*Edit for bellow*

IGN France appears to have a bit of additional information about Nintendo Labo. According to the site’s report, “the kits will not be mandatory – although the cartridge is needed – since Nintendo plans to offer the cardboard design pattern for free for aspiring builders”.

Cartridge is still needed

*edit to add prices*

The Nintendo Labo “Variety Kit” will launch on 4/20 for $69.99.

The second kit, the “Robot Kit,” will launch the same day for $79.99.

I thought those goofy cardboard box things to use cell phones as VR glasses was stupid...this is beyond awful.

I'll be interested to see how this pans out.

Maybe that's next, cardboard VR?

I'm still on the fence about getting a Switch, and seeing stuff like this is swaying me to avoid the system altogether if this is their idea of being innovative. I could understand it if the cardboard was replaced with actual plastic things (like the PS3 Sharpshooter) to mount the controllers/screen in. I remember they had weird things like steering wheels to mount the Wiimote in back in the day, but cardboard... o_O

It's totally not for me. But I think the idea is awesome for kids.

Looks fun for kids which is what they are aiming for here. If my daughter wants it I’ll buy it for her.

What kind of crack is Nintendo smoking with these prices? For us Americans, that's between 80 and 105 dollars................for......................CARD BOARD.

This stuff should be no more than $15-$20 for what it is.

Yeah the game should be at most 30 dollars, USD.

The designs for the cardboard will be released online for free download/print/stencil.

Unlike the switch announcement this saw their shares shoot up

Looks like Wii plastic gimmicks, but instead it's even cheaper..... cardboard you put together yourself.

Can't wait to see the prices of this stuff. Foldable pieces of cardboard for probably $49.99.

Switch has insane controller prices, requires gamers to buy spare SD cards for storage and yet it's successful.

Nintendo has nothing to lose this. The product costs are hardly anything. Given it's cardboard, I bet the outer packaging and shipping costs, cost more than the cardboard cut outs.

They have very profitable items here. So even if it doesn't sell great, it will still be a financial boon.

To give you an idea, pizza boxes bought at wholesale quantities costs no more than 50 cents per box.

Just when you thought the digital revolution would save the trees...

60-80 dollars for cardboard. Nintendo are genius'
