until 2020 or so. Still, I'm pleased.

No worries. Writing on racing games is about as bare-bones as you can get. It's probably done by an intern on his lunch break. If they're shifting to a huge, open-world RPG, they'll hire a real writer.

Oh I’m aware of that, but can they capture the charm? Kinda feel it should’ve been given to Rare (kinda) or at least have them aid them a bit in that whimsy department.

I’m cautiously optimistic. Great dev, and it doesn’t have to be exactly the same. Hopefully they’ve listened to what people want, and we’ll see at least a trailer at E3.

I imagined Rare would get this job, too, but I like this choice better. I think Rare's version of Fable would probably feel a lot like a duplicated Fable, which is fine, but not terribly exciting. Playground has no experience with this genre, but in a way, that's good, because they'll bring a fresh take to it. They'll have a lot of enthusiasm, because (I assume) they're chomping at the bit to do something besides another racing game (how many have they done in a row now? 10? 12?). They want to stretch their creative muscles. At the same time, they know people will be looking at them, just like we are, wondering if they will be able to recapture what made Fable Fable. So they're going to have a lot of pressure on them. I think that combination of anxiety and enthusiasm will provide a lot of motivation and energy for the project.

Keep in mind, this is a RUMOR for now folks. Don't get your hopes up until MS announces.....and actually RELEASES. You know...Fablebound.

Obviously.

You can't expect the Xbox userbase to sit up and get excited when games a decade old like Fable 2 and 3 were fully co-op and Fable IV not be....and Fable was originally supposed to have multiplayer anyway.

Curious, what are Horizon ZD sales numbers, has it gone platinum?

3.4m after 3 months.

Fable and TLC were one of the few OG Xbox games to sell more than 2 million. 3 million according to my next link.
Fable 2 sold 3.5 million in 15 months and was the 2nd biggest first party game of 2008 behind Gears 2
Fable 3 sold 1.1 million in 33 days NPD (fable 2 was 790,000) and was the 3rd or 4th after Kinect Adventures, Halo Reach and Kinect Sports.

Fable IV is inevitable. Microsoft endeavoured to bring back Crackdown, Phantom Dust and Killer Instinct which accomplished much less. They aren't going to sit on henchman number 4.

Can't wait. Hope it's slightly darker than usual.

Yes, it does.

No, it doesn’t. A new IP does not mean sh*t if it sucks. No one should make a new IP just for the sake of a new IP. Focus on great games with great content and don’t force creativity if it isn’t coming naturally because just because an idea is new doesn’t make it a good one.

Count me down for wanting a simplified cartoony looking Fable. Spend those resources on the "If you knock an acorn down, a tree will literally grow there" vision, rather than high rez art assets and less than ambitious gameplay.
