Official Thread Fable IV

This will feature MP as well. Maybe they will finally deliver the 4 player project ego promised.

Get rid of the guns. Should never have been added to the fable series.

No, it doesn’t. A new IP does not mean sh*t if it sucks. No one should make a new IP just for the sake of a new IP. Focus on great games with great content and don’t force creativity if it isn’t coming naturally because just because an idea is new doesn’t make it a good one.

Yes, it does. The same old thing all the time is s***. You keep defending the s***ty state of first party games, fella. It is severly lacking and has been for nigh on a decade now.

Keep in mind, this is a RUMOR for now folks. Don't get your hopes up until MS announces.....and actually RELEASES. You know...Fablebound.

Technically accurate (MS hasn't confirmed), but there have been multiple rumors all pointing in the same direction, and now a "reveal" by a major news site. It's all but confirmed at this point.

I'll be curious how long before MS makes the official announcement. Given their stance about not announcing games until shortly before release, they are probably a little ticked that it was leaked. It would've made a nice bombshell for E3 after next.

I totally agree.

On the flip side, they shouldn't dig into their past stable just for the sake of it either.

Hopefully the direction of the new Fable is the reason why it was Green-lit

I remember when Fable Legends was announced and was in beta. All I heard is that gamers wished it was a true follow up, a Fable 4, not some online only MMO. They cancel Fable Legends, and now word is Fable 4 is coming....and people are like, I don't want Fable 4. Not saying that is what is being said here, but that is what some peeps are saying now on comments and forums.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

The first image looks as if it would be just another serious, mature RPG, with Fable trimmings -- Geralt comes to Bowerstone. I don't want that. I want Fable to retain its lightheartedness, whimsy, fairy tale atmosphere, and humor. Sure, sharpen and update the graphics, but don't lose what makes Fable unique.

Well that first Pic was just an attempt to mock the Fable art direction. Not officially what I would want.

As for humor, I found things in Witcher 3 more humorous than a goofy art style, farting and kicking chickens.

So a while back, Phil said there were 2 or 3 new properties he signed off on, but he didn't want to reveal them, because they were years away. Seems like one is Perfect Dark and another is the new Fable.

Fable's humor didn't have me rolling in the aisles, either. I'm not talking about just humor, though, but about the whole package -- the fairy tale art style, the lighthearted tone, the jokes, the sense of whimsy, the ease, the magical quality, etc. If we lose all that in some misguided attempt to be "mature," we've lost what makes Fable Fable.

While I don't care about kicking chickens or farting, Fable was loved and unique for the humor, the chicken kicking, the ease of combat, the farting and the art style and even your little partner. I am fine with them changing it, but it may not be "Fable" anymore other than using the franchise name then. I also don't want a me too game.....like the Fable version of Witcher 3. I want something about the IP to be unique. Something that makes it Fable. I loved Fable 1-3, and I would want Fable 4 to continue the tradition of the series, but improved and matured. I love the comedy in games like this. I love the humor of Barry in Alan Wake, or Nathan's sarcasm in UC, and the humor in Battlefield Bad Company.

That is my 2 cents at least.

I think most of the people who're complaining (which seems to be a minority) were people who never liked Fable in the first place.

The fans of Fable (the people who complained about MS's direction years ago) seem quite happy. I know I am.

I think they can make it asthetically whimsical without the generic art direction.

The first game wasn't bad. Also that Fable Kinect game had nice art.

Agree 100%.

Playground has a difficult challenge ahead. They have to re-create -- from scratch, with no assets -- a world that feels similar enough to the old Fable games to resonate with fans. And at the same time, they also have to put their own unique stamp on it, updating Fable and taking it to a new level -- yet without alienating those old fans. That's hard enough for a studio who has developed previous games in the series (i.e., Lionhead; or think of Crystal Dynamics reboot of Tomb Raider) -- but it's much more challenging for a studio that has never done a Fable game, or even an RPG.

Give everybody quirky British personalities and BOOM you got Fable.

For the multiplayer component: cart racing, with real carts, pulled by donkeys.

Well, I was hesitant about the idea. I mean, how can Playground games make a massive arcade racer that is 100% focus on cars and details of cars, inside and out. Then create an RPG of lore. The team is a combination of old racing development teams mixed. Then I remembered someone said that Playground Games was hiring a separate team to do this game. Maybe they were hiring people with this exact type of experience, giving Playground Games a larger palette going forward. Not having all their eggs in a racing basket.

If it's a great universe, and they are pushing boundaries, then it shouldn't matter, imo. That's the biggest issue, imo. Like getting a tactical military shooter or horror game set in the Halo Universe. There is a ton of potential there. I'm not sure if that is considered a new IP though.

I mean, Is Forza Horizon a different IP than Forza Motorsport? Could be, considering how different the core gameplay and play-style is. What's in a name and setting?

Think ms are used to it now. When was the last time something didnt get leaked?

I want to see a heavy emphasis on manipulating objects and having physically based properties. Much tomfoolery can be achieved in maximizing emergent situations. Just look how much fun it is to mess around with NPCs in GTA. Let me throw tomatoes at everything and have it react in a believeable way (like people getting angry, or running away), or better yet, throw watermelons from rooftops! I want a world I can PLAY in, and Fable would be perfect for that.

Sounds good...like a Zelda meets GTA.

Fable when you essentially boil it down is a superhero origin story where you earn respect points to level up with your crew, deck out your ride and fight steam powered clockwork robots with a talking ampromorphic dog.
